The Grand Duke is based off of a early 60's Chrysler Imperial. They were so indestructible within most demo derby rules that they were outlawed, or made to run only against each other. The "secret" was the fenders, header panel, and cowl at the base of the windshield were all welded together. The hood was perfectly flat and set in like a channel. Once the hood was bolted down tightly, and the fenders welded to the doors, the whole front end was a solid piece with very little chance of bending, because the hit would have to be hard enough to bend everything. Which no other car was capable of doing without putting itself out. If there was one, it ended the show too quick. If there was more than one, people got bored and left before it ended.

@@redflthcui Not sure, most Chrysler products were uni-bodies. Speaking of such, my brother ran a '61 Plymouth Valiant in a demo once. It was so light when it got hit, it was like kicking a soccer ball. Didn't hurt it, you just shot it across the track. Until he got trapped up against the race track's wall. The transmission push button panel fell into the dashboard.

@@DDS029 The '67 and later Imperials took on the Chrysler C-body semi-unibody platform (the front suspension and front rails were part of the separate K-member), but the previous models like the one in Wreckfest were, indeed, ladder frames. Ditto with the New Yorker, DeSotos, and other Chryslers at the time (including the Belvederes - 'ol Christine had a chassis to match her disposition!). Their _particular_ ace in the hole was that these chassis were, in part, *boxed* from the factory with another C-channel, and double-width at that from behind the rear wheels to the kickup for the rear axle. Ford's Raptor chassis - both variations - should cry just looking at them. You're not wrong about the entire front clip welded and leaded together on the pre-67 models. Brilliant and outrageous at the same time, given how much effort that added to any fender-bender back then.

slight variation of this idea: go Keirin style and have the bus pull off at the start of the last lap and have the survivors sprint to the end. need to balance survivability for the first 80% and speed for the last 20%. Might need some other rules to keep people from hiding at the back, maybe throw in a combine harvester at the back on sweeper duty.

Maybe for the next one of these, besides a leader bus, maybe a sweeper bus as well? Basically, the sweeper bus ensures that anybody at the back doesn't stay at the back and forces them forward. :)

Tournament suggestion: Do a tournament where the Winner of the race gets to pick the next track or car and second place picks what's left. So either first gets to pick track and second picks car, or the opposite, but it's up to the winner what gets picked first. Everyone uses the same car, and first race just choose any random track and car. All same cars but changing every race is fun, I also want to see how fast you guys are in some faster stuff.

This was a great challenge, and I think it may be improved upon by having this same set of rules, but on the last lap, the bus moves out of the way and everyone who's left has a mad dash to the finish line. If that makes sense. Edit: In the second race, when the bus was stuck at the finish, Alex rammed Ninetales into the finish line when Alex was going for the bus, and I think Longbow crossed the finish line thinking the bus had already crossed the finish line when it didn't. So technically, Alex was the cause to Ninetales unintentional victory and to Longbow crossing the finish line before the bus.

Solution: Sorta ignore placement in the race. Here's how it works. Take the final placement in the race. For each driver subtract the number of cars they actually wrecked. That's the point total for that driver. Scoring works like golf. Lowest score wins. Example: Laddo takes first, put no one out. You take 3rd, put out 4. You win with a score of -1 vs. Laddo with a score of 0. Make it a tourney of 3 races a day, 3 day tourney. Film it all and let's have fun. *** Edit: dnf's automatically get the worst completed score for a race, regardless of how many cars they put out.

Set the race for 6 laps, everyone does a lap except the bus, then when the clock hits 2 minutes or so everyone goes but stays behind the bus. When the race is done the true 1st place is first place and the bus is a lap down.

I have a slight rule change for the bus. Each lap, the bus HAS to go slower. Lap 1 is 100, lap 2 is 80, lap 3 is 60, lap 4 is 40, lap 5 is 20.
