T&H also films and releases original interviews with iconic people who have experienced successes, while also persevering through life's highs and lows. We look forward to sharing more of these perspectives and insights.
Our hope with these videos is to push your thinking. As Alan Watts said “No one is more dangerously insane than one who is sane all the time: he is like a steel bridge without flexibility, and the order of his life is rigid and brittle.” - Alan Watts.

+Northern Gardener the world is working hard on this, to lose their ability to recognize themselves, to observe themeselves, to questioning everything. "Many people, however, refuse to accept this, making excuses for their unhappiness, for their feelings of disconnect and loneliness in the world, prodding on through their daily activities, never striving for self actualization." And to run a life like this, that can only be bad for the whole world. for me, its a lack of information about how things really are.

10 years ago, I listened to this. One of my best friends told me to look up Alan Watts when I was going through a terrible time in my life and this was the first video that popped up. A decade before that i hadn’t shed a tear. I’ve came back to this speech every single year for the last 10 years to ground myself. I can confidently say this one simple video change my life, and I don’t care who believes it.

If you awaken from this illusion and you understand that black implies white, self implies other, life implies death (or shall I say death implies life?), you can feel yourself - not as a stranger in the world, not as something here unprobational, not as something that has arrived here by fluke - but you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental. I am not trying to sell you on this idea in the sense of converting you to it, I want you to play with it. I want you to think of its possibilities, I am not trying to prove it. I am just putting it forward as a possibility of life to think about. So then, let’s suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream you wanted to dream, and that you could for example have the power within one night to dream 75 years of time, or any length of time you wanted to have. And you would, naturally, as you began on this adventure of dreams, you would fulfill all your wishes. You would have every kind of pleasure during your sleep. And after several nights of 75 years of total pleasure each you would say “Well that was pretty great”. But now let’s have a surprise, let’s have a dream which isn’t under control, where something is gonna happen to me that I don’t know what it's gonna be. And you would dig that and would come out of that and you would say “Wow that was a close shave, wasn’t it?”. Then you would get more and more adventurous and you would make further- and further-out gambles what you would dream. And finally, you would dream where you are now. You would dream the dream of living the life that you are actually living today. That would be within the infinite multiplicity of choices you would have. Of playing that you weren't god, because the whole nature of the godhead, according to this idea, is to play that he is not. So in this idea then, everybody is fundamentally the ultimate reality, not god in a politically kingly sense, but god in the sense of being the self, the deep-down basic whatever there is. And you are all that, only you are pretending you are not.

I think black, and life, do not require white, or death Though death does by definition require life, (you can't die unless first alive) life does not require death, if this was true anything that is alive, at any point, including a creator, or eternal beings, must come to an end.

Chalchiuitlyollotl You must redefine what the word god means in order to reach that conclusion, God is not simply defined as a conscious being with the ability to affect itself and it's environment, which is what we are. Remember this, when you change the definition of a word, the connotations of that word change as well, taking away the actual importance the word brings to the statement.

Preston Ray No worries, we all have "wasted" time doing things in confusion. But the great thing with life is that time does not matter. Time only matters for the "ego" which is a product of time, but for life/death time can't be wasted. See it like this; these 15 years was important so that you can know that you were something that you don't wanna be, in order to know what you wanna be. It's quite a beautiful thing that we humans can have the experience of "closed mindness", look what the world is now, the shallow society that talks about things like materialism, who is best/who is not, all wars about nothing, our search to be famous and so on. All our history is this "shallow-closed-mind", and I guess it has been a thrilling experience for the human race. But now it's time to wake up for it does not serve us anymore, we are destroying the planet and ourself at greater and greater rate. Whatever happens happens, life always finds a way :)

I would say more, the most genius things that you have heard or will ever hear are not the things from other realities or other highly unreachable levels of consciousness. They are from your own thoughts, from the things that you already have inside your head, that is the real reason you accept them with pleasure and gratitude and happiness. You feel complete, because finally you understand that the beauty expressed by a genius has been living inside you for as long as you exist :)

The first time I saw this many years ago, I literally CRIED like a baby. NOT because I was sad, but because I realized right then, that I was capable of anything and everything that the system and the world has always taught us since birth we are NOT or NOT capable of doing/having/being. This is life changing for those who truly get this message and run with it!

Alan Watts was an singular voice, extraordinary, and who was as much a contradiction as was his westernized zen to the secular purists. He lived on a serene houseboat in Sausalito California, yet drove a gas guzzling Cadillac to his talks where he spoke often of giving up materialism and money to free one's true consciousness. He preached the body as the temple of being, yet downed vodka by the bottles ( no hangover with vodka to impede his Tibetan thoughts). He truly lived the yin and yang which makes him no less profound.

