I think I was down in your part of WI on Monday. I was around Kaukauna picking up a new DR650. It was 50 degrees that day, and a couple of people out cutting their lawn.. Up here in the woods, closer to Lake Superior, it was snowing and below freezing. Right now, it's -9 f. The first project will be to add a pigtail for a battery maintainer. Maybe I can get it done this weekend when it will be closer to freeing and not below 0. I enjoy your videos.

Regulator/rectifier was the culprit in my DR, stock regulator can't keep up with all the accessories and isn't really optimal for lithium batteries if memory serves

I heard from a guy who owned DR's a lot longer than me that it's not the accessories but the LED bulbs that cause the stock regulator to fail. Mainly the headlight. He said the the shunt style regulators suffer when we save power by switching everything to LED so we should move to a MOSFET style if it fails. I don't know enough about regulators to know if that's true or not.

Ice! Already? What a difference it makes being in Texas. We have already gotten cold a few times but nothing like ice. I have watched you and a guy from Australia today. Australia is in the beginning of summer and you are in winter and I am somewhere in between. Ice and snow riding is a blast. Give us more. This video reminds me I need to go check all my bikes for batteries being out of juice. Texas on the prairie

Haha yeah dead batteries seem to be a bit of a theme, but they are a good excuse to go out and play in the yard! I'm still fascinated by how different the weather is all over the world at any given point in time, pretty amazing! It's actually looking a bit more like winter now here after the new snow today! As soon as I can make some time, I'll take you guys out for a ride in it!!! Take care!!!

All my bikes I build, I put an 8 guage pigtail for a battery tender...heavy enough to boost right from there. I have a cable to fit it and 2 alligator clips to attach a battery to...car or bike. Then I have another plug that fits the booster unit that plugs into it and has the battery tender opposite and to plug into the bike end. The 8 gauge is heavy enough to do the job....not seat removal required. I power the pump and accessories from this battery end. The wires with opposite ends are used in the solar panel industries....can get them 8 to 20 gauge. I buy the 3 ft length ones, 2 to a pack. I also use relays to power the live feed from the battery...... Garth

I have a DR 650 and a CRF 230 L, and live in Casper WY, so my winters get cold here. Both bikes are stock. I have Batt. Tenders on both bikes and put fuel stable in them in the winter. I fire the bikes up once or twice a month in winter months and so far have not had a problem with either. My DR is a '19 model and on the original Batt. and my CRF is an '08 and on it's 2nd Batt. if that tells you anything. I swear by both the Batt. Tender and fuel stable. Hope that helps.

Might have a small parasitic draw with that fancy NAV screen. Put an Optimate tender on it and never worry again. Also, ya gotta love steel kickstands for the old toe spin maneuver.

I am sure you will figure it out if it's a charging problem or not. For me, when I wired my accessory lights and trail tech voyager, I only use the switched power wires as a trigger for a relay and then a switch to ground the relay. That way the ignition switch and secondary switch have to be on for anything aftermarket and if they short out it won't blow a fuse that can shut off the bike. The relays have a fused wire that can't leave me stranded if something goes wrong. Once it's too cold to ride I take the battery out of the bike and leave it inside my house all winter.

That's an excellent idea! I was actually planning on adding a relay, or a switch, but both sounds like an even better idea!

Most gas stations in wisconsin have three grades of fuel and the highest octane typically dont have ethanol added
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions Күн бұрын
Looks like this has already been answered correctly. I usually go with 91 or 93 just to avoid the 10% ethanol in the lower grades but my gas station was out the last two times I drove past haha.

Just use Stybil or Sea Foam . Here in CT ethanol is all you can get for decades. I never have had any spring time carb issues in boats ,bikes , cars and lawn mowers. I had a boat sit for 2 years started right up when I sold it with stabil in the gas

Out of the three bikes because the TW is not included what bike is the lightest bike to ride and move around?
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions Күн бұрын
Hmmm, well the DR is the heaviest at 369 lbs. The XR is next at 346 lbs and the 701 is the lightest at 344 lbs (all wet weights). I think the DR probably feels the lightest, because of it's low center of gravity. Both the XR and 701 are lowered, and while I think I'd actually prefer the Honda on single track, I think the 701 carries it's weight lower, and therefore feels a tad less top heavy. Great question!!!
