It would be interesting to see the first year of Robert and Cora's marriage. People forget that whether high or low there was a day when a marriage had little to do with love. Falling in love was a bonus.

The problem wasn't really the investment - railroad - it was the lack of diversification. But, yes, Robert is a mediocre money manager at best. It's a problem with those born wealthy.

This actually was pretty common at the time, since many aristocrats were increasingly impoverished. What makes Robert and Cora special is that they later fell in love after marrying, which didn’t often happen.
