Sin and a Godly repentance of sin is seldom preached in America. Most Americans don't see a need for repentance, they only want God's blessings. We can't get America "lost" in order to get America saved. Most Americans disregard 2 Chronicals 7:14. How sad. It will be to our own peril.

I dont understand how to repent if there isn't sorrow for sin. I struggle with unbelief and a hardened heart, because of my rebellion agsinst God. I want to love Him, but ultimately out of fear, I think. So how can I repent if fear is the main motive? Its been years of struggling with this idea. In this book, the false repentance in the beginning seems to be a repentance based on fear and consequences. But later, a reason to really repent that is given seems to be fear of hell. I think I'm an "almost there" or "half baked" Christian. An almost Christian who has turned from blatant sin in order to avoid the consequences, but who is depressed, empty, selfish, and hardpressed to find joy in Christ, and virtually loveless. I would appreciate prayer please. Idk how to truly repent other than to "white knuckle" and push through, but this is exhausting and loveless

Have you listened/read John Owen, "On the Holy Spirit"? Have you heard of legal vs evangelical repentance? You are describing the first one. The second one is birthed out of deep sorrow because the connection with God is seemingly at stake. Psalm 51- take not your Holy Spirit from me! Evangelical repentance is from the Spirit himself. When he is grieved in us and allows us to share in his grief with him, it leads to godly sorrow. This is because if God is our true Father our spirits testify with the Spirit that he is Father. When we offend him, it is more than fear. 1 John 4 is talking about a perfect love which casts out fear. John knows what it means to offend and dishonour God in a way that outpaces mere punishment. I think reading Andrew Murray's "The Master's Indwelling" may help. I agree with what you are saying. Unless you have a very deep connection with God and see the ugliness of sin for sin itself, unless you hate it and want it gone because and only because it does dishonour and pain to your Lord who bought you at a price, all repentance will be merely man made manufacturing- worldly sorrow at best. To commune with the Father and the Son and then to be shown the sin which grieves them is a different thing all together. True repentance is born out of true love for God not fear. Have you read AW Tozer's "The Pursuit of God"? Are you familiar with the idea of children of the burning hearts? Pray that God would give you this. I am reading this book because Watson is talking about weeping and desperation in repentance. I am asking God to birth this godly sorrow that he and other Puritans seemed to have on a regular basis because of their consciousness of sin. I'll pray for us both right now that God would reveal his preciousness to us in a way which will grant us godly sorrow leading to repentance in a deeper way! In John Bunyan's auotobiography he talks about exactly what you are facing right now. Hang in there. If you have this feeling inside of you and you want more, not less, it may be the beginnings of birth pains of a new season. If you have the guts to reach out to someone like Thomas Watson you are miles ahead of most of Western Christianity and seems that God is creating this discontent for your current state!

Hey bro! I was faced with this same thing. Prayer is what saved my life and audio book by John Flavel " "Keeping the Heart"!! When I say prayer, I don't mean a short 5 minute prayers. I set aside alot of time and asked and cried for answers. Luke 11:5-13. I asked about repentance, assurance, relationship with him, and me being humble, as he is LORD and I am not. I hope this helps bro. I hope you see this. Love you bro!!

Read the Westminster Confession of Faith, Larger and Short Catechism are excellent to explain how broken we are, and how to understand the Law and the application of it. Very rich indeed! Above all pray, and read the scriptures, is a slow process but a sure way to go, Pray, Read, and Obey! Also, you must became an active member of a Reformed Church that follows the scriptures and the Historical record of the Church from the very beginning.

I up voted this video and commented, but my remarks were not posted. Are my comments not welcome here? Or perhaps calling America a xhore was the issue?

mcmilione I see that it was language although the word has been used in previous videos. At any rate thank you. I posted this lecture to Facebook and hope it increases your viewership. All Christians need to hear the message. I observed in my first post that 16 million slumbering Americans watched the phony Republican debate and do not realize that they are prisoners of the Xhore of Babylon. I wish those numbers were reversed and 16 million Americans had listened to this lecture. Keep up the good work. I will pass many of these videos on and hope this web site grows. R.O.C.K.

mcmilione Hello brother, your welcome to comment as much as you want. I don't know what the problem is sometimes comments disappear and reappear for seemingly no reason or sometimes they get marked as spam. I rarely censor comments.
