I remember long ago an interview with Colin Baker where he said words to the effect of: "I decided that I would play the Doctor as literally an alien from another planet and therefore he would see things slightly differently to human beings with a slightly different perspective". " He might for example be stepping over the bodies of innocent victims in the heat of a battle without battering an eyelid, but cry when he accidentally crushes a butterfly in the palm of his hand". Well I see a parallel here with him dismissing the death of his would be murderers with a humorous quip, yet feeling compelled to carefully reassemble the stretcher and put it back where he found it.

I think we need to reference Peter Capaldi here, where the Doctor often acts uncaring but does this to mask a very sensitive center. You can see it here with the look of disgust and horror he gives but then tries to detach himself from it with the quip.

I don't know, it seemed a bit out of character for the Doctor to be so blase about anyone's death, especially one so nasty. Those two men would have died in agony and where two subordinates merely doing their job. They thought he was dead and there was nothing to prevent him from attempting to sneak away when there back was turned. I liked Vengeance on Varo overall but that part doesn't sit quite right with me.

I really did LOL when the Doctor crept up and tapped the villain on the shoulder, making him jump and knock his accomplice into the acid bath. That scene followed by the Connery/Moore type quip at the end wouldn't have been out of place in an early James Bond movie.

I like how they have the acid eating them slowly just like real acid would. In pretty much all other instances of villains using "acid", it dissolves anything except its container (and sometimes even that) in seconds. Hooray for scientific accuracy!

One of my favourite Doctor Who scenes from on of my favourite stories. The Doctor acts in self-defence and even then the two deaths aren't his fault. Whilst his James Bond-esque quip at the end is brilliant! Pity Baker didn't get more scenes like this.

To be honest, and I'm gonna lots of hate here, the 6th doctor was my 2nd favourite doctor. I guess it was just because of how ridiculous he was in that coat, and yet he was still the doctor. Ok, he strangled Peri in his first episode, but that goes to show what regeneration can do. And over time, he gets more likeable in my opinion. Also, at one point in the clip, he is SO close to falling in the acid bath, yet somehow he turns around and the other guy falls in O_O

Though to be honest all 12 main actors have been enjoyable each bringing something unique to the table.

I think what made people angry was that the Doctor did not express any remorse over the guards even though he may not have been directly responsible for their deaths. I can understand where they are coming from but at the same time people automatically jump to the conclusion that he killed them when that was not the case, since he almost took a dip in the acid bath himself. That makes me wonder though if the Doctor dies via acid bath can he even regenerate? He would still be in the acid so...??

I honestly understand the backlash to this scene, but I like with actors in modern Who, I can't really blame Colin Baker for this. I can tell that he was playing defensive here, but I can easily see how others would think he was trying to kill the guards. That was just bad directing, I don't know what the director was thinking. Oh, I for sure still like the line at the end, but some of the scene really could've used a retake.

There's some stuff on Doctor Who that scares me, like cybermen, and I'm 18. Children must be different in the UK.

I get the reference, but in all honesty, it is. Quite prescient in regards to modern day reality TV, except we haven't gotten to the point where we vote to have people killed (hopefully, we never will, either).

The New series really hasn't captured the true body horror of the Cybermen. Listen to the Big Finish story Spare Parts if you want a real chill, and see how the Cybermen should be portrayed.

anyone know if this episode on Varos has the closing lines by Colin where he looks at Sil and then Peri and says "..what a waste of water, Peri, eh?"

Yes - this is part 2 of Vengeance on Varos, and Colin does give his infamous pun "I think he needs more than water, Peri, eh?" towards the end of the episode.

His eleventh form sent Solomon the Trader to his death completely on purpose and crowed about it. You can't possible argue that it was accidental or self defense. He could have easily turned him in to the authorities.

I have to take you to task on that - the programme was originally intended to appeal to a family audience - and while "children's show" may have been overstating it - should a family show reall yhave included scenes of people falling in acid baths?

This confirms it. The Doctor is THE most dangerous monster on the whole show. His 11th form wouldn't have done this.
