Love you videos. I have a 420X and a 380X. We use them on flat water and up to Class III whitewater. My last trip was fishing with the Bixpy motor in northern Minnesota. Wow was that great with the motor. The next trip paddling the lagoons in Palmetto Dunes followed by the first whitewater trip of the season on the Nantahala in North Carolina. BTW, I recommend the thigh straps for whitewater stability and control. Best…JW (be an outsider)

He does not mention that Bixby option costs more than the boat and be aware when coming back to shore cuz it will scrape the shore. Electric motor mount would let you lean the prop out. And the battery can be used at camp with inverter. Bixby battery is exclusively for the motor. Would love to see video of all options! Sail! Side motor with mount for maybe someday a small bimini top! Show us how the sail can be used. Would be wonderful as toy for AirBnB I love my Explorer 380X Thank you for this video.

Hi 👋 there! Thank you for watching and commenting! You bring up some great points, here’s my two cents. When coming up to shore with the skeg attached, I tend to keep the stern away from shore so as not to scrape its on the bottom. For me, it is the same with the Bixpy, I make sure it will not drag either. I guess this habit comes from my big boats, where I never want to rub my prop on the bottom. I much prefer the Bixpy to a side mounted trolling motor, because it still affords me the ability to paddle like I would normally paddle without any motor. I make the analogy that the Bixpy turns the kayak into an e-kayak, where just like an e-bike - the experience is the same as paddling or peddling without any motor at all. Normal paddling is not possible (or as easy and realistic) with the side mounted trolling motor. I don’t like the sail option, because it is only a downwind sail. I used to race Optimist Pram sail boats as a kid, for me sailing is when you can can not only sail downwind, but also tack into the wind. If it could do that with minimal accessories, I would be all over it. Any setups that I have seen that allow tacking into the wind have so many accessories you have to add to and clutter up the kayak, that it doesn’t look like fun. I just wanted to focus on the myriad of uses that I have found with the Explorer,as I have found it a do everything boat with regards to the things that I like to do. You can also row the explorer with oars, which looks cool. I think I would like to try that out sometime . . . . Take care and safe adventuring out there! Hi 👋 Thanks for the comments! I could have pulled on the straps to pull the seat forward a little bit, but refrained due to my camera mount attached to the floor in the bow of the boat. But, yes, you can adjust the seat a little forward from where I had my Dads seats mounted. Easily done by just adjusting the length of the 4 straps that hold each seat in place. Take care!

I think this might be the best shore diving spearfishing kayak, looks easy to get in and out of in the water and easy to tow with a float line, also more visible then your standard dive float.

I've always thought this model and several other sea eagle models would be great for diving out of. Maybe I'll get a chance to them down to the keys and do some diving out of.

Yes, that would be cool, Thats my favorite thing to do with the kayak, finding cool inlets, anchoring, hoping out and freediving an area, if there’s current I’ll use a 30m float line and dive with the current, also you should practice getting back in with fins still on. I find in easier. There is a technique to it though.

