about the tightening of the knob on 9:34, pull it outwards, set it back to a position that it's free to move, and push it back in. Now you can tighten it. It's a common way these knobs are made, in dji and other brands too. I felt like fool when I figured it out :)

I own a RS4. What you said is right, that knob can be pulled to adjust leverage position, but when the knob is in loose position, it move/rotate with the screw when you pull it back. There is not enough friction in the screw thread to make it stay

I think rs4 is not the upgrade of rs2. DJI rs4 pro is the upgrade of rs2. They had terrible naming going on back then and they have fixed it with the launch of rs3 series.

As a first time newbie gimbal user with a Sony A7c ii using a 24-70 mm lens, the RS4 is awesome for what I need and I have no regrets at all. Most people here appear to have more experience with gimbals so I’m guessing will be more critical. Maybe I’ll become like that one day but by then I’m sure I’ll be ready to upgrade because it’ll be a few years away yet!

yes, vertical mounting was made for very simple setups. Just a camera and a lens. No cages, no extra base plates, no motors. Of course it's not marketed like that... anyways. I have the rs3 pro, and the only upgrade I find useful is the new lidar focus pro system, that is fully backwards compatible with rs3 pro and I can use it independently too. Rs4 and rs4 pro are really like 3.5. Minor upgrades compared to rs3 pro. But the focus pro is impressive.

@@BryceKoebel What doesn't make sense? When they released rs3 they split into two options, one for less professionals with less weight. If you want to compare, you compare the higher end RS4 pro with the RS2 because they are in the same weight class. 10 pound vs 10 pounds you are comparing two different models.

I upgraded from the RSC2 - where I mounted my A7S3 by adding the plate to the side of the camera and it balanced fairly well! Then I got the RS4, and it didn't work with the cage.... So I returned the RS4 and downgraded it to the RS3, with the $60 attachment for portrait mode - as for me I don't need to switch between horizontal and portrait whilst on a shoot, and if I do, I've just invested in the Falcam ecosystem, which allows me to pop off the camera straight of the gimbal, and add a handle on within seconds, to then go horizontal if I really need it. Great video and I think more people need to watch this! I searched so long for a solution before returning the RS4, and I only saw this pop up on my KZbin page today!

Hi - I also use the Falcam F38 clips, If I buy the RS3 what would I need to buy to use on the vertical plate. I shoot 90% vertical now, so I wouldn't be changing back and forth that often. Could you leave any links to what I would need top order, that would be a big help - thanks.

@@markshirley01 Hey Mark, so what I ended up buying was 1) the official vertical mount from DJI Roughly £45 here in UK. 2) Ulanzi Falcam F38 Quick Release System. So this goes straight into the vertical piece, and then the camera goes straight into the 2) mount. Literally saves about 1-2cm's of space, as that was causing the RS4 to tip over to the edge. Hopefully that makes sense. But both those pieces, literally means that my camera with cage + 28-75mm zoom lens with an ND balance effortless!

@@ridhish.devani so you bought a RS3 then bought the DJI vertical plate which you added a Falcam F38 plate to. Is that correct. Only thing is looking online the RS3 with the vertical plate costs the same as the RS4. Seems crazy to buy the RS3 at the same price

@@markshirley01 So if you were to buy the RS4, you'd still need to buy the vertical plate, so its infact more of an investment, the F38 mounting plate, was for me an extra, I don't think it's necessary for it to work, but it sure does make it easier to use + a lot lighter as you don't have to add another mounting point to the cage.

The F38 plate is actually really nice because the quick release is a lot easier than the stock one that comes with the RS4. So it’s totally worth the investment in my opinion.

I have the same problem, arm extended all the way but still falling over toward the left. What I would do in this situation is to keep your original rs4 plate, buy some cheap 20g weight and attached it the right side of the ronin arm. This way, it can counter balance the rig.

DJI rebranded their gimbal lineup after the RS2. The reason being the RSC and RSC2 stood for compact, however they still could support a decent setup. They then released the RS3 which was now their "not as professional solution." Hence the name, RS3 Pro. Knowing all the gimbal models and their direct upgrades should help. RSC2 -> RS3 -> RS4 and RS2 -> RS3 Pro -> RS4 Pro. If you enjoyed the RS2 so much, it sounds like you're going to need an RS4 Pro or else you aren't upgrading. I have the RS3 Pro and its amazing, but I do shoot on larger cinema cameras so I didn't have much of a choice.

Obviously they aren't going to make the cheaper, non-pro product better than their pro line. That's like buying an iPhone 15 after having an iPhone 14 Pro Max and expecting it to be better just because of the higher number.

