Apparently they do have a way to view in chronological order. You have to click on Instagram on your homepage and click following and you get chronological order! Its not permanent so you have to do it every time you log on. My friend just showed this a few days ago.

The evolution of Instagram is interesting. It used to be advertised as a digital photo album, where you post memories and holidays etc. No one really understood how to use hashtags as well. It has evolved from photo sharing, to content creation. Specifically, it has shifted from sharing photos for yourself, to targeting posts to an audience. It's interesting, because it has become less personal, and more business. When people upload a photo/ reel, it's not about making it for yourself, it's about making it hit the right target demographic.

I think this shift was inevitable. “Keeping up with the Joneses” predates Instagram and is a reflection of something innate to our hearts; keeping up with the kardashians is a spin on that phrase, so it’s funny that Kylie is canceling the platform. Some people are tired of being made into consumer products, others aren’t and will continue to use Instagram to put food on the table. And who can blame them?

Instagrams biggest problem on top of the constant ads and people popping up on my feed who I don't follow is the way they are forcing people to perform socially out of fear of getting no engagement. Most of the small accounts I follow talk about how there's a million things to do already and now apps especially Instagram are forcing you to make reels and do extra stuff just so you don't fall off the radar. It's stressful and nobody wants to use an app where posting feels like a chore and there's incentive to force you to make videos and use certain audios.

We’re never getting chronological order back and here’s why: I feel like when they saw how much money people were able to make off of it that they weren’t able to get their hands in, they decided to take away chronological order. People knew what times to post things so it could get the most engagement and they were getting sponsorships that instagram had no way of getting a cut of. So their “solution” was to take it away completely so you’d never know when or even if someone would see your post. When they announced it coming back they spun it like this was something brand new that they app had never had before when it had had it for years. Unless they can figure out a way to make money from people who do sponsored posts, they’re just going to keep teasing it and never see it. I could be wrong but I feel like these problems only started to happen after facebook bought instagram. They stole Snapchat’s key features because they wouldn’t sell to them and really thought that they could do the same to TikTok and tank their app too. I guess instagram isn’t making them enough money so they keep trying to find ways to make more money and only alienate their users even more.

I think another reason they remove the chronological feed is because when it was chronological there would be a point where there wasn't anything else to see and it would say "You're all caught up". But if you are dependent on ads you want to increase the amount of time that people can scroll on the app. You can now scroll for an unlimited amount of time on your timeline along due to the content being non-chronological, ads, recommended posts/reels. That increases the visibility of ads = more money.

Actually the more content creators make money from sponsors the more IG makes money. Aka more engagement for content creators = more engagement for IG from users who engage with those content creators. This way they're able to place more ads when they know exactly which content creators get the most engagement. Especially on stories.

When I got around to downloading the app, I'd only ever used the desktop version before (plus an adblocker)... Of 100 posts on the app, only about 20 were from accounts I followed. I dropped Instagram 2 years ago because I just didn’t want to support zuckerberg anymore (I had dropped Facebook in 2011) so I can’t really speak to how they implemented Reals but it seems so misguided to me. I’m just gonna say it ya’ll. I know we’re all getting older, and I know tik tok is the new generations version of the hot new social media app. But if someone brought back myspace (or something similar to myspace), I would LITERALLY dump instagram so quickly. I miss myspace so much. Tom was my boothang! 😘

I’m a YT stan. Lately haven’t been on IG that much and it’s more to do I guess with who I’m following as I finally realized I don’t know and shouldn’t care about these folks trying to fake it until they make it on my “views/likes” and basically got disinterested. Not interested in TikTok, never ever been on Facebook, Twitter don’t know last time. Like you said, folks like what they like and YT is it for me. Those that I subscribed to and no longer post, simple I unsubscribe to them no biggie as they just made room for someone else. When it’s all said on done, all these apps will fade after the next new app comes out and trust me it’s coming, but I’ll still be watching YT

Lack of chronological order is annoying and reels from people I don't know or like. You tell them you don't want to see reels or anything from an account or audio and yet... also with so many people I follow I don't see their content at all or until days/weeks later. Also I remember Snapchat lost a lot of money because they decided to play with Rihanna and she called them out. They had some poll making light of the DV between her and CB.

Instagram should have never been sold to Meta they ruined it. Between the reels and the ads it’s annoying. I had actually deactivated my Instagram for a solid 4 months and didn’t miss it I only went back because folks wanted to share things with me there lol. I check it maybe once a week. I will however never join TikTok sorry nothing owned by China will I support. My younger niece uses Snapchat so it’s getting used by young folks. I probably use Snapchat 6 times a year. Lol

Allll truth. I’ve said that since 2018. FB SCREWED UP IG the moment they bought it. The only good feature FB added was Stories. And I was on TikTok for only a few months. Theres a LOT of shady stuff with that app. Too many countries are banning it to not take notice 👀👀 Oh and I’ll add the other good thing is that IG made the app look more eye catching. That’s it tho.

Glad you pointed out the China thing. There’s no telling how they’re using or planning to use the data they’re gathering. People have been expressing concerns about it lately with the latest privacy policy update.

Instagram feels like one huge ad. I just want to go back to the days that I’d log onto Instagram and feel fomo. The ads feel like one huge virus. Click on a few too many ads and now your explore page is just ads…

Tbh I hate Instagram now 😂 I only use it to look at trendmood, neighborhood talk, shaderoom. Then to keep in contact with friends. Other than that. I can care less.
