Heading up to Northern Walleye Lodge in Missanabie, ON end of August thru Beginning of September. I haven't been to Canada in decades. Going mainly for walleye, but do want to try some lake trout fishing. Do you have a video where you go over your setup(s) that you use (rod and reel, line, etc...) and your favorite baits? Also, do you ever catch, clean and cook your lake trout? Thanks!

Mac, love the content! You have any tips for late July/August cruisers that don't seem to be interested in anything at all. I'm in Ontario and I see tons of slow cruisers coming down from higher in the column headed to the bottom or just fish on the bottom that won't take interest in anything I drop to them. Tubes, swimbaits, spoons, rattle baits, blade baits, hair jigs, spin tails, you name it. Just trying to figure out how to catch these guys lol Or is it just a matter of them not feeding when I happen to be fishing??! Thanks and keep the good content coming!

Try floating a swim bait maybe 20 ft above the fish. Don't jig it or anything. Gives the look of a natural bait fish just sitting in the water column. When the laker comes up to see it, start reeling. You have to time it so you start reeling just as it gets close enough but not so close he sees that it is not a real bait fish. And when you start reeling you have to reel pretty fast. I have caught many lake trout this way in the summer in pressured lakes where the trout have seen many lures. The jigging up and down or putting the bait in front of their faces does not work because that is not what a real bait fish will do and they get too good of a look at your lure and it spooks them.

I like using walleye assassin plastics when jigging for lakers.... I've had really good luck with them this year.

Can't find any lake trout fishing guides that don't use sonar. So weird how people can't catch fish without a fish finder.

My buddies know a place quite a ways off the shore of lake huron that they use GPS to get to and what depth we are fishing at. They do have a fish finder but it doesn't often mark fish so it's more of a guessing game. We caught one of the biggest fish so far for a derby going on atm. The fish finder did nothing in finding the fish for us, in fact we don't bother looking at it, we more focus on our depth!

Yeah. So weird that people use technology to their advantage. Shocking that they don't just drive around aimlessly, wasting their own and their customer's time.

Solid video man. Thanks for the tips. Did have a question. My live scope isn’t the clearest like yours. Should I run a dedicated battery to my livescope. I feel like after messing with all my settings I have to run super high gain to see myself down there.

Best bet would be to use topography maps and fish structure, inclines, flats, it takes a long time and a lot of effort , trial and error to figure a body of water out.

Another tip now this is just personally for me. I never pumped the rod when I reel up or fight it. I always gently lift while keeping pressure if I keep pointing down and reeling while lifting up I feel like gives it a touch of slack cause they spit it easy
@MacMulligan Жыл бұрын
Your rod should do all the work. Your reel is just to manage the line

Thanks for the video. Do you think its necissary to mount the livescope on the pole or is it ok to mount on trolling motor when doing this style of fishing?

I like the format and content here. But the audio volume levels are all over the place. Look in your video editor for audio tools like "compressor" or "limiter", or just pay some basic attention to levels when you're editing. Then, with the good content, I think that your channel can go far.

If this was filmed yesterday, July 24th, then I can confirm that the lake trout here in Northeast, Minnesota. They were acting very much the same way. Either they just straight up couldn't be bothered with anything I was sending down to them, or they would half heartedly chase and only bump the lure every now and then. Paying attention to solunar tables is definitely a thing... yesterday was rubbish
@MacMulligan Жыл бұрын
I believe this was filmed the 18th. I definitely see patterns too but I'm a firm believer that theres a way to catch some fish at all times its just where and how
