Yeah but they changed that in the Dub so that Eren does, I guess the dubbing staff overlooked it. But I think it's to do with the fact that Paradise isn't a tropical Island since they don't have Coffee and they have Snow storms like in Historia and Ymir's Flashback.

Eren trying to suppress his emotions but being unable to due to how utterly enraged he is feels pretty sad. He's going through a lot right now. Ymir using her intellect to sort through the situation, Reiner having a mental breakdown, and Bertolt watching from the sidelines as the chaos unfolds. This episode is nothing but people talking, but it does so much with foreshadowing and the shifting of character relationships that I love it all the same.

This sheds light on why Reiner was the most talkative of the 3 traitors. Bert and Annie were both fully aware of the gravity of their actions, and as a result, they were the quiet ones. But Reiner wasn't even aware of what he did half the time. That's just sad.

Anyone else just love how honest Reiner is. He doesn’t try to bullshit Ymir by giving her the best ending. Instead he openly acknowledges that there are limits to their influence in their hometown and that they won’t be able to protect her but is still able to cut a deal with her.
@JeusAlprime1083 жыл бұрын
Ymir is being honest when she said she couldn't tell who is the enemy, because seriously from her perspective and what she knew at this point, there is really no clear line to tell who is her enemy. P.S: Montana seem like have overlooked the Marco death incident in that flashback scene when Kenny specifically ask about her thought.
@WaveForceful2 жыл бұрын
I think Ymir actually sided with Reiner and Bertholt because she believed that Eldia and Paradis had no hope and would have been wiped out not 10 years from now, she obviously knew about the brainwashing thig having come from Marley. It wasn't until she saw Eren use the founder where she changed her mind but in the end she was forcefully taken back by Bert and Reiner.
@JeusAlprime1082 жыл бұрын
@@WaveForceful Agree she side with Reiner because she is aware the invasion againat Paradis has begun, so Historia staying here is not gonna has a good ending, but until she realise Eren has the coordinate, she figure Paradis still stand a chance against the invasion, that's why shw let Historia stay. But I didn't agree that she was forcefully taken back by Reiner, because she did has the choice to return with Reiner or stay with Historia at her own free will, yet she choose to return with Reiner, so that she could return the power or extra lifespan she stole from Reiner friends and help Reiner and Berthold avoid being strip away of their warrior position. End of the day, she reveal her real personalities who is similar to Historia who care about other more than their own. Ymir suffered a lot due to her own personalities 60 years ago, that's why after she regain second chance with the titan power, she go polar opposite to her old self until she met Historia who really resemblance her old personalities, that's why she has develop such a bond with Historia even though she acting like Rocket did in GoTG as expose by Yondu.
@WaveForceful2 жыл бұрын
@@JeusAlprime108 Thats true. Ymir wanted to take Historia to Marley because she believed it would be safer. If I'm not mistaken, Historia's identity of being the crown princess was still secret and the only person who would ever know is Zeke if he came into contact with her. Yeah, Ymir knew that the invasion of Paradis had begun and knew that with their current technology, they couldn't beat Marley, until she saw Eren use the founder in which she decided to leave Historia.
@JeusAlprime1082 жыл бұрын
@@WaveForceful Yeah when she overheard what that two priest talk about Christa as an important person, they did not unveil about her royal bloodline. All she knew about Christa is that she is working very hard to be a good girl just like Ymir did 60 years ago when she is faking as a royal descendant on Marley for some Eldian cult organisation. That's why they formed that bond so fast because Ymir recognise that good girl facade of Christa resemblance to her own back then in her previous life.

