Sergey Andreevich Vorontsov became the winner of the Russian Empire championships in Russian draughts three times. In pre-revolutionary Russia, the parties of masters were forbidden to record. One day three young Moscow masters decided to learn the secrets of the draughts game. They invited Sergey Andreevich to play with them. Sergey Andreevich agreed, but strictly forbade them to record their parts. The masters agreed, but deceived the old champion. One of the masters was standing at the door, peeking through the keyhole at the game, recording the champion's games. Sergei Andreevich once noticed this and punished them for cheating.
