Also glad you gave credit to at least a couple fans, John Jacobs and Rory Young! On a serious note, great work as always. To be fair, when he was drafted, they thought he was the next Michael Irvin. That was a pretty good comparison at the time. The potential was there but just needed a more no nonsense coach than Norv Turner. He could've been special but needed to be reigned in. Michael Irvin had Jimmy Johnson. Westbrook didn't. That's where coaching becomes the difference maker because it builds culture.

1. Year One of the Dan Synder error; still the only season where the Commanders won a playoff game at FedEx Field. 2. Michael Westbrook and Stephen Davis had a fight during training camp in 1997. 3. Then that season, Westbrook removed his helmet, getting an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty which cost the Redskins a chnace to possibly get an OT Field Goal against the Giants. That was also the game where Gus Frerrotte whiplashed himself.

Cincinnati was the team Michael Westbrook played for in 2002 (Did they get him through Trade or Free Agency?), his final season in the NFL. Also looked a bit into his stint with Brazilian Jiu-Jitzu a few years after he left the league. I find it interesting seeing what former players did after their NFL careers ended, since you can find things you wouldn’t think about, especially if the player is otherwise obscure. It helps us remind ourselves that players are people just like all of us and that by researching this, we learn about players that time would’ve forgotten about.

It was all down hill for Synder’s tenure from here.

I don't know what the hell Westbrook was thinking when he talked about the Buccaneers' secondary like that because the Buccaneers had the one of the best such DB rooms in modern NFL history. What he said looked asinine at the time. John Lynch being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Rondé Barber finally joining him there, Westbrook managed to look even worse. This wasn't one of those things that looks bad in hindsight. Westbrook looked bad on the spot! Lynch was being kind calling Westbrook's performance "average!"
