It should be noted that the infrastructure built in the bubble is what provided the systems necessary for mass adoption. All that selling of networking and storage allowed cloud services to become a thing. I'm using a lot of shorthand here, but I used to work at a consulting firm called Wikibon, and we studied this at length. Basically, if the internet grew organically, we would still be years behind on network infrastructure, which would have made things like CDNs (like KZbin or twitch) impossible until recently.

Just had to rewatch this video tonight. Earlier I was talking to my parents reminiscing on 9/11 (I was in elementary school then) and saying despite the horrors of that day what came after was better because of the patriotism and how unified everyone was. My dad simply said he hated 2001 as a whole because the “economy sucked”. I didn’t get it at first and it clicked and I said the dotcom bubble. And my dad clarified he hated 2001 because he worked for a computer company (and still does) and the bursting of the bubble made his work slow and made him uneasy about a possible lay off. He said when 2001 was over he said he was so happy, as he will with 2020. And now I go to this video.

After a while the market adjust to the new lower interest rate and is back to normal, making it no longer worth to invest, the more people sell, the lower the price, and the crash happens. Me watching videos about the bubble dot-com: Lowest interest rates since the 70s, people invest like crazy in any dot-com, after 2000 the market normalize and readjust to the new lower prices and investments is no longer worth. BOOM another crisis. Me watching videos about QE "Quantitave Easing is a government program to make people invest more via the lowest interest rates EVER and via printing money and lending to entrepreneur." @John Doe I'm not saying tesla is a great company or even recommend them. I just get tired of all the comments comparing tesla to the dot com bubble. Even if tesla stocks do tank. It's not the same situation. During the dot com boom, you had a bunch of companies that were way over valued and had almost no assets except some servers and sometimes no actual product. It's not like you could restructure a lot of these dotcoms into profitability Tesla does have assets and a product although they are still not profitable but worse comes to worse assets can be sold, it can be restructured towards a profitable business model, etc. Tesla is high risk but not a dot com.

Moral of the story: unless you happen to have a crystal ball and know exactly when bubbles burst, it's best to wait until after the bubble to get in on the hoopla. To be clear, this does _not_ mean you shouldn't start investing right now, because investing is a long-term goal, but if you want to profit off short-term surges, it's best not to risk it all doing so.

I agree 100% and I’m a long term investor. But not everyone can be as good with critical thinking as us lol it’s so clear that gasoline isn’t sustainable and the fact that autonomous driving is the next step for transportation. Plus it’s under valued right now because analysts see it as an auto company when will the idiot bears wake up and realize it’s tech, battery, software, E-motors.. etc

Insane valuation, growth over profit, people go gaga on companies with huge loss... I hate to say this but this is eerily similar to today's tech industries situation. And I hope today's tech industries growth is just a new business model, not a bubble like the dotcom bubble in early 2000s

High valuation, no profits.. Sounds a lot like Tesla.

On 9/13/2001, my long-term IT boss yelled at me for: -failing to adapt to the demands of my job, -not caring about the company, and -still being a "kid". When I tried to find another IT job, nobody wanted me, despite that I had 4.75 years of experience. I realize now that it was like that because the recession had already begun back in March 2001. The IT bubble already burst. It was the first recession I experienced as a working adult. If my boss had yelled at me 7 months prior back in Feb 2001, I would have been able to get another IT job and continue my IT career. And I probably would have never taken out a student loan later on.

I'd like a shirt that's a bit more discrete than the current one available. Thanks for the great content!

Throughout 1997 and 1998, I could always get another better IT job than the one I currently had. Every new IT job I got paid more than the last one. Then in Feb 2002 when I tried to get another IT job, nobody wanted me, despite having 5 years experience, and despite the fact that I had stably been in my current job for 3.5 years.
