Dearly missed indeed, just hope the Food survive for the sake of music itself... As for either of them being "the best drummer on earth", well... That's a biiiiiig stretch! I mean, very talented for different reasons, but neither is anywhere CLOSE to being the greatest on earth (let alone the GOAT).

@@eduh7950 They're not mindlessly stroking their egos. I think that's just how they show appreciation for each other. They feel extremely comfortable and beyond confident with each other as bandmates that they just wouldn't have it any other way. Plenty of more "technical" drummers out there who outskill these guys esp in the metal and jazz community both from older and newer generations but that alone doesn't always define greatness in their realm of rock and roll.

It isn't all dave's guitars. They were talking about it in another interview, they get so many instruments per tour, usually at least one per continent, so if they play europe and the US they get two sets of every instrument, including drum kits, then after the tour is over they ship all the gear back to them. They try to give them away but they are given so much free stuff they don't know what to do with it.

As someone who devoted years of my life to each of these bands, I (myself) appreciate Sabbath more. I love them the same, however where Led Zeppelin cloned the blues and then evolved into a progressive rock band, Black Sabbath introduced the world to this new heavy ominous sound. Their first 3 records were amazing. Therefore, in the grand scheme of their imprint on Rock and Roll, I do believe that Black Sabbath was one ups Plant, Page, Jones and Bonham. This is coming from someone who once called Led Zeppelin the greatest band to ever live. Just my humble opinion.

I still think of Dave Grohl as the drummer for Nirvana. He's a great musician but for some reason when I hear his name the first thought that comes to my head is the drum riff for Smells Like Teen Spirit right at the end the into.

In some ways each generation has their versions of the "Beatles"...One group, (or more)entertainers or bands that just stand out from the rest. The Foos will be remembered as the band that kept it real. And made it cool to be down to earth and respectful of those that came before them. Yet not afraid to poke fun at themselves and writing great songs while doing it. Thats what makes them who they are. Gotta lov chemistry...
@stephenpiper5604

The Beatles were way bigger than that. The Beatles are every generation's the Beatles, because without the Beatles there are no subsequent generations. I think that was what Dave Grohl was trying to say.

Drumming on pillows, I did the same thing, I'd lay them out, bent double and arrange them around me like a kit, waiting for top of the pops on the TV. I was around 10 years old and my drum sticks were just sticks. Ah, take me back to those 70's days.
