marymacka mac sorry for your loss, my fathers been gone more than forty years, my mom is still with us but now and then I see the look on her face be it a wry smile from some warm memory of him but now and again the pain of all the lonely years. They say time is a great healer , I’m not sure about that I think that with the passage of time the pain of one loss become less acute, perhaps fading to a dull ache. The Dubliners were my favourite folk group at university in the 60s, but sadly on vinyl, no money to travel to concerts etc. I finally saw them in their farewell tour of 2012. To my eternal regret almost none of the originals were still alive. But Barney McK was! And sang this song, though his voice was past its best. He died a few months later. What a man, and what a bunch of players.
