They also don’t have conversations with their clients or try to reach a shared understanding on the clients previous hair history, clients hair goals, and how the client currently manages their hair. They’ll have you sit in their chair and be dead silent the whole service. And in my opinion, it should be similar to seeing a doctor in the sense that ask you questions about your hair and hair routine to get a better understanding of how to manage their hair. Also offer advice and an honest assessment on the health of their hair rather than bullying them into cut length

@NamaGVida
@NamaGVida 6 ай бұрын
@@Theprincessinyellow Thank you!! Here are my main length retention methods: consistent wash routine (don’t go beyond 2 weeks), don’t put anything on your scalp other than shampoo, keep your hair in styles that make it easy to detangle and styles that keep your hair smooth, do minimal to no hair tie styles like ponytails unless you’re doing it for 1 day, remove the hair tie before the next day, get regular trims (trims not cuts, I do once every 3 months) and DEEP condition AT LEAST once every month. Hope this helps 💖

Update: I’ve learned, from AfrikanHairGod and other ladies who are experiencing the same thing, that the damage is irreversible. To keep the hair, you would have to keep doing bond treatments and protein treatments. Caring for healthy hair is way more fun than caring for damaged hair. Instead of big chopping, I cut my hair to neck length.

I just feel stupid for following their methods for so long. My hair is now so damaged, so dry, and I have extended splits throughout the majority of my hair. I saw the sign, but I foolishly kept listening to them. I’d cut off 2-4 inches at a time 💇🏾‍♀️, but the splits kept coming. One day I plucked a few strands just to examine closely and see what was really going on. 🕵🏽Turns out I had splits in the middle of my strands even though the end was clean cut. 🤷🏽‍♀️ How TF does that even happen. 😡 A strand of hair separating into 2 pieces in a place other than the end of the strand. 🤦🏾‍♀️😭 The worst thing is that all I wanted to do was just embrace my natural hair. I was so proud to shed the weight of wigs, crotchets, and braids. I just wanted to be free. I initially felt so beautiful in my wNg’s, twist outs, and fluffy fro’s. After Two years of following this stupid trend, my poor hair is a dry, stringy, split up, mess. 😢 I really don’t want to do besides shave it off and start over.😢

I wish i could give more insight to the problem but unfortunately none of the women whose hair I assessed and cut from the nonb damage came back for me to observe their damage over a period of time. The damage is sooo severe that there's really no repair or solution to the issue that we know of. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience of this situation and I wish you the best of luck on your hair journey.

In my group we were refusing these BGC gurus and the entire sect. I warned many women about not using butter and oils. They refused scientific evidence that butter and oils benefit to healthy hair. Each time you interact with these people they are very agressive. What they do not understand not every oil are equal. You need to know how and when and why you use them. You need to know when clarify also to prevent the accumulation but oils and butters are beneficial to healthy hair. The BGC approach is unfortunately refusing to nourish while weakening the hair and oxydising it with the excessive use of water. Furthermore without scientific all they needed to do is use their common sense . If oils and butters were detrimental for hair so many ancestral and cultural haircare routine wouldn't have integrated them. Million of women would have had their on the floor. I knew the time would come when this method saw an end.

Ive actually notice that most of them actually start out the detox with longer "dry hair" and end with like 5 inches of hair in a bob after like a year or 2. A bob that their stylist probably convinced them to get.

But retaining length isn’t just for people who want to keep their long hair or grow long hair ☹️. If you aren’t retaining length and the hair is breaking or splitting, it’s damaged. Period. I think it is interesting how BGC consistently say that they don't do KZbin, but they have made numerous attempts to be KZbinrs/Content Creators. Like when you look at their KZbin page, they have multiple abandoned KZbin series: Real Salon stories, Curls Disrupted Podcast, 10 Things to Consider Before You..., and Wash Your Damn Hair Challenge. Plus, some of the things they said on their podcast is contradictory like on episode 5 they are talking about how clients should be able to view their hair stylist as a resource for knowledge yet on episode 10 they say that hairstylist don't have to teach their clients anything cause the appointment isn't a class. Another thing that I find interesting are the livestreams/videos that have mysteriously been taken down from their page. Some of which I used as research to decide to follow the BGC method. At the time, I was too caught up in the idea of a "Wash hour" rather than a "Wash day" to realize some of the flaw in what they were saying. Those videos had takes like: how products that don't cost a lot must be made with poor ingredients -- which in their mind is why the cost is so low -- thus, people should invest in salon grade products because the cost means they are using high quality ingredients. Which was interesting because they put Tia Mowry's haircare line in their suggested product list before I left the See Some Curls Society. As someone who is trying to basically nurse my hair back to health because of all this, it's nice to have all of this evidence laid out in one place to show how avoiding feedback and not course correcting has gotten my hair to where it is today. Since my hair was fairly healthy before, I know that it's possible to grow my hair out again but it is disappointing to see my previous efforts come to this because of hoping on a trend that was promoted as proper haircare. It's a truly humbling yet teachable moment for me.

