Flight to quality and a reconsideration of need vs price. So many options at all price levels, but it's important to know what really works for oneself to know which products require a bigger spend sometimes.

Yeah I think that’s it. I respect the brand and think it’s good, but I don’t even bother looking because I know it’s more than I’m willing to pay for makeup. I own one fenty product that I got from TKMaxx, it was half its original price and still a splurge. I think for a while certain types of makeup lovers felt like it was a flex to have spent a small fortune on makeup, but that’s faded a lot and many people don’t have money. I also think many of the 2017-19 makeup lovers have probably gone from teens and/or young adults with a lot of disposable income to *adult* adults who maybe have more responsibilities and less time, who need to budget things over high end beauty products that realistically can be bought much cheaper.

Especially given some brands manufacture scarcity by intentionally stocking a small amount of product. And/or saying it's limited edition. Fenty's products are staples for most people so they probably don't need to order low and reduce themselves to gimmicks to get sales.

I think nowadays people think a brand is dying or 'boring' when they launch something and it's not immediately sold out or goes viral instantly. that's not really a sustainable goal to go viral or sell out EVERY time you launch something new. Ofcourse fenty sold out those first years, it's because they where new and it was rihanna! Now I feel like fenty has found it's flow and has established it's place in the beauty world and the need to constantly have the next greatest product isn't the goal anymore. Idk I just hate the way influencers/ people online act like a brand is failing if they don't hit max profits or come out with something new every week. I like it when brands take their time to think out a product and make sure it's good before launching it. It could just be me but when a brand launches something new every week I kind of get overwhelmed about how many choices I have, like with colourpop I get stressed out because they have so many collab launches that I just don't know how to choose and want to buy it all.

Yeah, this is my thoughts. Did it really flop, or did it just not do the initial buzz numbers? We don't know enough about the behind the scenes to say whether those numbers are actually bad or just... stable. It reminds me of people being surprised that benefit are still around because the Internet doesn't talk about them that much. But benefit must be doing stable numbers, and they have those products that people - and especially those who wear makeup but aren't involved with the online beauty community - come back to again and again. I think being in the community, we kind of have a problem of seeing the forest for the trees. We think because these companies aren't being talked about by creators, aren't having tiktok viral moments, they must be in trouble. But beauty creators are such a small part of the "forest", so to speak.

As a black woman who is consistently in the transition between medium and deep that a lot of brands jump over and also not being very warm or neutral (sometimes have to add blue color corrector to my foundations), it is hard to find a good match if it even exists in a lot of very popular and "inclusive" brands. One thing I know though is that even if I want to try something from different brands, I will always be able to go back to Fenty to find both quality and foundations that actually work for me in both the winter and summer. I cant say that about all brands. I think Fenty is just going to continue to be a staple that you can always go back to, kind of like how Mac is. That's especially true the darker your skin is.

I don't think people are bored with Fenty, I think it's just that the brand has been around for 7 years now, the novelty of celebrity makeup/skincare brands has worn off and many of Fenty's products are seen as staples. I think people now think of it as more of a brand for those staples like their foundation. I think people are also just generally tired of makeup brands in general as we've seen in the last few years people are moving away from makeup and going for skincare and fragrance instead. Add to the rising cost of living, and makeup getting more expensive, when people buy makeup now they're more likely to go for drugstore brands rather than more premium brands like Fenty.
@montananerd8244

Exactly! I buy most of my color makeup on the cheap, but I do invest in a few key products that are higher end. I don’t watch videos about them, I don’t buy related items, I just order as needed over and over. And as long as that product is available in the same formula, I prob won’t try other options. I’m not wasting $40 on tinted moisturizer I might not love, I’ll stick to my fave as long as I can. And creators are incentivized, directly and indirectly, to focus on new things or heavily marketed products.

Yep this is it. I used to exclusively shop at sephora for makeup. It took me feeling the financial strain caused by the recession and inflation to realize that the majority of the makeup I use can be bought at Walmart. And the quality is just as good. Things like eyeliner and mascara are honestly something I would *never* buy high end again. It's a waste of money. The only thing I still have to buy from a more expensive brand is BB cream and eyeshadow

I think it’s important to keep in mind that Rhianna’s “lull” is actually maternity leave. She’s having her kids right now, it’s wonderful that she’s not working full blast. Kids need their moms and or dads esp when little, I don’t like it when successful people leave their kids with nannies like it’s normal to put money and fame first. Let’s support celebs who work less when their little ones need their attention. That said, I can’t afford fenty lol.

No one is bored with Fenty and even though her shade range in phenomanel, she markets to a specific demographic. People of color. A lot of White owned brands focus on eyeshadaows, brow and lip products where most black women focus on skin care, foundation, lip balms and very natural looking skin (Unless it's a special occation) Hense why Rihanna focuses on foundations, skin care and and looking fresh and glowy. I think she puts out products that she knows will be staples in people's collections and that's why she focuses on skin and healhty skin. How many eyeshadow declutters do you see? A lot, but with Foundations people tend to keep because when they find something that works they will keep rebuying. Rihanna knows what she is doing.

the Fenty Beauty x Mischief MAKEUP OR KETCHUP collab really put a bad taste in my mouth bc Fenty was also promoting itself as eco-friendly specially with their refillable lipstick and that Mischief collab threw that away, it was sO wasteful the HUGE red box for like 6 tiny ketchup/gloss bags which were basically unusable. Made no sense at i was like 30 euros too! waste of money, waste of material, complete waste of time

As long as Fenty keeps making that contour stick in Amber Suede, they will ALWAYS be a part of my makeup routine. But I totally agree in the sense that they don’t have much of an online presence anymore and they’re definitely not shoving new products down our throats every week. I really appreciate that though because I’ll admit, I’m so over brands that are completely, 💯 relying on paying these influencers and sending them on these lavish trips to overly hype up every single product they come out with, regardless of whether or not it’s a good, solid product. I think while Fenty, like every other brand in 2024, definitely does their fair share of sending out PR to influencers and all that, they don’t seem to have a problem with allowing their products to speak for themselves.

