The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965, with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore. They were among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly because of Morrison's lyrics and voice along with his erratic stage persona, and the group was widely regarded as an important part of the era's counterculture.
The band took its name from the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, itself a reference to a quote by William Blake. After signing with Elektra Records, the Doors with Morrison released six albums in five years, some of which are considered among the greatest of all time, including The Doors (1967), Strange Days (1967), and L.A. Woman (1971). They were one of the most successful bands during that time and by 1972 the Doors had sold over 4 million albums domestically and nearly 8 million singles.
Morrison died in uncertain circumstances in 1971. The band continued as a trio until disbanding in 1973. They released three more albums in the 1970s, two of which featured earlier recordings by Morrison, and over the decades reunited on stage in various configurations. In 2002, Manzarek, Krieger and Ian Astbury of the Cult on vocals started performing as the Doors of the 21st Century. Densmore and the Morrison estate successfully sued them over the use of the band's name. After a short time as Riders on the Storm, they settled on the name Manzarek-Krieger and toured until Manzarek's death in 2013.
The Doors were the first American band to accumulate eight consecutive gold LPs. According to the RIAA, they have sold 33 million records in the US and over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. The Doors have been listed as one of the greatest artists of all time by magazines including Rolling Stone, which ranked them 41st on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". In 1993, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The band has a more fuller sound with the 2 extra players, it frees up Robby to do his thing with a cool slide solo and he also does a good job at vocal on top of that. Damn, they sound good if only Jim was here to add in the lead vocal. RIP

I could see Jim singing this, too. Shame he had to become a legend instead of living life. But then again, I couldn't imagine an OLD Jim Morisson. It'd be like if Elvis were alive today.... it just doesn't seem right. These guys were destined to pop off young.

I don't think he was a particularly good singer......BUT, I do prefer his leads over Ray's....something about Ray's voice doesnt do it for me. They really should have renamed the band, gotten a good vocalist and then gone whichever way they were heading..... I just heard an old Robby interview from 1986....surprisingly he made it sound like the three remaining guys couldn't stand each other during this era of the band (early post-Jim).....I'd figured they'd have been happier, or at least less stressed, without having to worry about an unreliable, and kind of unstable front man (that's not a dis against Jim....I'm a huge fan....but, I know he must have been a nightmare to work with at times..lol)

Robbie is the bands humorous relief. Wrote most of the bands catchier songs. Although L.A. Woman and Riders On The Storm are heavy, they're still adventurous and fantastic. I think is cartoonish voice his very cool and fun, and quite grunge actually.

He co-wrote Love Street, Hello, and Wildchild, which come to think of it is very much his sing along 'watch the bouncing ball' jingoistic style.

@@Tull1996 I'll go as far as saying Ray can't actually sing...😁 He has a strong voice, but can't actually "sing"... Robbie on the other hand, doesn't have a good voice at all, but he can actually do what they call "voculate". Singing is really about being able to make sounds as much as it is having a great voice even! This is why rap and 'ad-libbing', love it our hate it, still has an audible appeal and is entertaining, for some.....

It's sad when bands lose a lead singer but want to go on, as has happened with Queen, INXS and of course the originals, the Doors. You can hear that the remaining Doors are still musically cooking here, but there's no magic anymore.

This is a really great song. People get caught up with the lack of Morrison and question the decision to keep going. I’d say three things: 1. There are some great songs on Other Voices especially and even Full Circle. 2. These guys deserved the spotlight without the earlier distractions and other issues. 3. The band here is amazingly tight. Yeah maybe with Morrison’s lyrics and vocals there’s another really strong album post LA Woman but it’s hard to know whether Morrison’s vocals improves this song. In my mind Robbie would still sing lead with Jim harmonising on the “life ain’t so easy bits.”

Good music but they needed a new front man or woman. A lead singer was missing especially after losing Jim. I’m glad Beat Club filmed all the bands that played on their program so now we have a quality video performance and the bands always played live on their show. That’s the way it should be anyway. Thanks for uploading this!

He's singing about being lonely basically, but using drugs to get through it. He's also saying his life is simple and easy because he has no one to be responsible to. I think the Doors became basically a mediocre jazz blues band after Jim died. Jim brought the passion, the ferocity, the strange and rhe spectacle to a middle of the road, modern jazz band, imo.

As much as I think the Doors wouldn't have been the same if you remove any member, I think they should've changed their name and gotten a new lead singer. With that being said, I've heard that Other Voices was meant to have Jim sing, so they could've added that as their final album

Robby can certainly play that slide guitar it’s sad that as a guitar player he’s very underrated. He should’ve been on top like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimi Hendrix. Since Jim was no longer around him and Ray were now singing. If Jim Morrison were around perhaps he’d be singing this song who knows. They tried staying together before they broke up it wasn’t the same without Jim Morrison.

Yup, great musicians - they suck. Now, I wouldn't call that "The Doors" (although that's how they chose to identify the band as, after Morrison's death), but... seriously, most of us won't ever be in Doors' level. Jim was a great artist, but he wasn't the entire band. The Doors were all the 4 artists/musicians. This video clearly shows it - even though there isn't a Morrison, the remaining band members are still doing well.

If you always had this approach for the Doors, then their music clearly isn't for you.. not for you to understand. Like some bands in this world, it takes a deeper understanding to feel certain types of music and musical colaborations.. the mystery around them at the time and of course with Jims sudden passing in a different country, makes the band so much more interesting all these years later.. They were pioneers on so many levels. Maybe one day you'll see it this way too.
