Since you asked for recommendations; if this is for the enjoyment of collecting tacticool stuff, LARP on. However, if this is for an emergency, you need to customize and simplify. Priority should be family fitness and general physical self defense. For your kit; water, storage and quick purification methods like tablets. I’d dump 90% of that stuff, too heavy. Lastly, don’t make yourself look like militia with good stuff to steal on a hike. In a SHTF situation, conceal carry will be even more important. Read about Hurricane Katrina as a possible realistic scenario. Don’t build for a video game, they (characters) would be down from dehydration fast. I was always finding things to ditch from my kit in Afghanistan to carry more water. Have a great day!

Try storm matches and a Zippo lighter. This is personal preference on the zippo cause you gotta get the fuel but the zippos have been known to light off anything (including kerosene) and wind is not that much of a factor with those or storm matches ( recommend those instead of the small matches) they may be bulkier and you can't carry that many, but you will always be able to have fire with those storm matches.

Be very careful of the ASP Baton. While in LE usage they are considered “Less Lethal”because of policies prohibiting their usage in lethal ways, restricting the usage to strikes on areas not likely to cause permanent damage (abdomen, thigh nerve cluster, etc). In the hands of UNTRAINED civilians - they are typically considered LETHAL Weapons as civilians are not trained nor depart mentally bound to adhere to strict policies on only striking non-lethal body parts. IF an officer saw you raising that on someone - particularly someone unarmed - YOU WILL BE SHOT. Just want you to know that - so you’re not surprised if it ever happens.

Two things: First, it's a sad commentary on American civic life that you and a whole lot of others are running around out there, armed to the teeth, waiting for society to collapse into some lawless dystopian chaos that echoes the video games you've been playing since you were 12. Do you think that the way to survive is to kill everyone else, so you can have it all? Our long-term survival depends on community and cooperation. And BTW, you mentioned Manhattan...bring that rig into Manhattan and see what happens! You may be the baddest MFer on the street...until you're not. Someone will eat you for breakfast! Second, in terms of a get-home bag, if you reckon it might take you three days, get some real rations. That lifeboat crap, tuna and granola bars ain't enough for the stressors you seem to be anticipating. Check out Gear Skeptic's videos for a seriously in-depth analysis of calories versus weight, and overall nutrition profiles of 900+ trail food options. I carry ProBar, GreenBelly, pemmican and Hammer electrolyte tabs, for a total of 6000 kcal at just over 2 pounds (I calculate my average get-home time at 2 days). No prep, no cooking. Light and fast. Good luck TMP2! Keep on the sunny side of the street, and keep on keepin' on!

The mask is useless for the majority of gas issues w/out an integrated full face shield. Do you have training w/ the ARS needle and the nasal airways? How much of this stuff could you realistically need? You say you are not a cosplay guy but what are you actually preparing for? I'd say you would probably get less than a mile with that bag before you crapped out for the day.

@@PreparedSnipe In any of those cases I'd prefer to be a complete gray man. My first choice is to bug in or if our and about get home as quietly as possible. The best way to win any fight is to avoid it completely. Bugging in is the preferred method unless you live in an area which becomes or is untenable. If you area will be that way then the time to change that is long before SHTF. I have a pretty strong area w/ like minded neighbors and others who will bug out to our location as well. I'd think a more realistic approach would be far more gray and not involve a long gun. Between people looking to do harm and the various agencies who will be trying to maintain some sort of order you will be an immediate target with a long gun and a visible weapon is not the best choice either. Just my opinion from 20 years military time and lots of time on the streets in various capacities. I have an EDC bag which is just that, every day carry. OTC meds, 3 days of my prescription meds, a few tools, basic don't die trauma supplies, and other things I use during a normal day. Plus if I am going into a less than ideal area the ability to conceal a couple extra handgun mags. If I feel a long gun may end up being needed it and my plates for into the trunk.

Bug in is my first priority, given that I have a family to look after. And community is a strong aspect of that. Sadly, my community is not onboard with it unless they get paid for it. And 9 times out of 10, my family and I if we need to bug out will be in a vehicle to get to areas where we will be with like minded people. Back in 2018, we bugged out of our area to up north out of the way of a hurricane. Returned 3 days later. If you look through my channel, you will find my edc bag, it is very much "grey man" concept. You might enjoy it. This go bag is just a bit of the iceberg that is the rest of my system

And as always, every system devolves into a man portable system. I am not depending entirely on my car to get me from point a to point b. With a 1 month old and a 2 year old, we are probably lucky that I opted for a stroller to carry the kids and a good bit of gear under a poncho nondescriptly. My bag, rifle, PC, chest rig and my wife's rifle with a shotgun fit nicely in the stroller.
