The Dreamkeepers Tarot vs. The Tarot of Mystical Moments | A Side-by-Side Comparison

This is a side-by-side comparison of the Dreamkeepers Tarot by Liz Huston and the Tarot of Mystical Moments by Catrin Welz-Stein. I’ve been asked to do this video and I know some are trying to choose between decks. I’m really no help as to preference because while they are both dreamy collage decks, the collage work and color palettes for the decks are vastly different. I wouldn’t be able to choose, but I hope that a side-by-side will help you to do so!
Also, I tried to do something a little different and added music to the flip through portion of the video with no commentary. I hope you like Chopin! I apologize if the sound balance between portions of the video are slightly off. I’m learning 😁!

These are totally different decks: the Dreamkeeper Tarot has a nostalgic feeling to it... it feels romantic and a good balance of fantasy/dream-like essence grounded in an equal sense of reality. The Tarot of Mystical has a children’s book quality to it. I also love this deck but I’d say this deck is a bit more fantasy and less rooted in tangible reality. If I want to tap into my child-like intuition and “play” Is use the Mystical Moments but the Dreamkeepers represent my essence in my adult form. A bit heavy, a bit real, but a bit more like my actual dreams.

Thank you for this! Now that I see them both at the same time, I agree with you that they're very different. The names of these decks really fit the feel of the art. Dreamkeepers looks really dream-like. It looks like it has a filter over it. Like how my dreams are both very vivid and yet blurry at the same time (I don't know how to explain it). Mystical moments feels more like I'm inside a book or a movie. They're both so beautiful! I have to watch this a few more times before I can decide. 😅

I have Mystical Moments and I also wish they’re matte. They’re a bit slippery to shuffle. But the stunning imagery more than makes up for the cards being glossy. Also, the silver gilding doesn’t flake off-hope it holds up! ☺️

I love this comparison! I adore my Mystical Moments deck and I am in the process of mounting the four alternative Kings onto plaques to hang on the wall. I have owned and given away many decks over the years but have settled on 12 for my Readings. I also have a few Oracle decks. There were many cards in The Dreamkeepers Tarot that I loved, but what kind of jumped out at me was the few cards with 'headless' figures and I like to Read the postures, expressions, attitudes of the figures in addition to the traditional interpretations. I will check out your other videos!

Greetings from China! They’re both incredibly gorgeous! I ordered both after watching this comparison, and hope they can reach here soon. I totally agree with you that they are different. I resonate with Dreamkeepers more but feel TMM is more interesting. They are like two different types of “dream” for me. TMM gives me kinda “Alice Wonderland” vibe. BTW, Chopin matches these cards perfectly!

Hello! I agree with your assessment. I’ve had more time to work with the Dreamkeepers and have only had TMM for a short time, but the way the communicate is definitely different. I’ve used the Dreamkeepers for Shadow work. So far, the readings and feelings I get with TMM is similar to what I get with my Dame Darcy Queen Slice Deck, if that makes any sense. Both decks are great additions to any collection! Thank you for watching!

I can't thank you enough for this comparison! I was looking for artwork that I didn't have in my collection and these two decks came up in my search. I love bright and colorful art so I chose MM. But, Dreamkeepers kept haunting me. Every time I searched for tarot cards Dreamkeepers would be right there in front of me. I put it in and out of my cart more times than I can count. I would buy another deck and delete the Dreamkeepers because I already have, and love, MM. But I could never get Dreamkeepers out of mind and she kept showing up on youtube, fb, IG, in my tarot groups, in my tarot searches, etc. Finally, I bought her and she arrived last night. Wowowowow! You are absolutely correct. Dreamkeepers and MM are two totally different decks. They do not have the same vibe at all. Now I know why Dreamkeepers has been haunting me. She and I aren't meant to be together. Both of these decks are not my esthetic, at least I didn't think they were, but I'm so connected with both now. I had the same haunting with Vintage Wisdon Oracle and these 3 decks were made for each other. Thank you, again, for this thoughtful and perfectly (for me) timed video.

