The Dragon Fruit Journey: What's the best soil?

Episode 6: I made a cheaper soil ideal for dragon fruit based on Gary's Top Pot Soild using locally sources materilas.
Ingredients:
33% Peat Moss
46% Perlite
17% Sand
4% Charcoal / Biochar
Total cost ~ $33 per 25gallon pot

Biggest Difference between perlite & pumice is pumice is permanent, perlite will break down n compact to dust 😉

Ah good advice! You know of any good (and cheap) pumice supplies on the west coast (if that's where you're near?) I couldn't find any :/

I can’t believe someone told you to use this hokey mix … you never use peat-moss … just use a good planter mix … cactus or palm mix is great. But expensive… you can use Pearlite but it wants to float to the top of your mix … why size#4 … just use size#2 … if you can find pumice always opt for using it instead of #2 Pearlite … charcoal… yeah but it’s not needed … sand … never use sand it will eventually fill in all of the nooks and cranny’s and prevent water drainage … not good … the aged chick you can get at Lowe’s is a good addition to your potting mix … never use fresh chicken poop … How many DF plants (tubs) do you have ? If the varieties you’ve chosen aren’t self pollinating you’ll never get fruit … go on KZbin and watch some of Kim Phan Dragon Fruit videos on how to collect and store pollen … glad to see some interest… but damn your going down the wrong learning curve road.

Kim uses Fox Farms and just names your onion flavored seedlings so she can sell them for $100 a cutting… Talk about the wrong path.
