I've said this over and over. The Dodgers didn't do this over night. They've been gambling on this off-season for two years. We let popular vets walk. We lost studs in their prime. We lucked into getting Freeman. We didn't chase high dollar free agents to fill holes when injuries occured. Now, will we eff it up? Maybe. But Dave Roberts has no more excuses. We've literally gone all in.
@letsinvestigateit9 ай бұрын
they are not gambling they are buying a world series ring. Who is going to want to watch baseball anymore except dodgers fans happy they bought a world series ring. After you win world series you didn't really win it you bought it gettin all the starts in free agency. It is like barry bonds taking steroids ya your going to win but nobody will respect way dodgers did it its like they are cheating. And all of these players signing with the dodgers are 100% sell outs to get a ring. Thats all they are. No different then when Kevin Durant went to the warriors. All of them have to go to a front runner to win. Its pure cringe.

@@therealjaystone2344 That sounds a lot like sour grapes! Look, every single team in baseball had the same chances to get Ohtani and Yamamoto, the other owners are just too greedy to let go of some of their profits to put a good/better team together. People are always whining about "small market teams don't have a chance", not true at all, every team makes more than enough money to be able to afford the super stars, the problem is in they don't want to give up a share of their profits to do so! If they improved their players, improved their coaching staff, built or renovated a better stadium they'd win more games, pack the house better, get better endorsements/TV coverage and have more money, period!
@@user-jv9qz2bu1r Fine, you have an opinion different than mine. However, lets look at the NFL, there's is no "smaller market" team than the Green Bay Packers and they manage to compete just fine, in fact they had a dynasty going for a very long time, how'd they do it? They did it because their ownership had big goals and wasn't content to just be a mediocre team! When you have small goals, that's exactly the kind of goals you'll achieve, small victories!

Length of contract is not that crazy when you consider that most baseball players in the US do not get to free agency until they're 27 at the earliest. So to me, 12 years with Yamamoto is 9-10 years typically. In this day and age, pitchers can go into their later 30s. Verlander is 40, Scherzer is 39, etc. It comes down to health... if he can keep his arm healthy. 37 years old is not that bad. Also, considering how fast contracts are getting bigger, it might not be that expensive come 10 years from now.

I think the best way to point out just how absurd the length of his contract is would be something like this: (unrealistic, but all of this is considering the best possible scenario) An average starting pitcher will throw 33 starts in a season, assuming no one ever gets hurt in the rotation. Figure the Dodgers let him pitch a max of 105 pitches in any game, considering his stamina, and if you assume he meets that limit every game, he would throw 3,465 pitches in a year. Which means his contract is worth roughly 41,580 pitches

Acquired most of the bullpen, Glasnow, Margot, Mookie, Taylor, Muncy, plus more through trade, giving up valuable pieces in the process. Don’t forget that Taylor and Muncy were nobodies in the league until they got to L.A. This is the main problem I have with baseball and why it’s so hard to watch and care about. This is why small market teams will never win and if they do it’s one time and they will never be close most years (KC for example). A billion dollars for two players is a prime reason why there needs to be a salary cap. I get that spending the most money doesn’t guarantee you a ring (Mets) but you have Phillies, dodgers, braves, astros, and rangers who are going to win the World Series this year and no one else. Which makes the rest of the league unimportant to care about. Compared to the NHL where there’s a salary cap and there’s many more teams that can win which makes the league more fun to watch and there’s more games and series that are meaningful. This isn’t terrible for baseball imo

Salary caps are what actually kill sports. Look at the NBA, free agents all still go to LA, NY and MIA, small teams can’t overspend to make up for that though

@@mouseinthehouse_ nailed it 👌🏼👌🏼 plus the salary floor just made teams like houston overpay for mid players. the contracts they gave to van vleet and brooks were hilarious

Wayne Garland got 10 years in 1977 I believe. Released after 5 so that's what a great idea that was.

The issue is not just that all the other teams literally cannot hope to match their spending with messes with parity, but the Dodgers spend sooo much damn money on a guy who is a good DH (he won't pitch this year) and a guy who has never pitched in MLB before. I guess they aren't worried as the Japanese market will generate lots of money, but the massive amount of money spent by the Dodgers makes the early 2000's Yankees who "were buying championships" into nothing. It increases pressure and also makes all of non-LA baseball root against them. If they fail they become a laughingstock.

Dodgers will win a ridiculous amount of games. Their players will put up insane, gaudy numbers. They will get Cy Young and MVP awards. The team will get national attention and make tons of money. Yet, they will fall to a "lesser" team more often than not when it really counts. On the flip side, I kind of hope they win like 5 WS in a row, cuz it will show how broken and lopsided the sport really is when it comes to big market vs small market teams. Honestly cant go on this way or else youll have to shrink the league down to 8 big market teams and make the rest like a quadruple A farm league. The gap is becoming noticeably wider.

The Dodgers will undoubtedly make the postseason as they always do, but if they get knocked out the postseason early AGAIN, then all of these postseason dealings will have accomplished nothing for them. There is a lot of pressure on the Dodgers to do well in the postseason.

I mean they just get Ohtani back as a pitcher the year after

There’s still the problem of 0-26 with runners on 2nd against the D-Backs when it counted most

As a Yankee fan with the cy young winner we’re good this guy has never thrown a pitch he’s now considered the best of all time which is insane plus there’s actual proven talent available left so for 29 other fan bases not being dodgers they’re good.

I'm calling it. Next year's WS will be won by a small market team, like the Rays. The baseball Gods demand it after this ridiculous spending

I saw a good point on twitter btw, the dodgers didnt outbid any of these teams. These players just wanted to play there.

From bums to superheroes (for LA)/SUPERVILLAINS (the rest of the continent)! Flips birds in Mike Piazza, Jason Schmidt, Darren Dreifort, Brett Tomko, with special doubles for Frank and Jamie McCourt, general directions. Decades of pain and failure (their words) finally led to the West Coast Avengers. Merry Bluemas I meant Christmas! Let's go sign Luke Skywalker now. I'm like almost sure he's a lefty.