@Michael-nf2go with flippers on, it should not be difficult at all to get back into the Explorer. The way to do it is to have all of the drain plugs out in the bottom of the boat, so it self bails the water that comes into it each time you get in the boat. Sounds like a great plan! Great video Cliff. The "do everything" kayak really depends on what you want to do with it. The Sea Eagle Explorer I guess you could say does everything except take a powerful motor such as a decent gas motor like a 3HP or above, or electric equivalent such as the Torqeedo Travel or ePropultion. Taking a powerful motor is very important to me as I love kayak paddling, but also love that there are many great places to go on the ocean and rivers around here with strong currents winds that a trolling motor or Bixpy are unsuitable as I had a trolling motor originally and upgraded to the Torqeedo because I didn't want the restrictions where I could go around here and miss out on spectacular destinations..... make it back. Sea Eagle's Paddleski 435 (dubbed the most versatile kayak in the world) could take a motor like that, and paddled comparable to the Explorer. However, the Explorer offers excellent white water ability, and the 435ps wasn't really designed for it. So there's a trade off there, but the 435ps is no longer produced but as you know I love mine. I beat my two friends paddling alone in a race of my 435ps vs their Explorer 380x, but they are pretty comparable in effort to paddle and I was a more experienced paddler. I also sail my 435ps, but the Explorer can do that nearly as well but the 435ps is just a little less tipsy without stabilizers because of it's pontoons. Also, if kayak paddling like many people assume means easy effort paddling of long distances as most hard shell kayaks can do, Sea Eagle's Razorlite would be way better to have and you & I have that too. It's much easier to paddle. Not only important for long distance paddling, but with my new wrist issues the Razorlite is ideal for people that don't want to work as hard paddling even short distances. You barely paddle and it moves. So it comes down to, do you want to use it on white water, with a powerful motor and yet half decent paddling but not for countless miles that will allow you to go places you probably wouldn't make it back with just a trolling motor, paddle for long distances without being totally wiped out or optimal sailing. Ideally, I'd have 3 Sea Eagles for these various tasks. Maybe at some point they will come out with a new model that....does everything. I'd love that and could thin out the herd. I envision a design that could do it all in a single boat, but it doesn't exist. As I have 7 Sea Eagles, I'd like to eventually add an Explorer for the sole purpose of white water. It would be used the least for me though. The 435ps or Razorlite would normally be my first choice for other kinds of kayaking and "do the most things" when not in white water though, and my 437ps when I want to put a 5HP motor on it without doing much paddling. As the 435ps is unavailable now, the Explorer is probably their best choice for more stable less tipsy paddling as the Razorite isn't really for beginners or rougher conditions.

Hey Nate, great hearing from you! I get what you are saying. If I moved up to a model like the paddleski that takes a larger motor, I wouldn’t be in a kayak anymore. The current 437 paddleski is more of a boat, that paddles also, but not in the realm of being a kayak. I understand you like the older discontinued 435 paddleski and I agree with you, that with it’s narrower width it could possibly still be classified as a kayak like boat, that has the capacity for a larger engine. Based on Sea Eagle’s current product line-up I think the Explorer is definitely the best do everything kayak as long as you are wanting a true kayak. I guess I could consider a true kayak as a paddling boat that has the bow and stern tapered, not squared off, with a transom that really kicks up up into another type of boat category. The older PaddleSki crosses over a little, but still is more of a boat that paddles ok too. We are kind of at the extremes with both of these boats. One is still more of a kayak, while the other is more of a boat.

@@KayakCliff Pretty much exactly what I'm saying, and I hope Sea Eagle address it in a new model at some point. I bought an SE330 first after trying a friend's hard shell, and discovered I enjoyed kayak. After I got the SE330, I discovered I really loved kayaking and couldn't get enough of it. The 435ps was appealing because.....it was a kayak, not a boat, but could take a real motor and a real sail rig, yet small enough to fit in my car's trunk. The 435ps was classified as a kayak, and paddles comparable to the Explorer. It was targeting the kayaking market (me) and I felt this boat was the best boat in the world. I could take it anywhere (and have), and yet experience locations that normally needed a real motor boat where kayaks could not so easily go, either due to lack of power or the water's too rough. The 435ps targeted kayakers as it's primary market. Like the Explorer, it's paddling ability isn't comparable to a hard shell or the Razorlite, but it still paddles as a kayak pretty reasonable as long as it's not overly windy (same with Explorer). The 437ps targets the fishing market. It's not classified as a kayak. It makes a slightly better boat than the 435ps because it's a tad bigger, can handle twice as fast of a motor, etc. But it's much worse as a kayak so they don't call it one. One a windy day I wouldn't be able to paddle back, especially if I'm paddling both myself and my wife. And if the motor broke down, I'd be concerned. On the 435ps, at most places, I think I could still paddle back if the motor died. Both great Paddleski's for what they are, I just feel since Sea Eagle is primarily known for their inflatable kayaks, they should once again offer a comparable kayak to the 435ps, ideally with some improvements. And there real problem.....there isn't anything else on the market like the 435ps. When both of mine eventually wear out, I can't replace it with a boat that is comparable, and I'm worried about it. If only more people knew how incredible it is having a single boat that actually make a pretty good kayak for casual use, but also offers much of the motor boat experience which a trolling motor doesn't. I can go out on the bays with the large ships and have many times where the kayaks don't dare go, and also go out on a lake and paddle it a few miles without killing myself like I would on the 437ps. I've also taken the 435ps on planes, and taken it on trips more than 1500 miles away. I can't share my enthusiasm for the 435ps enough, and I'm devastated it's gone. It's been everything I hoped and then some. It's the single most valuable thing I own to me, other than maybe my house. Brings me a ton of joy, and I wish others could experience the same.

