Great video. There is a product that you hook a hose to and put it on the edge of your swimming pool and it has a float on it so it works like a toilet tank. Fills the pool automatically when the water level drops. That could probably work on that big tub.

Honestly you could probably do a very similar build for way less. I could be wrong but I think house of hydro is gouging these prices, I’ve seen ultrasonic misters go for way less. I’m going to start filling a tub with cheap ones to test it out just because it would be a fun experiment.

This is totally awesome. My grow tent is 4’x4’x6’8”. I have mine stay around 65%-90% without a humidifier. I cycle it the lights and fans on for 12 and it off for 12. Maybe because it’s so much smaller I don’t have a need. But if I ever do. I will definitely go with this.

Great video! I've seen some people put a "smart" hygrometer that connects to your phone. Maybe you can utilize that to control the operation of the humidifier. Then you'll have an option to change the humidity as you wish, shut off the system, all done remotely.

Was hoping to watch a new video that took a look at the expense running this DIY humidifier vs your other humidifiers. I have 2 humidifiers, both are wicking/evaporative. I have no idea what they run for wattage. I suppose I could take a look. But I think that looking at those numbers will not provide an accurate account for cost. For instance, my tower humidifier runs dang near ALL the time. My larger MoitsAir runs every 5-10 minutes. If this DIY humidifier pumps more humidity in a shorter window at a relative wattage then I could see it being more efficient overall. Loved the video, hope to see a follow up comparison video!

if the volume of the tank is the main issue, then I would install a mini-float valve to an existing humidifier and hook it up with a water source (27 gal tub). Definitely less than $50. Anyways, I enjoyed your video. Good luck with everything!

Glad your happy. However I’m not a seller, nor do I have a grow tent. So my current humidifier is working quite well for my plant and orchid collection. I’m wondering how much electricity this setup uses though. Is is environmentally sensitive?

Glad yours is working well! So is the one in my plant room. It’s definitely a different environment when you need to provide ventilation or the plants don’t have oxygen. I am a certified nursery but I don’t choose to get a location and unnecessarily waste by building and instead use my means (basement). The tsw2000 light was built with a very efficient grid and the tent reflect light, which makes it optimal for growing conditions. The diy humidifier is plugged into a smart powerstrip. Also, the energy usage is less then what it would be if I had of multiple smaller humidifiers that use a lot of energy. But overall my energy usage pales in comparison to some nurseries or simply people that just don’t care. In an update video I will mention the actual energy usage.

Do you just use normal tap water? I've been filtering water and using it for my multiple humidifiers and its getting tedious now. I am wondering if it is even worth it. I kept reading everywhere to use filtered to prevent pathogens from growing and mineral buildup, but it seems I have to do the same amount of cleaning and I get occasional algae and other gunk in the humidifiers from time to time.

For this humidifier I use normal tap water. They actually recommend it because the solids in the water are needed so that the mist maker performs good. Too clean water can actually wear out your mist maker faster. For my smaller humidifiers I don't use filtered water either. Honestly it is just too much of a hastle. 😓

If your ppms/tds is high, then for typical ultrasonic you must use distilled. The minerals will cause white dust which costs your plants leaves and takes light absorbtion away, it clogs your filters (especially our Carbon Filters) and is bad to breathe in. Distilled water completely fixes that. If the company website recommends tap, use tap no question. However, 99% of ultrasonic humidifiers say to use distilled NOT tap. I even bought a home distiller just for that purpose. Everything of mine became covered in white dust so it was required in my case. Used to be in NJ and water was 300+ on tds meter. White dust was atrocious. I have 110ppm water here in VA and while it took a few days, it did happen here too when I used some tap water vs distilled...My AC infinity carbon filters cloth pre-filter went from black to grey because of all the white dust hahah was a quick rinse to fix but I'm sure some got inside filter too unfortunately