I always interpreted it as her thinking the answer was "the whole world" because of the Marley- eldian situation. And she couldn't say it because eren would either not believe or go insane. I love how Kenny is putting the pieces together in his head while asking Montana what she knows about DID. Gee, I wonder what traumatic event, that might have been shown in a flashback a couple of episodes back, could have triggered that for Reiner.
@marcusolarte37643 жыл бұрын
Montana’s explanation of DID blew my mind, and I did the exact same thing as Kenny. Connecting all the pieces together in my mind after now learning more about the psych element was the cherry on top of their post-reaction discussion.
25:27 *Spoilery* So there's actually a chance of Montana being right cuz when they first arrived "there" Reiner promised during his fight with Annie that he'd replace the friend Ymir ate and his personality changed instantly. When Reiner is sitting at the dinning table with "spoiler" he went from 'respected warrior of spoiler' to 'just Reiner' while recounting his time inside the walls. It's obvious by the reaction of those around him at the moment. And just S4 Reiner's completely different personality and mannerism that can be chalked up to just depression but Reiner has a lot of moment where he acts weird. So I think we can say that we either have two personalities or We have Reiner who he was before evrything (he does make reappearances,) Reiner the leader/replacement for their former leader, Reiner The soldier and scout, Reiner the warrior of spoiler.
@DancingViru3 жыл бұрын
Some additional stuff I'd like to share about DID from someone I know who has it: Very often the split after a traumatic event isn't necessarily logical, its rather random. We as kids tend to interact with the world via roleplay since we're curious at that age & want to try out different stuff to see if we like them. We experiment with our expressions as well during that time. Eventually these "personas" supposed to merge into a singular personality during puberty (thats why being in puberty feels like hell lol). However if, like Montana said, there was a traumatic event during our childhood, the role play personas we unintentionally developed won't merge into a singular personality, & instead each of them develop INDIVIDUALLY! That means individual personalities in every sense of what we know about mental health, to the point that each of those personalities can have their own name, gender, sexuality, AGE!, hobbies, favorite food & colors, music, dream jobs, religion/world views etc. & thats mainly because each of them have their OWN memories. This unfortunately led to lots of harmful stigma for people with DID in regards to their dating life (like accusations of lying/cheating since the individual personalities don't necessarily remember who their other personalities are dating). Whats interesting here is, sometimes each of the DID personalities can be aware of each other, but very often there are a couple of personalities that are "dormant", as in, they haven't consciously emerged yet. Psychologists theorize these personalities are the ones that vividly remember the traumatic event & have no new memories since then. Whats fascinating here is that the DID personalities can tell whether & how many, dormant personalities they share their body with, despite never having surfaced the brain's consciousness. What's important to note here, & why I wanted to share this is, this "splitting" then becomes the #1 coping mechanism going forward, so each time there's some sort a traumatic event, instead of developing PTSD, the individuals may develop additional personalities instead, however some of these personalities may experience PTSDs on their own. In general, each of the DID personalities may experience their own mental health issues like depression, or may have ADHD, or may be autistic since their emergence through the split etc. Each of these personalities are technically their own person, they just happen to share the same body. There's a neurodiverse movement led by them that advocates for the accommodation of their personalities. They prefer to be called "plural people" or "pluralists". They don't like the sound of being "cured" because that essentially means to "kill off" each of the additional personalities, which in mental health sense would mean enforced dementia. The personalities are in general in very good terms with each other & while there may be a "main" personality, they do schedule each other so that each & 1 of them may experience a fulfilling life to the degree they can afford & accommodate. They mainly ask the society to give them the appropriate tools for better management & destigmatize DID, so that we learn to adjust. (the case of pregnancy is a good example, if 1 DID personality doesn't want it but doesn't want to go dormant for 9+ months either). I think in Reiner's case, it's just a split personality as a symptom, & not actually DID with 2 individual personalities, as he just remembered his "soldier persona".

The answer to Montana's question of whether Reiner had a thing for Christa, remember this whole episode touches on his duality and his two personas. One, the soldier might have a thing for Christa. The real Reiner, the Warrior... um... let's refer back to his previous conversation with Ymir about a can. The fact that that conversation happened with Ymir, who clearly has a thing for Christa is very telling.

