Post season 3 everything kinda feels like a "first draft" to me. There's a bunch of good ideas, but it's clear that there wasn't enough time to flesh out the script. That makes sense: the first few seasons had a pretty basic main storyline which allowed the writers to polish it. Later seasons have a somewhat more complicated plot. They should have put the show on hiatus after season 3 and taken some time to do some writing in advance....

It's entirely possible, and even likely given the timeline, that that stage had already been completed for season 4 by spring 2020, when the pandemic hit. In animation, you can't do rewrites anymore once everything has moved to the storyboard stage. If not, then it's completely ununderstandable that nobody has taken a moment to evaluate. Yeah, they could have taken time for a first writing of season 5 back then. Weird that it doesn't feel as if they had/took that time.

I really liked Seasons 1-2. Loved Season 3. Season 4 broke my love and excitement. Season 5 was better, maybe just under 1-2 level quality and less eventful

I have to disagree about the dragon flying over the town just minding his business. It was an intimidation tactic. It's like if I point a bazooka at someone's house, and then when they get concerned, I say "Well it's just sitting there, I don't see what your problem is?" That dragon knew what he was doing and how it'd be perceived. That said though, this was pretty funny overall

I love this silly dragon show. It's so cute and I find many of the characters very appealing. Especially the vllains- Viren and Aaravos are a lot of fun. But even I find the generic high-fantasy battle scene in the end of season 3 pretty boring. Some of the more subtle things like what Viren's deal is are pretty well crafted. that gets explored more in the future seasons, too. However the context clues are already there in the seasons 1-3: why Viren and Harrow's relationship fell apart can be traced back to the fact that Viren is kind of a difficult asshat who values domination and control over peaceful solutions- both in his personal life and in politics. However why the king kept Viren around is pretty clear to me as well - like he's good at his job as a dark mage. Why king Harrow is fed up with him in the beginning of the show is that the consequences of using dark magic are finally catching up with them yet Viren is too stubborn to see that.

*spoilers* Yeah TDP has some major cornball moments, but it is a pretty decent show. I hope they explain more of the Harrow/Pip issue...I know in season 5 they drop more hints but damn! Also...remember the Moonshadow Elf blood drinking....well that gets paid off too with the Bloodmoon Assassins thing in S5. Also, remember Amiya is Deaf/Mute. That gets some real-life service in S5 too. I enjoyed your review! Keep it up!

Season 4 and 5 seem like they lost focus. Things just "seem to happen" as we go towards that vague goal of finding Aaravos' prison. You'd also expect Claudia and the "evil" gang to win at the end of season 5 cause, you know, heroes facing the darkest point before winning is kind of a staple of Western writing... yet that is not what happens.

As for you complaints for the last 3 episodes of season 3 Of coarse the Sunfire Elves were unsuspicious of Viren getting capture A. He's a human something they don't expect to completely fight back and B. He came by himself Also the end with Callum sprouting those wings Its far from an Ass pull, Callum simply let go and because of that he was able to fully harness the Sky arcanum

Nah my points still stand, A: he’s not just some human, he’s the king of Katolis so the queen is lowkey dumb for just writing him off and not considering why he just walked into their kingdom.💀 I also don’t expect them to know about Aaravos but they already know he’s a dark mage from looking into the light. B: you could say they didn’t know he could corrupt their source of magic which once again, makes this kingdom one big ass plot device. The kingdom didn’t become plot relevant until the show needed it to be. Their story was never interesting in the first place and only mattered when Soren needed to become Thanos. And I’ll be honest witchu gang, I don’t know if simply “letting go” is the right prerequisite to pull off a stunt like that😭. Especially when it was stated that spell could only be used by a select few Skywing elves, never humans. Yeah Callum defied odds once before by figuring out the secret to the Sky Arcanum, but they actually gave us an explanation to that which I strongly praised in the video. But I ain’t accepting some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse ass reason he was able to do that, especially when the show has shown me it was able to build up to interesting climaxes in interesting ways, shit’s just lazy. I don’t know how you classified the ending of S3 as a copy of Infinity War which it may be (I have yet to get myself in the marvel universe) but it is a way clearer copy of LotR (Lord of the rings), it is exactly the same on a way smaller scale. The nexus of Lux aurea corrupted is clearly a simile of the eye of Sauron, the army of dark is also a simile of the army of orcs etc. Either way, great summary and I believe the Dragon prince excels at world building but it lacks what it shines at writing.

They really want to have parallels between Ezran and Zym but like Ezran's mom died and they don't really address that with the themes between the two. aw man, watching this i realized how much i miss the old animation style 💔 like, sure, in season 4 and 5 they upped the framerate. but the lighting and expressions and weight isn´t that good anymore imo. also the rigging is painfully obvious sometimes. some movements look so awkward and unnatural... i mean yeah, the framerate in the first three seasons did make me cringe at times but the animation just had way more impact.

I feel like your rants towards Soren seem a bit far off. Sure in season 2 he set a small trap for the princes however it was obvious that is wasn't going to work at all The Dragon that was flying around was still dubious. So Soren reacted in a way that he was taught Soren is a guy who wants to prove his worth to his Father and so acts the way his father wants to act. Also more importantly he has doubts about what he is doing and questions if what he is doing is right

I really appreciate your input, I was waiting for someone with a different perspective on Soren to say something😭. Yeah I see what you mean, and I do believe Soren isn’t this big bad monster as I’m playing him up to be, his heart is in the right place. But I still have to be honest, he’s still the worst character in this show. I’m really just looking at it from all angles, I get the trap was supposed to be a joke, like some looney tunes shit. But apart from the fact it was shoddily-made safety hazard, it’s really all about intention, as a viewer you really had every reason to believe Soren built that trap expecting it to work and create an “accident” for Ezran. You could definitely argue deep down he didn’t want to but like you said, he wanted to his impress his father. How he truly feels about it is redundant if his actions tell a different story. People are still jailed and prosecuted for attempted crimes. He’s still not cleared from that whole dragon thing either, as a commanding officer or authority figure it’s your responsibility to make rational decisions in a high-stress situations, everything Soren did was very far from rational. You could make the point that Soren was just acting the way he was taught as a soldier and that means you could shift the blame to the kingdom for training him that way and naming him crownguard when he’s obviously still just a kid, but that still leaves a glaring issue that still hasn’t been fixed. Soren still never faces any consequences for his actions. I explained why that paralyzed thing doesn’t count when you can just magic BS your way outta that shit. I just never understood why every other character in the show always had to answer for whatever they did in some way, but never Soren. He’s just the one weak link in a show that knows how to write characters in a interesting and realistic way.