Awww, Michelle...thank you! I must admit I was a little disappointed with the glossy cardstock, but now I do think it suits the artwork and makes it pop for the TMM. I’m glad that the Dreamkeepers has the mate cardstock. Because a glossy finish just wouldn’t suit that deck. That Chopin piece....I new I had to have it for this video! It’s one of my favorite Chopin pieces and holds a place in my heart because my youngest son played it in a piano recital years ago. I was up with my husband until 3:30 am in the morning trying to figure out out to add the music and then stretch out a 4 minute piece to a 10 minute clip. It was a comedy of errors and I couldn’t have done it without my husband’s help!

I find that the Dreamkeepers Tarot has a more "head in the clouds" feel where Tarot of Mystical Moments is more grounded and vibrant. I just bought both of these decks on the same day lol! I went searching because I was thinking they were really similar! When you laid it out as you did, I could definitely see the difference! The Dreamkeeper's was much more muted and dream-like and I totally resonated when you expressed the elemental difference between the two. I can't wait to continue to connect with these decks and try them out in readings. I really appreciate how you said the Mystical Moments was more of a shadow work deck, that was very helpful! I bought the Tarot of Mystical Moments a few months ago and I absolutely LOVE it! 💘 It's the deck I use for ancestral work and it really speaks to me. I have just purchased the Dreamkeepers Tarot and I agree completely, it has a very different energy from TMM. I love it when they use serpents in the strength card. Simply because I have no association with lions. In my country, lions do not naturally occur and they are kept in zoos. Both beautiful decks. Great video!

Thank you for this helpful video! I agree these decks are very different. They both share a surreal quality but the execution is not the same. They are both beautiful. I chose "Dreamkeepers." I like the muted colors and misty overlay. I see what you mean about a watery, airy feel. It calls to me, with my Pisces Sun & Gemini Moon. I heard that the book is excellent and I love a rich guidebook. Tarot of Mystical Moments is lovely but I don't feel called to that one. To get free shipping, I also ordered "The Vintage Wisdom Oracle." I think they will pair well. Thanks again for the great review!

I'm so torn! I'm trying to decide which to buy and I love the darker mood of the Dreamkeepers, but on the other hand, the vibrant saturation of TMM attracts me, and I do get the comment of DK's images being a bit 'samey'. But! So many of the TMM cards are also similar to each other, so apples and oranges, like you said. Hmm. I think the deciding factor will be the comparison of my favourite cards, there are a few that I must have to have a certain vibe on (eight of swords being one of them). Thank you for this video!

Ok first of all LOVE that you chose Chopin! I grew up in a musical family and my sister is a pianist so Chopin is an old favorite! And I really enjoyed seeing these side by side. I like how TMM is easier to see...whereas DKT seems a bit unsharp I guess is the term I'm looking for so I have to really squint to make out what I'm looking at. Maybe that's part of the whole "Dream" quality? It could be different in person vs over video. I seem to think that, for me, TMM might win out for the ease on the eyes, the color palette, and the extra cards lol. Although, interestingly, I don't think I like the Oracle deck. I went and looked at it, and I much prefer the Tarot over the Oracle. Huh. Go figure! Thanks for this! Thank you! I love Chopin! I use to dance and Chopin always reminds me of partnering class! My youngest son always picked Chopin for his piano recital pieces because he knew how much I loved his pieces. Yes, both decks draw you into different dream worlds. The TMMare larger cards, so it is easier to see the images. I find that every time I use the Dreamkeepers, I notice something new in the imagery! But yes, definitely pick the one that makes you giddy!❤️❤️

I did a quick search on your channel and didn't see it, but it's that vintage collage and you might like it. It's been on my list for years, but I've never pulled the trigger. It's been out awhile. Thank you for mentioning the Vintage Wisdom Oracle and it is a favorite! I often use it with the Dreamkeepers Tarot. I haven’t done an unboxing of it because I got it long before I had a channel and there were already so many of them out. It has showed up in some of my collection videos, though. It’s definitely a favorite!

Hi. I know that they pulled up the contrast and colour saturation with the mass market version of the Dreamkeepers tarot but the cards still look a bit foggy, is it so? I noticed that the images were a bit croped with the new borders. Btw I love your videos. Thank you 🙏! I find the resolution of both decks to be about the same. I don’t find them blurry, but rather “dreamy” is what I would call it and I think it’s an artistic choice. The border on the mass market version is a tad bit larger and there are a few cards that may seem cropped…or the images have been brought up closer in. I have lovingly put away my indie edition and now use the mass market copy exclusively. I love both editions and think U.S. Games did a really good job keeping the integrity of the original indie deck. I hope this helps 🥰!

