Great story, Heather . Very good narration of this story. No surprise, as you always do a good job of telling your stories. He got fair and just treatment for his actions.in this day, we've gone numb, I think to these types of stories, because they happen all the time. But at that time, and the lack of instant 24 hour a day news, this would have been big news. I still feel this punishment is exactly what should happen in these types of trials. Severe punishment, swiftly applied. No appeals dragging out for years. Again, Heather, great job. God bless y'all for what you do and stay safe on your travels.

The true hero of the story was the woman who called out his BS after taunting her. Many women, especially in those years felt shame for the violation, not Mrs. Johnson.

First of all, can we talk about the professional quality of this video? Truly exceptional video imagery and narration! Just VERY well done! Second, for all of the gallows-talking that ol’ Happy Yapper here did, I still think he was guilty. That “r” word carried an even heavier stigma for the victim back then than it does now. Even now, it frequently goes unreported due to fear and shame. And then for her to finally speak up and declare his guilt in front of that big crowd, with him crowing over her? I think she was telling the truth. Third, now I just picture telephone operator, Oda Casey, taking up a new hobby and traveling around attending hangings. Murderers, “R”-ists, pictures, laundry…if it’s hanging, Oda is here for it. 😬

Excellent video as always. It seems very strange to me that so many of stories about mountain people in West Virginia and Kentucky involved murder and violence while at the same time the mountains seem so beautiful and peaceful. All the people I encountered in Ohio who were from hills were always hardworking, G-d fearing and pleasant folks. I am struggling to understand how they are kin and blood of murderers and scoundrels.

It should all become much easier to understand once you study USA history; remember, the very presence of Europeanoids in the entirety of the western hemisphere is the result of Europe throwing its two-legged garbage out.... That garbage ended up squatting in the western hemisphere, Australia, and south Africa.