The BGC movement left everyone like scooby doo investigators trying to figure out wth is going on. The type of damage the method causes isn't just remedied by a deep conditioner, leave in, the dryness just travels further up and up before you realize that you need a twa. The only parts of my hair that retained barely 3-4 inches or so is where there is a s-curl, all of my tight/loose coils 4a-4c were obliterated. I re-started my natural journey because of stress-induced hair loss only for professionals to mess it up even further with miseducation. As a medic professional, the amount of cases I've seen where people have developed worsened seborrheic dermatitis or alopecia triggered by irritants because of their aggressive wash your dam hair campaign. I'm all for supporting black-owned business but don't let being ethical be thrown out of the window. I'm so happy I caught on the train whilst people with integrity could speak directly and not try it dampen it down to remain politically correct and just make the root of the cause to be even more muddied.

Recently, my stylist cut about 3 inches of of my hair (straight) because it was unhealthy. The style I chose looks good if I choose to wear it curly or if I choose to straighten it. It's that part of what I stylist does, create styles that work for their client's hair, not just the stylist's methodology & hair philosophy?

Looking at their hair, idk where they are in their journeys but for the lady that always has her hair own curly with the blonde dye, her shape is constantly changing and from video to video, it looks shorter and shorter. Then for them to talk so much about influencers, I have never seen anyone who goes “no oils, no butters” reach past bra strap length unless their hair is never out. None of the women that I’ve seen that had waist length hair before the curly cuts, have ever reached waist length again after, because of having to constantly having get more cuts to correct the damage. Influencers who live by oils and butter, plenty of them have reached waist length and beyond. Hell, even plenty of women who use grease. After going to cosmetology school and my teacher used me as a demo to do a curly cut on my hair almost 2 years ago now and I’m still correcting the damage she did. My hair was already dyed, but she cut over half my length off and it took me forever to realize what was going on so my hair kept getting worse.

I feel like when it's time for my children to get their hair done, this issue with the brand wars is going to continue over and over. Kinky Tresses was the only pre-locked brand I was able to use on my hair. All the brands I was using kept selling out/changing formulas. A lot of those cuts were great if you could rock a traditional wash and go. If you wore your hair straight/stretched sometimes abd curly other times, the cut could be weird because we usually have multiple textures in our head. (I had 4A-4C hair all over and one random spot that could pass as 3C on a good day with product.) That 4A stretched curly hair looked crazy next to my kinky 4C hair with a cut if people didn't know what they were doing. Lord forbid heat damage.

I don't follow them. I've never even heard of any of this. But this makes me nervous for my 10 yr old's hair. She's so tenderheaded because of webbing and tangling so I leave it alone a lot. But your video makes me think there's damage to her lipid layer. Wish I could bring her to you for assessment, but she's so tenderheaded. I'm definitely booking appointments for my 18 and 21 yr olds, and maybe for myself too! I want all our hair to be healthy! Thanks for the education.

Chile every time I watch one of these videos from u, I feel like I need to go get a blow out and a haircut. I have been using kinky curly for over a decade for my wash n gos. I can get 7 days with it. The only time I started having problems with my wash n go was when I used diva curl and my hair fell out. I tried the I create hold, but the dryness is insane!! And that’s after a deep conditioner AND using a leave in. I do get curly cuts but not as often, but I will just do a blow out n trim and see if there are any difference in my hair. Thanks for taking the time to put all of this together!!

