Yeah, it's true AlejoLab. The dodo was popular but it wasn't properly documented which resulted in such over-zealous misinterpretations. And the extinct animals I mentioned are just a few among many more, some are even not yet described or identified, which is heartbreaking.

I believe that the true depiction of both the Red Rail bird of Mauritius and the Dodo bird of Mauritius were those painted by Jacob Hoefnagel. The red rail was based off the bird in the menagerie of the King of Poland which was taxidermy ( Since has been lost ). If that red rail painting one was painted from life accurately , then odds are the painting of the dodo by Jacob Hoefnagel is true I believe. I beleive the dodo was a taxidermied specimen but there's much more info & records on the Red Rail painting than the dodo painting. Just my opinion.
@FactorTrace Жыл бұрын
Actually, the misrepresentation doesn't come from the painter's depictions, but from the taxidermy itself. Some old taxidermists weren't biologists or experts in animal anatomy they were artists that have never seen the actual animal. One extreme example is the Lion of Gripsholm Castle. Hoefnagel might have accurately painted the taxidermy, but the taxidermy is not an accurate depiction of the live animal.
@asoncalledvoonch22108 ай бұрын
@@FactorTrace True. It's possible that the red rail & dodo weren't the best stuffed specimens.... The hoefnagel painting looks the most similar to the colorless drawings made by the crew of the Gelderland.

YESSSS THIS VIDEO WAS FIRE
@SavedPotato3 ай бұрын
11:00 Well everything considered they where remarkably close . The general head, beak, and body shape is all there as is the two tone feather and beak coloration. And looking back at Roelant Savery's depiction he painted the parrots accurately. Perhaps the inconsistencies could be down to having seen a pet dodo that had obesity from being over fed on grains or stress or as you said a stuffed Dodo could have been used, yet that wouldn't explain the different coloration. Its a very common form of sexual dimorphism for male birds to be much more colorful than females, which could easily explain both Roelant's and Ustad's differing depictions. I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion these were faked based upon the evidence given. That said Roelant could have added flourishes to his art here and there. I mean no depiction in the video or any fossil evidence suggests Dodos had blue eyes and the scientifically accurate one you depicted had blue. It doesn't mean they didn't, of course, but you see my point I'm sure. That said I enjoyed your video and it's clear you put a fair bit of time into it, and I enjoy learning so thanks!

Il y avait une espèce de boa qui vivait avec les dodo donc il aurait pu être leurs prédateurs naturel
@FactorTrace2 жыл бұрын
The round island burrowing boa was a small type of snake, its adult length was just around 1 meter. It inhabited a small area of the island, probably a different area where most of the dodos lived, and it preyed on small animals. The dodo, even the egg and the hatchling were too big for this boa.