Tbh, I don't think anyone can related to Reiner. All his life he was told the people on Paradis deserved death, they were devils and they had it coming, that he had to do this for atone for his ancestors sins and to give his family honorary citizen status. So he goes over to Paradis, causes chaos to infiltrate, spends 4 years with them and grows found of them, realises they are not devils at all, just people chilling, trying to just get by. It fucked him up, one side of him was the Marley warrior, while the other side sympathised with them. Eventually both sides merged which is the Reiner we see in S4, he's not trying to kill all Eldians or side with Marley, he just wants the fighting to stop and realises the true enemy of the world is Eren.

About DID - (From someone who has it) Alters only form during childhood, and work by not developing a unified sense of identity caused by REPEATED, LONG-TERM trauma ONLY at an early age (ages six to eight, roughly). What's more, alters do not form out of guilt but rather trauma. Further trauma can cause an alter to split into more alters, whilst a strong level of integration (communication and positive mental healthcare) can cause fusions of alters into new identities. For the record, Reiner is not a good example of DID because he develops it later in life, develops it out of a single trauma and guilt, and has instant, rapid switches. It also gets called 'multiple personalities' which it is not - it is different identities, which work in a different way. The claim that the 'younger alter' splits off so the others don't have to deal with it isn't accurate. Humans are split at the start and develop a unified identity, DID happens when this doesn't. Often, alters will split into separate alters and one will carry the memories of the trauma that caused the split, but both in that case would be the same age. These traumatised alters will often take on identities to handle it - either children who can't/don't understand the gravity of it, animals even for the same reason, or even just an alter with high mental fortitude, but the point is that these alters are not 'younger' or 'older'. 'Splits' doesn't necessarily just mean into two, and the strong point here is that people with DID miss the natural unification around ages 6-8, but babies and toddlers actually don't have a unified sense of identity and that is developed as a child, and that is what is halted. Just thought that should be cleared up!

After that he becomes the ruthless warrior and later becomes the loyal soldier and he just keeps shifting between these two sides and the original sweet Reiner is not seen again... It would be very interesting to see an AU where Ymir spills to Eren on Marley, the Nine titans, the Founder Ymir, everything here. How would the story have changed.

This episode is where dub really lets AoT down. There was foreshadowing that was missed out in the translation.

Elaborate. Ive seen this series in 3 different languages as well as read the manga and nothing pertaining to the plot is changed. Everything is literally verbatim. If you're talking about the coordinate, that's not valid as it's explained literally right after (as someone else pointed out), anything else would be spoiler territory so I won't go there. Not one translation is 100% accurate, that's simple linguistics. Not to mention the VAs have to match their mouths and the languages are structured differently, so they must use their time and words accordingly.

@@TheGuitarpro3 The only thing that i''ve seen that the dub did wrong is that it implied that Eren knows what a monkey is, as he said "a monkey? dont be cute", while he wouldnt know what a monkey is, as there is none in the island. In the sub, Eren ask what a monkey is while Reinner, Ymir and Berthlod all know.

@@maitebenegas4704 I understand what you mean. Given "Para..." and what not. But thats more of a trivial nitpick than an actual story changing detail. The manga says "What's this 'ape'?" While blu ray says "What's that? A monkey?" Not much to go on there. But you wouldn't have read it the way we all understand how everything is now in hindsight. Even in sub reactions, no one has picked that up. In the end it isn't a detail you'll understand unless you go back and rewatch it.

Montana, your thought is brilliant. I watched these react from season 1 and I really confused that you can guessing the puzzle piece of attack on titan's cast and plots correctly. and I recommend you to watch attack on titan on 2-3 times, because the writer's of this anime, Isayama-sensei really genius. he listed some details that you wouldn't even notice if you just watched them once. and this was acknowledged by a few of voice actors for the Japanese version, which I forgot they were the voice actors for which cast but they once said you would understand what was happening in the anime once 2-3 times and you would begin to notice important details that we didn't realize at the beginning. and I recommend you all to watch "attack on titan: junior high", that's a spin-off parody anime from attack on titan

Kenny, have you seen season 4 by now? I think you once said you only watched 1-3 and then started over with Montana. Just wondering
