When this tune was first played in Philadelphia back in 1959, a local DJ on WDAS, Georgie Woods played it about 10 times in a row. He was was stunned by the Drifters performance. I agreed . The tympani drums, the strings, the haunting plaintive chanting of Ben E King was something I had never heard before in my 15 years. I feel the same today approaching my 80th birthday.

One of the very first doo wop/ rock groups that used violins in their arrangements. A wonderful time in our lives but it's important to live in today and not yesterday. Today is your day to enjoy and find the happiness that is offered. Yesterday is done, today is what you have. Make the most of it. I say this from an old fart of 81.

I was devastated ....till the next month, I met another love. For some reason thought you only fell in love once, not true.....If your lucky, the best one is always the first. i was born in the 90s, nd my grandparents listen to the 50s - 80s , i enjoy listening to that kind of music bc it's better of todays music, nd these todays generation of kids doesn't even know what good music is, same goes for classic movies, those black and white movies

this was never soul music - pop music or rock. Just because a black person sing something does not make it soul.

My only argument was not so much that it, in part, created soul music as it helped turn r&b into soul music with the strings and the gospel vocal

I'm 49, Teens from this time are around 80 now. But starting in the mid to late 50's we started getting some long lasting pop songs that will always be classic and enjoyable. 😊