THANK YOU for this very detailed video. I did not know all of the tidbits surrounding this issue. Yet and still, there is still a community here screaming no oils and butters, but I keep saying it works for me 🤷🏽‍♀️. I love a good wash and go, but I also like twists and braids with my own hair. It’s refreshing to hear not just about the drama that was going on, but also topics and haircare practices that could affect my hair. I know a lotttt of stylists who only wear wash and go styles, and preach the no butters and oils.. But I know MY HAIR and she loves it. Again, I can’t thank you enough for this timely and relatable conversation and education. 🎀🎀🎀

@Jazzerbean

The BGC ladies, who stand by curly cuts, probably didn't want people to make the connection that severe splitting/damage was potentially happening to their own clients since Rosie and Shelly V hair had setbacks due to curly cuts. Even if the BGC girls were not outright blamed, they wanted to avoid having to explain how curly cuts are not the best way to remove damage. Admitting that would mean they can't make their bread because I don't believe them two know how to properly assess hair if all they know is curly cuts. No one would want to book with them or any stylists trained under CIK if it was (and has been) revealed that curly cuts are just not suitable for hair maintenance or length retention. Further down in the comments of this video Rosie stated that the dodging and nasty behavior from the BGC ladies and any stylist who backs them up boils down to greed monetarily wise. I wholeheartedly agree; refusing to give some insight, take blame, and refusing to rectify the problem just screams unprofessional and unethical. Unfortunately, their clients and anyone who follows them and have questions or concerns are gaslit into believing that they are not doing something right in their routine or not following the methodology properly, when really it's the way CIK stylists go about cutting or "maintaining" hair. As Shelly touched on, it doesn't make sense how one can invest in the recommended products, follow the CIK methods, get curly cuts for each salon visit - all of which is supposed to yield beautiful healthy hair - but it looks like the hair was severely neglected when blown out or straightened? 🤔 Anyhow, they simply don't know how to achieve shape and cut off damage when the hair is blown out/straightened on their clients' head. They need to go back to school or watch some videos on KZbin. Them having a business is laughable because they are so inept at their job. Like, I'm blown away at how ignorant the ladies actually are about natural haircare. It's almost on par with how ignorant and stubborn Cyndoll a.k.a "Cynthia" was (and still is in my opinion).

So I do wear wash n go's 85 percent of the time. I go back and forth between curly cuts and blow out trims. Has anybody used the Aphogee Leave in under a gel or foam? And I want to add that I didnt have any damage from the curly cuts except uneven ends like stated in the video. I will say I didnt use the BGC suggested products. I used a leave in, deep condition and did protein treatments. I agree with everything in the video, you have to use products for your "hair".

i’ve used it under gels and it works very well for me since it’s a lightweight spray (i’m assuming you mean the pro-vitamin leave-in?) it also is nice for prepping the hair for the stylers since it has good slip from the amodimethicone

I have to have a moisturizer with it. But the moisturizer interferes with these ‘1-step-glycerin-for-the-second-ingredient’ stylers that brands just love to make these days. So I’m still at the drawing board for that one. Gonna try the pro-vitamin, oil/butter-heavy spray leave-in, and bee girl custard when the school year is over. Doing weekly twists atm. So the interference doesn’t really matter.

I commented that this is disingenuous advice because the field of dermatology is super inaccessible especially if you're trying to find someone that knows black hair. I wasnt suggesting that ppl not try... Moreso for them to not suggest it as if it was that easy. Girl... You wouldve thought I was talking about their moms son. I was like oh yall just rude af. No offense, and this could be seen as" self hating "/ anti black but whatever: as someone with naturally dull hair, the fact that the curl mix products dont produce much sheen and tend to make a lot of kinky coily naturals washngos look ashy, made me alway not want to buy them...especially since they are kind of pricey. Ive found product combos that make my hair shinier and just as defined so....

@@smokeyfan basically any botanical gel and the doux mousse. I like mielle curling custurd since by its self it, it already produces lots of sheen. Uncle funkys with the doux (a favorite of BGC tbh) is another good one. Also, mielle custurd with wetline extreme gel; just make sure you use the leavein under too cause the wetline. If you want to avoid the no oils/butters damage, maybe at least use a spray leave in conditioners (aphogee vitamin water, alikay naturals, or texture ID) under the other combos I mentioned. Lol At least if you're going to do WnG often.