I always avoid them when in my fiberglass boats, I just watch tides and don’t venture where I think I will have a problem. For me it is the same with my Sea Eagle kayaks, just keep an eye on the tides and make sure you are not there when there is a possibility of scraping them. Stay safe out there and have a great week! Hi there, great question, thanks for asking! What I do, when I am paddling with the skeg. Is I bring the bow into the beach and leave the stern out away from the beach in slightly deeper water, then get out. The good thing, if over, repeated use, if the skeg gets damaged, they're only like 25 bucks to buy new ones. Hope this helps, have a great weekend! Hi Brad, that is Grapevine Lake, which is near my house in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. It is often my go to when I'm filming a review video. That's great, enjoy your first voyage on the paddle ski. I usually launch at boat ramps, however, many times I have just launched from a grassy or dirt shoreline when it suited my purpose. The beauty with the paddle ski, is that you don't really need a boat ramp all the time. That is, if you can find suitable shoreline. Case in point, because of drought or flooding, sometimes boat ramps are closed. Not with a kayak or the paddle ski. Just launch wherever it suits your purpose. @@KayakCliff I agree about launching from shore and the lakes around the Dallas area make it easy, I grew up in Dallas. In Austin lots of big rocks along the shorelines of all the lakes so it is hard to find a suitable place on the shoreline to launch. Do you belong to the paddle group Dallas Downriver, my brother Sam used to be president of it for a couple of years a while back? Oh my favorite lake, lake Travis is about 35ft low and every boat ramp is close and is the worse shoreline for launching because of the rocks.
@KayakCliff

@BTSloan70 k oh wow, I never considered that there was not any good shoreline launch points in the Austin area. What about if you put your boat on a cart and roll it down by hand past the barricades and to the empty boat ramps? I do that a lot up here in Dallas when ramps are closed due to high or low water. I always like the fact that there's a way to get on the water, when everybody else can't. That is, people with normal boats on trailers. Thumbs up! Now please update your Fasttrack review. It was a very difficult choice for me between the 420x Explorer and 465ft Fasttrack. I went with the Fasttrack because I wanted to maximize available room for three people. Its really a special inflatable boat that can hold three people and fold up compactly. We think we can get just a little more umph out of the Fasttrack with Bixpy than the Explorer but that it likely makes little difference in practice. And we're also planning to toss the Fasttrack into situations that MIGHT have a rapid or two without worrying too much about it, granting the Explorer would be, possibly, the better option for that. So, again, please update your Fasttrack review and thoughts about where that boat stands in relation to the others. Please Please please run the same speed tests you did with the Explorer, with and without the Bixpy. Thank you for your view on the available footrests. I was thinking about adding them to my Fasttrack. I might do that for the middle position for when I'm using the longer boat solo. Also because the 465ft is the boat I have, I make up for the larger size real nicely with the Bixpy, sitting in the optimal for steering with the paddle central position using the Bixpy remote. That allows me to not have to be near the stern and a tiller that'll make sure my big butt raises the bow in the air if I'm solo. Points for the Bixpy. Thanks again.
@KayakCliff

Hey 👋 there Chris! Thanks for watching and the suggestions! Yes, I will add to my list my views on the differences between the FastTrack and the Explorer, that. The FastTrack is definitely a boat that will track a little better, while paddling faster. For me, if I’m doing any whitewater, or rivers, I’m usually scraping the bottom at some point due to rocky, low water areas. It is in these conditions, that I would rather be in the Explorer, because with out the skeg, the Explorer is easier to paddle than the FastTrack without a skeg. Glad you liked the speed tests - I’ll include these more! Take care!
