According to recent reports, a Donkey Kong solo movie is reportedly in development, with actor and comedian Seth Rogen attached to produce and potentially star in the film. While details on the project remain scarce, it is said to be separate from the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie, in which Rogen will voice the character of Donkey Kong.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Illuminations’s Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

I think it’ll be a bit of both. The story will take on elements from the original DK arcade game and most of it from the DK Country franchise. So that means, DK kidnaps Pauline and fights Mario again while in the meantime King K Rool and his minions steal the Jungle Kingdom’s entire food supply and bananas. Now DK and his friends have to join together and find their bananas and then take Pauline back home. And then could come the zinger. When K Rool fails to keep the bananas away from the Kongs, he later decides to take Pauline hostage and DK has to save her.

Donkey Kong's debut was his own 1981 arcade without a single pattern that later got recycled for Donkey Kong 64 and became an alien leader for Sam Brenner, Will Cooper, Violet Van Patten and Q-Bert to rescue three captives from and defeat him by a mighty hammer.

Candy kinda has a temper problem and mistreated DK in that old DK Country TV show and in the games, she’s an ape who likes to flirt. She can be in the movie but just not as DK’s girlfriend. I think Funky Kong is a good choice to be Candy’s boyfriend since he doesn’t mind of her flirtatious ways. DK doesn’t actually need a love interest, unless you count Pauline but only in a Kong and Ann Darrow kind of love.
