They only appeared once on Sullivan, on Sep 17, 1967. The Doors took the stage to perform two of their biggest hits. Morrison sang "People are Strange" (on the band's second studio album "Strange Days", which was released in Sep'67) with a vacant look in his eyes. Immediately following that song the band segued into their number one hit, “Light My Fire.”

Songs are often written and performed live a while before theyre released so im guessing thats what happened here. Though the first two albums were released in the same year tbf so people are strange was released less than a year after light my fire. Idk the exact dates of the show or album release so idk whether or not this happened after people are strange was released, so it could very well be either. But if this happened before the 2nd album released then people are strange wouldve definitely been written by then cause at most this wouldve happened a few months before the album was released.