I love the dreamkeepers tarot, but don't like the severed heads motif. For that main reason I'll stick with the Mystical Moments.

Two years after the fact, I find myself with this exact dilemma, despite having been sure since forever that neither of these decks were in any way for me 😅 How did you experience these decks after having them both in your collection? Did you use both or did you prefer one of them in the long run? Have they since moved on? I’m curious about what your hindsight is.

Hi, Josie! I am happy to report that both of these decks are still in my collection. These decks are just everything I love in a deck and I don’t foresee that changing. I initially thought that I would use the Dreamkeepers deck for shadow and ancestor work because of the vibe the artwork and the muted color palette gave me and that the Tarot of Mystical Moments would be an all around deck because of its bright and shiny ✨ Alice in Wonderland vibe it has. Well, I’ve found that at least for me, both work wonderfully for any kind of reading and it just comes down to which artwork I feel like indulging in for a reading! I love them both equally and they are both used equally. I hope this helps!

I love the look of both decks. The Mystical Moments is more vibrant and light but I think the Dreamkeepers looks "deeper". The term 'samey' could be applied to all those who collect the same Rider Waite Smith decks over and over again.

Like I said in the video, I’ve had more experience with the Dreamkeepers and that deck is deep, but we have to be careful not to discount TMM just because of the bright and colorful images. I have also had confronting readings with my more playful and whimsical decks. It will be really interesting to see how this deck reads. Yes, I agree about the Collectors of Pixie’s art decks. That’s why I don’t consider myself a true collector...I only have 3 copies of the RWS deck🤣🤣🤣. But...we all like what we like!

I feel that the Mystical Moments is more dream like than the other. Also, some cards in the Dreamkeepers could have had more elements when compared with the Mystical Moments counterpart. I love The Lovers of the Dreamkeepers. I think you can have both, I usually read with more than one deck and will also buy the Oracle of Mystical Moments.

I was partway through interpreting the ‘Journey Spread’ from Ancestral Tarot by Nancy Hendrickson when I took a break to watch this video. First, I own and love both of these decks, but decided to use the Dreamkeepers Tarot for this spread. I am so glad I did. The cards though muted and darker are nevertheless rich with symbolism to take you deeply into them. I wrote my own intuitive messages before reading the wonderful guidebook for this deck. To be honest, the Dreamkeepers Tarot did not attract me like the Tarot of Mystical Moments as they are stunningly beautiful, nevertheless, I highly recommend the Dreamkeepers Tarot as it is great value for money with its large, deeply insightful guidebook.

You’ve, got me intrigued! The Ancestral Tarot has long been on my wishlist, but I just haven’t gotten around to purchasing it yet. The Dreamkeeper’s Tarot has a darker and more shadowy feel to it, while the Tarot of Mystical Moments has a feeling of “tarot in the park on a sunny day” feel to it for me. I love them both!

My more current videos have time stamps in them so viewers can check in and out as they please and easily find what they want to see. I try to put the information I look for in an unboxing...packaging, card stock, a good look at the card imagery. I thought musical flip throughs with no commentary would be a good idea for just enjoying the cards themselves. I now pay for a music service for access to a wide variety of music and I have a lot of fun looking for just the right music!

I prefer mystical moment more because of the color, and it is more intuitive to me. I can hardly deal with headless images in dreamkeepers, haha! By the way, I am water (sun) + air (ascendant and moon) sign... LOL!!!

Mystical Moments is controlled, refined, with a heart felt feminine take; the dilemmas are somewhat hidden behind the delicate curt feminine faces. The separate inner voices of the feminine are more mind bending surreal, and overtly showcased through metaphor in the Dreamskeepers---Side by side sometimes i prefer one image card over the other respectively, from either deck. Both exude some beautiful key cards.

I would probably go for Tarot of Mystical Moments as it looks more vibrant and dream-like but I like how it deviates quite a lot from the Dreamkeepers Tarot. The latter is quite obvious in its RWS reiteration but the former is slightly more difficult to decipher which makes for an exciting read
