I used to work there and I think their downfall was from trying to expand too fast. They started opening stores all over the southeast US. Moving way too fast

Worked for them for 8 years. Single reason they went under was Sam Johnson. Exec who helped run Sears into the ground before Gregg's hired him.

Now that I think about it, I am from Indiana and I have never seen an ad or an hhgregg store. But I am pretty sure that we had an hhgregg store in my town but then it got shut down and they built a new store there.

Trulor Same here, around the end of the stores life, I never saw an ad for it. My local store had some INCREDIBLE deals within the months leading to its closing. Like my Sony SRS-X2 was $20 (originally $100), and my House of Marley Chant Mini was $15 (originally $50). Both were new when I bought them too. So you could imagine how sad I was when I heard they were closing. And of course it's always sad when a local business closes. Thanks for the comment!

Rebekah Palmer I'm sorry. I knew a really nice guy at my local hhGregg a few years back. Every once in awhile I wonder what he's now up to. It's really sad seeing it go.

HH Gregg had HORRIBLE service both in-store and delivery wise. I hadn't shopped at HH Gregg in over three years.

Lora Coggins I'm thinking its because the name HHGregg was sold to another entity and they decided to reopen it. That's my only explanation. I haven't done any reseach so I don't know for sure.

They were unable to compete with Best Buy. I never saw their stores as crowded as Best Buy is. My local store had opened in the building that was formerly Circuit City. Like Circuit City, they paid their employees based on commission. HHGregg was much smaller than Best Buy

Davin Peterson that’s not why they closed. I worked for them for years till the final days. And I can assure you, hhgregg didn’t close due to competition. They closed because on the corporate level, bills were not getting paid. Vendors and manufacturers and even local and federal taxes were being neglected. Hhgregg closed because the ones that sit on the top stopped caring and decided their pockets were more deserving of the hard earned money from the employees than the actual employees. Hhgregg gave up and sold out the workers who kept that company alive for as long as it did. And it’s a shame too. My heart goes out to all those hard working men and woman. We tried to keep it open. But it’s not always enough to break your back.

fatprincess45 I agree! The only reason I ever went into HHGregg is because they were having some really good sales on things in the months before they closed, other then that, I was always on Newegg, Amazon, at Frys, or Best Buy!
