Awesome and sublime, literally like gazing through magic portals upon the sights and sounds of a lost world and thankfully for them then and us now, The Doors made numerous filmed television appearances and especially for the very few intrepid geniuses who invented the provocative motion picture camera around a hundred and thirty years ago, surely humanities greatest invention.

As some have mentioned - a phenomenal live band. But this is TV. And this is the first time I've seen my most favourite band ever play for a TV audience (outside Ed Sullivan) , so early in their short-lived amazing career. Thanks JimJohnRayRobby. DOORS FOREVER!!!!

I got to meet him as a tiny child . I don’t forget about the smell ! Pungent. Hygiene is not something he cared about. His speaking voice was very primitive, softly assessing. He seemed to be motivated by winning moments. Like everywhere was a competitive environment. He definitely had chips on his shoulders, resentment. He was easily jealous of others good looks, nice duds, certain atmospheres- things. He was kinda full of hang ups and he took drugs in those moods so the trips were erratic. But his personality was so hurt! People felt like taking care of him - it’s all that Swedish and native tribes- he just exuded the hurt kid aura - and he used it . I was small - he didn’t really want to hold a small kid but he did - and I remember how stressed and rigid like a blade of steel but he looked cuddly and it was all layers of acting . He finally relaxed- and we communed awhile. A social happening . I have private communication he said to me - as he got hash stoned - yay- he began teaching me. All of that is going into part of my book due out soon - growing up amongst famous people- life really is wild and wonderful! The camp of it all ! Socially. Mystically- we all are famous- we all have much to teach - I loved the keyboardist. He set up and got straight to the brilliance of crafting music . My father was helping in recording techniques- in our house in Monterey . Dad was part of the recording studio too in Monterey that all Norwegian wood one - it’s a good thing mother grew up in England too, because our home had cooking delicacies which put most musicians in a happy comforted feeling . ❤

Are you the little girl who plays with Jim’s hair in a black and white video clip? Apparently Jim was great with kids! I never realised he was smelly. He always looked quite clean (for an alkie) and I never thought he’d be jealous of anything. Seems I may be wrong- anyways thanks for sharing!
@SilverNitrate5 жыл бұрын
Jim is setting the tone here - IMHO, this performance sets the bar for passive-aggressive hatred on the status quo. I'm kind of amazed at how well each band member roll is defined in this video - Jim the rebel, Robbie having fun, and Ray giving 110%. Just an amazing video - thanks for sharing!

Just amazing how Ray plays the base with his left hand while doing rhythm with his right! Probably the most unique thing about them that most people don't know. Yeah, and how you're saying, "Oh, wait a minute...there's no base player like every other band on the planet". But yes there is - it's Ray's left hand!
@farmwatch49677 жыл бұрын
RAY MANZAREK JUST FVCKING GENIUS!
@jrl49077 жыл бұрын
Every piano player does this. It's not magic, just training. The left hand does a repetitive rhythm without thinking about it, like chewing gum and walking. Although the bass lines aren't usually as complicated as what Ray plays.
@miragemirage19946 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hate it when people say "they're amazing despite not having a bass player, it's like, no! They're amazing because they don't need a bass player thanks to Ray, and that's part of the reason why they still sound like no other rock band, despite influencing so many bands after them.

It's strange to hear bass on most of The Doors' songs but they didn't have a bassist, I've always had a feeling that the bass lines were dubbed into the mix but it's incredible to know that Ray Manzarek actually played the bass lines on his keyboards.

***** I know this wasn't the Ed Sullivan show. This was SHEBANG. I'm referring to the time that they were on the Ed Sullivan show when they performed Light my fire to the previous comment above.