Exploration is what we all seek, its very prominent in children as their curiosity grows. We lose our desire for exploration as we get older, but deep inside it will always remain. The good news is that you don't need to travel the world to find yourself. I've spent the last year doing everything I've ever dreamed about (traveling), and my big discovery is simply to realize that we all crave exploration, but there are so many different forms of exploration. Exploration of locations is one, but there is also exploration of ideas, thoughts, relationships, philosophies, self, etc. Stop trying to make things happen, live life fully, notice and take all the opportunities is front of you. Life is a wild ride, and its a huge relief to realize that you are not in control of everything.

Does anyone else feel this way? Since a young boy I always felt that this life/experience/dream is just one of many infinite lives/experiences/dreams that we have always had, and we will continue to have forever. There is no start or finish. After death we will just continue experiencing other things/lives/moments/dreams. The next one may last a long time or a short time just like in our dreams when we sleep. Time is not important because it could be irrelevant or an illusion. These dreams go on for eternity. We were doing this before and we will do it again. In fact we are doing it now. It just feels like we aren't and that right now is special even thou this life is just one drop of water compared to all the other drops of water in this universe. We feel this life is our only reality but when we are in other experiences we will think these ones are now the real ones. What convinces me is our dreams. When dreaming do we even know it. For the most part no. Sometimes? maybe. But even in this life we think we could be dreaming. When I wake up in my next experience, I may be like... wow I knew if, that was a crazy dream, and poof its gone in an instant and I may forget this whole life in a second... Imagine going to sleep tonight and staying in a dream for a longer time? In this life when we wake up for our day we think that the dream was just a second. But put yourself back in there and look at your watch and do something like go for a walk. Now imagine if we stayed there for a while. Imagine if our mind/conscious/soul/spirit stayed in there instead of phasing/changing to another quick dream or waking into this life. That dream whether you like it or not was your reality at that time. Another question... Have you ever woke up and tried to go to sleep and go back into that. I have. Have I ever been to that same dream? I don't know. But what I do know is I have experience a very similar one to that dream. It was different yet the same. Were they the same? I don't think so. But they were connected. Just like they were connected to this life. All our dreams compound and exist because of all the other ones. Anyway I have no idea if this makes sense. I am just typing how I feel. Take care now and forever because maybe I am you and you are me and we are experiencing it one at a time just like Alan says!

This is another way to look at it, perhaps more technical and not as elegant: At a fundamental level we are all literally nothing less than the universe observing and contemplating itself. The universe is infinite, so if you understand this facts then why would you believe that you are anything less than what you are? So regardless of how it may appear, the idea that you are this limited finite being, that must be an illusion. Even if we look from a materialistic view, we see nothing but patterns of sub-atomic particles (or energy fields if you prefer). So it seems that life is this self replicating pattern that grows, changes, and when these patterns degrade beyond a certain point, life seems to end. However, everywhere we look in the universe we see that patterns repeat, and in an infinite universe they would inherently repeat infinitely. These patterns would naturally repeat in the same way, and also in every possible variation. So not only do we have every conceivable experience, we also have this same experience always. Everything that can exist does exist, and everything that can happen does happen. Our experience of time and space is an illusion, the only true reality is here and now in each moment. Some might say these repeating patterns throughout infinity are copies of us, but they are not the real me! To that I say what is it exactly that makes you who and what you are? Is it the atoms you are made of? Well you are a self replicating pattern, your body is constantly rebuilding and changing moment to moment. It is estimated that every ten years every single atom of your body is different. So the only real constant is the ever changing structure or pattern of you that is repeating throughout infinity. So what makes us who and what we are, our consciousness (or soul if you like) is the pattern. All those other patterns are also us, only we can only experience them one at a time (well sort of I suspect some intuition might be our consciousness glimpsing other realities) and life and death is actually an endless cycle with infinite possibilities. Your thoughts perception creates your reality from infinite possibilities, this is the inescapable truth we pretend not to know. This is why the message Alan speaks about is so powerful to those choosing to glimpse the abyss of reality, we intuitively see the truth in it.

