The fall off Odd1sout for me was just his loss of genuineness. As he gained popularity, he pandered more towards the KZbin sqeaky clean vidcon scene. A lot of youtubers go through this, but it was sad seeing this from him. He is more corporate now

Yea, but I think some of his videos are still entertaining, but they've never made me laugh as much as they used to. Honestly hoping he doesn't make a video addressing it, since I think youtube has already been taught its lesson that apology videos usually only add fuel to the fire, even if its a small one.

I think it started off as the old animated storytime youtubers ran out of stories to tell. Theodd1sout literally predicted this in one of his older videos, where he said that he will eventually run out of life to talk abt. I noticed his content now is rather lackluster, and he seems rather pessimistic and grouchy in his newer videos compared to how joyful and relatable he was in his older videos.

that's surprising how someone can actually run out of things to say about themselves lmao. yeah yeah, there are things he shouldn't be saying for privacy etc, but that man can't even lie / come up with new entertaining stories and his artstyle STILL hasn't gotten any better. he doesn't have storytelling skills. he doesn't have art skills. he's too afraid to make any joke that's remotely funny. he's washed. but he doesn't notice that because youtube's been making him rich since forever.

I think this is why jaiden is the only one I actually like watching still. Jaiden continues to have new experiences and do mote stuff as she leans into pokemon, the vtuber scene and hatsune miku. She's branching out and doing more niche things. Whereas most other creators didnt seem to lean into anything like that.

daft complaining about jaiden venting through her animation about her eating disorder, a condition known to kill people, for "too long" while pausing a second after every word is so hypocritical that i have trouble actually acknowledging that he downplays the mental illness that was the main subject iirc. to be more specific anorexia which is well known to not only kill (5% of sufferers die within the first 4 years, 20% of all anorexia patients in total die regardless of the amount of time) but shorten peoples lives by years. he puts emphasis on how shes "wanting praise for getting past her mental issues" in regards to a illness that is considered as physical as it is mental due to the fact that it involves *physically starving yourself* to the point that it affects your overall bodily health.

I mean I think it was really bizarre for Jaiden to put that video up instead of seeking help. I don't think any strangers online needed to know about that. @@mariettelafferty8774 thing is, stories can't die, everyone can relate to stories, i think just the biggest creators need to be replaced with newer unique ones, the biggest ones lost their relatability and became corporate-like. maybe someone, someday with unique art, storytelling and experiences will rise this community back from it's ashes and inspire others leading to another wave, it only takes one person, theodd1sout despite not being the first storytime animator, he made the first huge wave, closest analogy is similar to minecraft's waves somewhat, we've seen minecraft explode in mid 2010s, fall off, then explode again in 2020, just to fall off again from oversaturation.

I too realized the decline of that type of content, i miss it, but in a way, i grew out of it. Well that and you realize that the stories they tell only go so far till they run out. At first it was interesting because they had so much life that makes them unique, now they've exhausted the stories they can tell, they need more "life" to tell more stories. It became boring or mundane compared to the interesting stories they used to tell. I still love and respect them and their content, but in the end, it's life we grow up, and so do they and that's fine

This was a really good video. I remember when I was much younger, probably in my late middle school years, I was so hyperfixated on the storytime animation genre as a whole, to the point where I frequently sketched myself as one of those animators and planned out some ridiculous channel names. It's really bizarre to see how much the environment has changed since then, and I think the way you put it really put it into perspective: "Eventually you just kinda run out of stories to tell". I'm now about to go into college, and while I still very much have a desire to become an animator, I think I've finally moved past the desire to make this branch of content.

Thank you for the tribute to the end. I almost thought you didnt wanna add that because of KZbin censorship but I am so happy you remembered TurtleAmigo as someone who struggled with severe depression, I am touched by this. Speaking of depression, one of Spechie's videos that did angered many was her Depression video which basically had her give a lot of misinformation about depression and if memory serves, I believe she diagnosed herself with depression but Im glad to know that shes gotten a proper diagnosis and is doing better. This video has gotten me to remember the time where I wanted to do the same things the STAs did but life got in the way and veered me to another direction which Im much happier in. I learned a lot of stuf I didnt know such as the other smaller and lesser known people in the Kindegarden. I hope they are doing well despite their absence. Thank you for making this video. It helped me remember how I loved the STA genre and you even informed people that it wasnt Jaiden or James who started this genre but Swoozei and Domics! Speaking of James...he just released a funko pop of himself. I felt strange seeing it seeing how much he's changed since I first found him thanks to his older deleted videos. And let me give my two cents about James deleting some older videos: Since James is already a much more public figure, he needs to keep his image clean so that he and his team can keep evergreen opportunities such as sponsorships and project collaborations from being a regular thing rather than have these entities see James as a controversial figure that's a risk to invest in. I'm saying this since I am acquainted with those who want to attract bigger brands to help sponsor a creative collective and the higher members say that staying family friendly and clean will increase the chances of great collaborations to appear for the group.

I wouldn't say there was a "downfall" of the genre. I think it's just one of those types of youtube videos that aren't watched or talked about as much as they used to be. Sure, some storytime animation youtubers are still kicking to this day with great success, it's just that the genre isn't as popular as it was in the past.

The thing about story time videos is that a lot of people run out of story times. Not everyone can have a constantly interesting life. These channels stop uploading story times since the way have nothing left to tell. That’s what I noticed with Jaiden, she transitioned to gaming content and hasn’t uploaded any story time videos in years. Which makes sense, she’s told all the stories she’s comfortable with and she’s now an extremely rich person, she doesn’t actually even have to do anything interesting in her life anymore. She could just play games, hang out with her close friends and that’s it. That’s why so many channels are so volatile, a lot of peoples lives are boring, a couple of crazy things might happen to you, and some interesting other things might happen too, but most people live “boring” lives, they aren’t always finding a date, or doing something fun.

Great video. I was rly a fan of storytime animation as an adolescent. I think it was due to wanting to hear about other people's life and story back then. When the pandemic hit, it felt like storytime animation suddenly stopped & some just venture out. I believe that vtubing could have their influence, cuz at that time they blew up; even some Story Animators went to Vtubing. Also wait wat, Fox Goodman & Matt Spicer are still uploading even to this day? This is nuts. 😂

I stopped watching James a while ago and it was for two main reasons. The first being is inconsistent upload schedule (which this one is understandable considering the production value is much higher than his past videos) and second being he just kind of feels corporate safe now. Back then even though James still had a script it still felt like he wasn't talking from pre-written lines but from his own mind. Now it feels like the stuff he talks about too the jokes that he makes all feel deliberately placed and pre-established and it just comes off as inauthentic for me personally. Don't get me wrong though I'm not trying to say that I hate him or I despise him... more so I'm just saying it feels like he cares more about being appealing than authentic

I started watching storytime animators like JaidenAnimations and TheOdd1sOut in the summer of 2019, and honestly, they helped inspire me to pursue a goal of owning an animation studio and making videos like them. I'm still an inexperienced artist and animator, but I am working on a channel introduction and will post storytime animations in the future. Even if the storytime animation genre is past its prime, those videos look fun to make, so I will just make them as a fun little thing to do. If they get successful, that'll be awesome. If they don't, that's ok. I also plan on making lots of different types of videos on my channel, both animated and non-animated, because I have a lot of interests and it might ensure longevity. I like that you put YoonToons as an example of a popular storytime animator in this day and age. I really like her videos.
