Easily the creepiest & darkest Regeneration. The Doctor being forced to change, screaming no, in an empty void with no face will always be haunting image. No emotional speech, no honourable last line, not even aloud to finish what he was saying. It was just full on *execution* of The 2nd Doctor… You won’t see a Regeneration like that again in the series, ever…
@exempligratia1012 сағат бұрын
It truly stands out as a unique sequence, especially with the majestic power of the Time Lords that exert their dogmatic, yet pretentious, powers over the Doctor; though this is probably the comeuppance expected since The Doctor abandoned his people and violated their “laws.” Nevertheless, a cruel and depersonalized experience that strips his being and forcing him to exile.

Even with his silliness at times, there's always that undertone of seriousness, class & gravitas with this version of the Doctor. I daresay that this became the blueprint for the portrayals that followed since the first one was a bit more stuffy & proper. This was the first playful Doctor that added that charm to the character.

one of the best doctor who stories of all time imo. recently finished the novelisation which, even though it often feels like your reading a script due to the lack of detail (almost certainly due its long run time, so much needs to be crammed in with so little pages), was a joy to read. such an inspired and interesting idea!
@markvonschlegell49537 сағат бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time in Doctor Who's history that the Doctor underwent a forced regeneration. When William Hartnell transformed into Patrick Troughton, it was because of old age and wear and tear on the First Doctor's body - a natural regeneration. This time, the Time Lords forced it. Every regeneration afterwards was a reaction to external circumstances (gun shots, radiation poisoning, etc.).

@timewyrm1997 Leave it as it is; the significance of the unprecedented magnitude gives insight into the Time Lords Race. However it is questions to challenge the Doctor's actions? Giving the High Counsel a chance to ponder that they were negligent.
