It's been common knowledge for decades that game "journalists" and corporate media are bought and paid for. It's called 'access media' for a reason. Jeff Gerstmann famously left gamespot for this exact reason back in like 2007 or 2008 when he disliked kane & lynch, but his employer gamespot didn't like him expressing any negativity in a review because the publisher of the game had paid for ads on the site. The existence of giant bomb is down to him quitting and founding his own site for that exact reason. Driver 3 had bought and paid for reviews from "professional games journalists" all the way back in about 2003. The earliest reviews were all positive 9/10s, then it was later discovered that they had literally accepted money from the publisher for high scores. Then you have all the "gamers are dead" articles in 2014 and evidence that developers and 'journalists' had not disclosed their personal relationships which affected their coverage of said games. In the past year or so, many sites and companies have just been bought over by ziff davis/ign, so now eurogamer etc are all part of the same larger company. What a surprise then that they all parrot similar opinions. Even giant bomb, which was founded to get away from gamespot, is now back under gamespot's control. In this specific case, there's yet more evidence of paid-for reviews as DA content creators who previously expressed negativity about the game were not given review codes, but corporate access media were. If you still trust these websites and 'journalists' after all of that and more than two decades of dishonesty and controversies, I don't know what to tell you. There's a reason why on sites like metacritic, there's often a huge disconnect between ordinary members of the public and fanbase, and supposedly-professional critics.

It's getting exhausting at this point. I grew up playing many different Bioware titles like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. Hey BioWare you wanna know what showed the benefits of multiple cultures coming together? DRAGON AGE ORIGINS! The strategies from humans, elves, dwarves and mages and even werewolves with golems helped the endgame battle. And we got to see the politics in those cultures without being over the top or being so in our face. The dwarves politics; while annoying at times showed their culture and even the drawbacks of the caste system. And the big meeting in Denerim where you have to argue to get others on your side; using politics to your gain is still great. That was handled well. And Veilguard doesn’t really look like a DA game.

FYI Bioware studio founders left years ago. So did most writers behind Mass Effect, Kotor, DA Origins, etc. The new projects are done by completely different dudes The logo is the same but the workers are not.

Why even give dialogue options if the MC is just going to banter away most of the time? I have an issue with that before even starting on the terrible dialogue, shitting on the lore, and pushing political views.

@@threestars2164 That's called a linear experience. Which is not the kind of game people think of when they think of Dragon Age or Mass Effect. So no, you're dead wrong. This is an immersion breaking foolish decision within a stapled franchise known for what can be expected of it. Which only proves that the developers for this game had no idea what they were doing with it in the first place.

I guess the new Mass Effect game will be equally as bad. Old BioWare doesn’t exist anymore. Time to accept it and move on to other games and companies.

if you want to be cautiously optimistic, you could hope that when Queerguard flops hard, they'll make an abrupt about-face for Mass Effect. I'm not holding my breath for it though, Hollywood has been having flop after flop for the last 5-10 years and they haven't learned.

I'm not surprised. YT has been flooding me for weeks with accounts with absolutely no viewers worshipping the game as if it was second coming of christ.