My two favorite makeup brands are Fenty and Haus Labs, and I think part of the reason they're so good is because the spokespeople know how important it is to have lasting makeup. We don't all have to be Colour Pop 😂

As an MUA the inclusivity of the shade range is actually lacking. There are zero pink undertoned foundations. It’s frustrating to my clients because we then have move to other brands that may have a better foundation range but not a concealer range. The fenty foundations are different undertones of yellow, gold, and olive. Zero pink. And for my rosy complected clients it’s unmatchable. I think it’s due for a reformulation on the “cool” shades. 😉 would love love to see that!

@@hotpinkcrayolas lol. It’s fine for warm or some olive under toned skin but if you have any pink in your undertone it’s not the best. I think Haus Labs did a better job with their undertones with their reformulation. But I do applaud Fenty for leading the way. 😉

This makes sense. I’m a medium dark skin olive and can find foundations for winter/summer but most brands once they get to just before my depth, they stop making olive shades (if they have any at all anyway) as if darker skin people are only warm, cool, or neutral. It’s hard to find a good match even in the “inclusive” brand’s without adding blue color corrector to my foundation. If they don’t make good pinks I can understand that frustration when you’re just trying to find a good match.

i only buy fenty for so many things. as black woman with a medium deep skin tone with golden undertones, it has always been hard to find products before fenty. almost all my base products are fenty. i liked rhianna before then but now i truly admire her. i think late stage capitalism has people thinking brands need to release weekly. i think her brand is in it for the long haul.

Now that they have brought back a similar foundation to what I initially liked, I am not moving back to the Brand because I’ve moved on. It literally has nothing to do with who owns what brand.

Go work 100% in a flowershop then 30% at MAC. SO I removed my makeup after 10:30-11 PM. I havent found something until now. The new Soft'lit naturaly radient foundation. My skin looks SO good now! Fenty cant be going downwords! Ive struggeled for years to find a true hero foundation for me! Im so pale pink skinned! Between Fenty 110 and 150. I only use the Amber matchstick too for countour.

i remember when fenty launched, i literally went to the mall before it opened to get products. i never did that with makeup before, and still haven't!! like yes, rhianna was a huge part of my interest but the inclusivity of the foundation shade range was what sold me. at the time i was shopping exclusively cruelty-free so mac and nars weren't options i went for, plus the undertones just weren't as good for my (extremely lol) pale skin. it felt so good to find a shade, and have shades wayyy too light for me, and to know that people with deeper skin tones were FINALLY being represented. it's hard to replicate that feeling. even though i don't buy fenty a lot anymore since i don't wear foundation much and ever since covid my love for liquid lipsticks hasn't been the same (plus cheaper alternatives for other staples like mascara), i still have a lot of love and respect for it. i don't think fenty will go out of business because riri isn't releasing music/revolutionizing things, despite the "meh" feelings a lot of people have expressed.

@@sagwa18 I'm not sure if they have changed it or not but the mica they were sourcing was unethical/sourced from child labor. I can't get down with that especially since it's suppose to be cruelty free. Cruelty free should not test on animal AND not use child labor. Not so much a controversy, but for me personally it doesn't sit right with me that she has a history of dating colorists. And finally her co-owners (LVMH) support Israel.

A lot of brands, such as Fenty, are so expensive. We’re in a cost of living crisis, so people might really want these items but simply have to settle for drug store brands (which can also be great) so that surely must impact on how brands sell and when brands decide to launch new products. Maybe they’re recognising that people are settling for the basics just now, with the odd luxury now and then.

As a black woman, I'll never lose interest in this brand. It is one of the very few brands where all around the world you can find shades for darker skinned women. I live in Lisbon, and every time I walk into a sephora, the only brand that has the range of shades that darker skinned women need is Fenty. Other brands are there also but are maybe way more expensive or the range is quite limited. We have some MAC stores as well but those are few and far between in town. I also know of black women who live in countries like South Korea where dark shades are nonexistent but because Fenty sells there, they are able to find their shade. The only downside, however, that keeps me from purchasing at the moment is indeed the prices and the current economic situation. If it wasn't for that I'd buy a lot more from Fenty, it's the first make up brand that I research when looking for products but sadly I find I'm unable to afford it at the moment so I go for the drugstore brands.

Weird. Did people not get the product they expected? It's on you if you buy things just to support a parasocial relationship. They're not your friends. Buy stuff you want. Don't buy things only to "support" a celebrity/influincer. That's absurd. If you believe in the product and got what you were promised then you got what you paid for. You don't owe anyone anything more than some polite gratitude if they bought your stuff.

@ZZ-qy5mv as someone who doesn't support influencer brands, I largely agree with you. My issue with Nikkie Tutorials is that she spent years on YT, gaining followers (or would be customers) and being one of the few influencers to actually stick to their once a week posting schedule, only to completely ditch YT knowing full well that's where her audience is and why she even has a successful brand just feels wrong. Maybe she doesn't owe them anything other than polite gratitude as you say, but maybe she owes them the success of her entire brand and career?
