But for the most part, besides soulsbourne games, the only new ideas we've really gotten over the past 20 years are online passes, micro transactions, walking simulators, and the casualization of gaming in general. Its why we have a whole generation of gamers who think story is what makes games good. There will always be room in the market for a new ninja stealth game. If it wasn't tenchu, it'd be a tenchu ripoff.

I've been with FromSoft games since my brother imported Demon's Souls from South Korea. At the same time, I've yet to complete Dark Souls... while none of their games have been a "miss," there's something to be said about how dynamic and varied the stories they tell are and even the gameplay of a "soulsborne" game can be. It has taken other companies a decade to get even close to the formula, and still they're a decade behind in some dimension, such as the hand-crafted feel of every encounter. Elden Ring felt like a Final Fantasy 7 level of mastery... and I can't wait for the DLC.

I think that there were a number of issues that CDPR faced after Wild Hunt. One of the bigger ones was that they simply grew way to big, way to fast. The only other issue that I I’m more confident in the knowledge I have, is that there was a sudden and massive employment of middle management. But I'm guessing you haven't lived around Japanese people much to have a comprehensive perspective of the potential sense of commitment and discipline exercised in their culture. In Japan, you will get a free pre-cooked burger if you order one and ask the vendor to warm it up and the forget make it verbally clear that now they will open the plastic wrapping in order to warm it up.

Being Japanese doesn't exclude them from the possibility of failure. Anything coming from the Pokemon Series, Forspoken and Babylons Fall are some recent examples of japanese devs/companies absolutely missing the mark or being lead by the prospect of money. Blizzard my former favorite has continously broken my heart the past few years through their new emphasis on greed. Rockstar have become way too lazy and just milking their fan base through GTA. CD Projekt Red so far has 1 stain on their resume (which to no surprise ff one bad practice of other game companies) but did bounced back and rectify the mistake, but still the full trust was shattered a little bit. Bethesda is relying on Elder Scrolls reputation particularly Skyrim and just releasing the same games with the new ones being worse than the old ones (true masterpieces) without anything new and just lacks inspiration, their games are so glitchy too. From Software has yet to shake my faith, bangers after bangers of releases, hope their streak continues and may the forces of greed never influence their games.

I'm not sure about the consistency part. FromSoft wasn't that consistent as you say. They only started getting proper attention after DS3, and even then they weren't that popular. Don't forget that Witcher 3 sold 50 million copies. I would only call Sekiro and ER as top tier quality. Every FromSoft game has its problems, even my favourite, DS3, and I can see it and admit it. CDPR was considered great devs not just because they released Witcher 3. They were really in touch with the community, and they weren't in it for the money, frequently selling the games dirt cheap or outright giving it away. From my perspective there were a lot of factors contributing to CDPRs public image. But that said, I'll admit the game contributed the most, but perhaps not the majority. But I wish you talked about all the other things that they've done. That's why CP'77 received so much backlash, because people thought CDPR was infallible. I hope they get everything sorted out. And I hope FromSoft doesn't fuck up.
