Don’t know why Donna Noble had gotten such hate as a companion. She was brilliant. And one of the only ones that didn’t become infatuated with the Doctor. That was a trope I was getting tired of. Not only that but she was a helluva lot more independent than most of the other companions. Also, she came with a great companion of her own, Wilfred. Loved Wilfred. Anyway, by far one of the greatest companions the Doctor ever had.

Unlike the previous two companions who were very young pretty women who fawned over the Doctor (with good reason mind you, so would I), she was a bit of an older woman who made it very clear she wasn't interested in it, and was very argumentative. As time went on, though, she became more well-liked and appreciated as a unique companion, especially in the larger scope of companions who, with the oddball now and then, seem to get progressively less interesting as people later on.

I also think it's great that different people have different companions -- the fact that we all have strong views means that all these actors and actresses (and much of the writing) are brilliant!

One of the reasons why Donna and this season are both so popular is that Catherine Tate and Tennant had so much chemistry together! It can't be overstated how well these two worked when they were bouncing off each other and seeing it on TV just strikes you like lightning. Cheesy, slapstick comedy like this can only really work when both parties are in sync with each other, and that's why Ten and Donna were such a good team and why this is hands down one of the funniest scenes ever of Doctor Who.