I just got my focus motor mounted today and was lazy and left it on vertical with 0 problems. No cage, straight camera to mounts provided. But I have had 0 issues so far. The only thing I had to rethink was the cable management as I am using an a7Rii and the raveneye. Also the lock knobs can be lifted and turned for further adjustments, also something I had to comp for with the cables getting in the way

Just wondering , isn't your cage arca Swiss and why do you need their plate to put it on the gimbal? I have an RSC2 and want to upgrade to either an RS3 o RS4 and was hoping it was the same and I can just attach my camera with cage to the gimbal? Did they change that now? Thanks Why are you using the Plate if you have a cage with. Arca Swiss? That might help you with you vertical problem you mention later on.

So, it does work but not how you think. The way the cage plate goes on is from the left to the right, and this doesn’t work because the tilt axis bar is in the way. Just the way the RS4 is designed because it works on my RS2 just fine. There’s also the plate with the focus motor that you have to attach. So in terms of quick release, it’s not as quick as I thought. There’s a lot of weird work around

@@BryceKoebel Yes Sorry I saw you did it right after I wrote my comment. That is why I bought the Tilta V2 cage vc you can make it a half cage as well..

@@BryceKoebel yes and that is stupid the focus motor goes on the left side only. My RSC2 it goes in Front attached to the plate which is way batter if you ask me. They should offer alternative places to attach it bc on the left is stupid as it make it harder to balance , not to mention the wires have to cross the camera and lens to connect

I splurged and got the RS4 pro for my mirrorless and no issues. However, I’m going to return it since I still have the RS3 pro with the V plate and it works just fine

bro! i just bought this today and I am a fx3 with cage user and have also been using the Rs2 pro since its release...and I am probably sending this thing back tomorrow because of all of the same things you're saying...there is one other thing which is a major problem which you didn't mention...which is actually what led me to your video because I'm trying to find a solution. On the RS2 Pro if you have the original focus motors that it came with...i used to use those for zoom and a feature it has is SMOOTHING on the focus motor in the gimbal menu! Why in the world do they not have this one the RS4! The zoom now is terrible! Anyway...glad I'm not the only one thinning this gimbal is a bit of a downgrade or at least not much of an upgrade from the RS2 Pro.

I wish there were more competition in this space. It's always seemed to me that DJI doesn't listen to feedback from users and there are always little (but painful) shortcomings in their products. They're good at innovating, but even with innovation, they could really listen more to their customers. I've had a cobbled together RS2 Pro rig since it launched and I won't upgrade until they pay attention to what's actually needed for good simple robust workflows.

Yes, that's the whole issue though because it's a hassle to have to take the cage off. But it works great without the cage

Yep the 2 messed up the lineup because it had the rsc version. The pro is the one you want. The non pro version is pretty good though. Great for keeping the setup light but it's not very good for vertical setups

Im not sure about the rs4, i have the rs3 pro and for the thumb screw issue. I think most should have a ratcheting system. If and when it gets stuck, pull the thumb tab and twist the opposite direction, push back in to re-engage, and continue to do so until it is tightened. Insights were super useful and great video. I did have a question about your lens and focus moter. Whenever i zoom in, the lens extends obviously, but that throws off the balance, making me have to re balance every time i change the Zoom. Was wondering if uv experienced this issue or have any work arounds. Lastly, the "NEEWER RS3 Vertical Camera Mount Compatible with DJI Ronin RS3 Pro RS 3 RS 2 Gimbal Stabilizer, 1s Quick Vertical to Horizontal Switch Anti Drop 180° Rotating Base." Hey man how's it going. I'm an Rs2 pro owner as well. Yes unfortunately the Rs4 basic is not an upgrade to the Rs2 pro. The upgrade is the Rs4 Pro unfortunately which as you stated you don't need because of your workflow so at that point I would say get the Rs3 pro used and you would be better off. I really loved your insight on your challenges and such. Personally I've owned the regular Ronin, the Ronin SC and now I'm on the Rs2 pro and I don't see I need to upgrade and I should 4 20% music videos, 40% interview and story telling content and the rest sports and a mixture of everything else. As stated I definitely think the Rs3 pro is your best upgrade path. I hope you find what works best for you. Can't wait to see that video.

Get the RS4 - this guy doesn't know what he's talking about cause a lot of the ways that it's used now is different (in a good way) - for example, with turning the screw knob and having it hit the camera, all you have to do is pull it out and re-adjust it like many gear parts do now a days. When it comes to vertical mode, he's doing it wrong. Just look it up on DJI RS4 on KZbin and you'll see the tutorial - I use almost the same set up and I love it

Coming from de ronin sc the RS4 feels like an absolute downgrade. I hate it and I’m thinking about returning the thing. I bought it cause I thought you could control the PZ lenses with the dial but you can’t. The handle is made for people with mini hands. I hate the fact you have to switch between PTF PF and FPV instead of just pressing m to go to your custom modes. This thing is a joke and a pain to shoot with.