The universe is not infinite. It is finite, expanding from a beginning which means even if it is growing larger, there is an end to the universe. This is totally inconceivable to us but that is what scientists agree
@ericmichel3857
@ericmichel3857 8 жыл бұрын
+Colin Schroeder What scientists are you referring too? Last I knew there was no evidence to this question but most scientists and philosophers I have read or heard seem to believe that most likely the universe is infinite.  These are the sorts of questions that go beyond scientific method and delve into philosophy. If quantum mechanics is telling us that space time is an illusion, then the idea that the universe actually has a beginning or an end would also be an illusion right? We can express every aspect of the universe mathematically right? So is there a limit to the highest or lowest number? You might find this article interesting: everythingforever.com/hawking.htm The newest development is that Hawking has recently realized that the no boundary proposal does not require the universe to be closed and finite, as he thought before. In a lecture Inflation; An Open and Shut Case, Hawking included the following statement....I thought the no boundary proposal, implied that the universe had to be spatially closed, and finite in size. But a few months ago, Neil Turok and I, were talking about his ideas on open inflation. We realized that they could be fitted in with the no boundary proposal. The universe would still be closed and finite, in one way of looking at it. But in another, it would appear open and infinite.

When people say only one group’s lives matter I say “no, all lives matter; yours, mine and everyone you have yet to even meet or hear” When people want to ignore history I say “you can’t ignore it, history happened. We can only learn to avoid it for a better future” When people doubt their existence in living... I don’t have an answer. We all die, we all grow old and go with the soil. Time continues forward and leaves everyone it can. But what I can say is that your life is, just like every single person, special. Whether it be the way you think, act, look or anything that makes you stand out, YOU are special. YOU have something to contribute. Maybe not something great like Hawking or Einstein but you are still special non the less.

I hope others can relate to this. But after many years of being miserable, and not knowing where life is going to take me. Being stuck in a depression, not wanting to wake up the next day. I’m finally starting to piece together what I’m meant for. What I want to do. I’m finally working towards the vision of life I always had. It wasn’t easy, and I still have a long way to go. But this journey is beautiful, and I’m finding peace within myself.

“What do you want to be when you’re older” Na fam, start asking, how do you want to live? When you choose a “job” the time you have with your family, the car, the house, where you live, your retirement age, and your choice to leave a legacy or not is chosen for you. I’ve met so many people (most of everyone we know) that work a “job” (aka a w2) and don’t realize that the corporate world is the biggest pyramid scheme ever lmao. Lemme make this short as I can. When you work a job like the most of everyone else, you work for someone. That someone is let’s say a “team leader”, then next a manager, next a branch manager, then the owner of the place, then the founder of the place. Guess what, they’re making money off of you and you’re building that persons dream. Go ahead (I fuuuucking dare you) and ask the person all the way up top, “how much money have I made you?”. I shit you not when you find out and look at your salary. You’d want to quit. When you get a job your life is already chosen for you. Car, house, where you live, how many kids you can properly support, time away from your family and friends, the work you take home, the stress, your vacation days, how much you can give to others, and most importantly your dreams are shrunk because you were told to think realistically. Guys please don’t stop dreaming, execute your childish dreams by being and adult and putting the work necessary. Get the mansions, luxury cars, yachts, private jets, helicopters, and most importantly imagine all of the things you can give to others because you didn’t settle to work for someone else and build their dream. Dream on my friends.

If only life was unpredictable, life just goes along the same, then every now and then, something shit happens, this shit becomes worse and more common the older you get and then it all stops. The earth and universe are amazing, and just to witness them makes the whole thing worth while, but the life we lead, on a daily level, is sooooo painfully predictable and boring, apart from the bad things that come along.

***** yeah, but only to a point, still have all the responsibilitys that life brings and all that you have to do to meet them,which leaves little to no time for anything else. My main point was that nothing good ever happens unexpectedly, always bad things do though. It`s just an observation over 31 years of my life and others around me. Life just seems like a slog for survival among beautiful surroundings lol but the universe and earth are where the wonder ends, you observe those with awe and then return to the mundane human existence.

***** Oh of course, i agree with you 100% on those points, i would describe western life in the exact same way if i was asked, but even when you count your blessings, the fact that we have it all yet don`t have the most important thing of all, freedom. Our freedom is an illusion, which i can tell by how you talk, that you already know this. So as you know. when you realise this fact, it`s often too late, as the people around you,your children and loved ones ect, are always going to be in the system, so you can`t leave it because if you do leave, you may have the freedom but you`re now lacking your loved ones. Of course, this trapping is exactly what this horrible system is designed to do. We`re supposed to live in nature in tribes, with nobody telling us what time to get up, when to eat and when to shit, sure we have to hunt ect, but it`s on our own terms, modern tribes people are very happy people, they don`t even have a word for depression in some of their languages, because they answer to no one, they`re truly free.
