Ah yes, blame social media and say train companies should do more. There is only so much they can do to protect morons from themselves
@jonathanmcadams-nx5zp11 ай бұрын
No kidding. I mean how obviously dangerous does something need to be before people admit that it is the persons fault and not the company or another person's. It is sad when you lose a person you care about and it is natural to be angry and upset and try to find blame in others. People don't want it to happen again and didn't want it to happen in the first place to their people. I must admit I might start putting blame on others if my loved ones died in a stupid way because I would just be so distraught and broken. I would probably try and sue and spread awareness in some way even if fault was falling on the side of my loved one. Worth a try and can't hurt to warn people and try to save a life even if it is in vein.

Someone commented about ‘people seem ‘stupider’ nowadays. This was in West Palm Beach, Florida. I wrote about 1977, I worked at a big retail store, this is way before Wal Mart style ‘super stores’. I had an older man come to my cosmetic counter and demanded his money back for the petroleum jelly he bought ‘tastes DISGUSTING!’ I pointed out the line on the product YEARS AGO, ‘Not for human consumption. He yelled at me, ‘I couldn’t consume it! It was awful, Blondie!’ I gave him his money back and had a great story. People are not ‘stupider’, we just have more ability to HEAR about the idiotic stunts.

About five years ago, we were hiking at the Grand Canyon South Rim and we passed a ranger talking to a large group of tourists. As we heard him cautioning people about staying away from the cliff edges, over to the side was a 13 or 14 year old boy sitting on the cliff edge with his legs dangling over the side. Some people needlessly put themselves at risk.

Remi's death must have been an appalling, terrifying experience for him. It is easy to point the finger at him and say, aloud or to one's self, that it was nobody's fault but his - true...and coldhearted in the extreme. After he lost his grip It would have taken him about 7 seconds to hit the ground. Count that aloud to yourself and as you are doing so think about the terror he must have experienced. The lessons here are obvious. Remi went to great lengths, broke a fair number of laws, and gave little consideration to the feelings of those who loved him and undoubtedly wished that he would not engage in such dangerous activities. It is easy to point fingers and pontificate while feeling righteous...I'm good at it myself...but Remi's accident, after giving it some thought, seemed too truly horrifying for any young man to face. So...for those who like this sort of activity, please, perhaps, give it a second thought before proceeding...

Subway surfing - why not fit subway car roofs with cameras, so once a "surfer" is spotted, the train can be stopped?

Probably because there are other trains following?

Yes, just imagine spending years in solitary confinement all by yourself.......
@cstephenson37498 ай бұрын
That was a redundant statement.
@thomasjamison20508 ай бұрын
@@cstephenson3749 Not necessarily. You could be the only prisoner in the world in solitary. You could be in a facility where you never see any of the guards, where all your food and supplies just show up. There are solitary confinements where one could be allowed a pet or a garden. Philadelphia had one like that. Dickens visited it and was horrified. You could have or not have a radio or a computer or such.

An internal compass of common sense has to govern your decisions to participate in risky activities and perform dangerous, reckless stunts. Such people bear their own consequences. Parents who absolve their children of responsibility, blame others or sue public entities for some vague form of contributory negligence just infantilize these people. In these cases, if they're dead it's their fault.
@cstephenson37498 ай бұрын
These are the same parents who appeal to the public to pay for burying the 'poor unfortunate child' instead of taking out life insurance for the child , while frittering their money away on lottery tickets, going to the pub, buying $400 shoes or ... well any frittering expenditure.
