When the lady said it was like looking after a child with autism, I nodded so hard. She was on the money. A lot of what Max does translates to compulsions I had a little autistic kid. Hyperfixation on things, requirement for rigid routine and specific objects, lots of energy but only certain things that you want to spend it on. I still have all of this but I manage better now. Honestly, what a sweet dog. I'm glad Victoria didn't see it as something to punish but instead something to support and manage.

Yeah I was afraid someone would see that as offensive, but it really does make sense. I know plenty of functional adults with autism, and I know one person who probably can't ever live on his own-the range of autistic experiences is vast. But hyperfixations are a HUGE one. And the door licking is very much like a kind of stim or fidget.

I hate the phrase "I'm so OCD." Well, have you sat alone in your room crying because the thoughts are repeating so much in your head that it hurts & you want to put your brain in a blender? Yeah, that's the dark side of OCD. I have spent nights with my head in my hands crying because my OCD was badgering me so much. Edit: they think it's all neat & tidy but that's not all aspects of life for everyone with OCD, if it comes to cleaning my friend's house then I'm up for it but if it's mine I won't touch it, we are neat in certain things but very untidy in other things.

The owners knew Max wasn't a bad dog, and when Victoria told them their dog actually had OCD, they. . .listened. _Max_ didn't switch that reflection obsession to the carpet, it was involuntary. With OCD, it's not willful. As soon as you cut off one trigger, another one pops up from the depths of one psyche. Trust me, it's entirely against your will. They have done a brilliant job. Most of all, Max has done a brilliant job. OCD is heinous. There's good reason she allowed them 4x the regularly allotted time to work with Max. OCD is simply incredibly difficult to overcome. It takes time and immense patience. It's essentially whack-a-mole. Just when you think you've tackled a one part of it fully, another three issues come popping up out of the woodwork, lol...;)
