I used to get criticized for being unsure of stuff by stupid people. I was called stupid from stupid people. They want me to be confidently ignorant. I didn’t buy into it. I did really well in school and life by being uncertain and humble. The uncertainty made me dig deeper for the truth. I also notice stupid people are more likely to call another person stupid because they project. I used to hang out with losers because I feel bad for them, but they project and end calling everybody else losers and critical of other people when they live with their parents at 40, never had a girlfriend, and never work a day in his life. There is no saving losers who don’t want to be saved.

@@geo5549 There is a reason why they have no friends, no jobs, or girlfriends. Being in relationships because you feel bad for them is one of the worst ideas. It Almost ruined my life with my ex girlfriend. I used to be very empathetic to people before I was completely disillusioned by how losers really are. Even when you're really nice to losers they are so critical and blame everybody else including me for their failures. That why they have no friends. They are very very angry about everything. I'm sorry if I'm too raw about this, but it is the truth.

@@alexlilano1931 no offense , but you sound like how a person under the 'Dunning Krugger' effect would (correct me if the spelling is utterly wrong , I'm not quite sure). One thing that caught my attention in regards to your comment , besides anything else , is how you believe having a girlfriend is somehow a sign of success (or at least that is what I interpreted from it).

I encourage everyone watching this video to make a goal of being okay with not knowing something. Being okay with the randomness of life. Being okay with being uncertain. Letting things go that don't make enough sense. The endless fight of searching for 100% of the answer(s) will frustrate and discourage you. Confidence isn't being fearless. It's knowing that you will okay despite fear.

I'm a victim of just glossing over something and not bothering to dig deeper, which is something I'm aiming to change. I'm proud of acknowledging this even before watching this vid. I also notice that I'm very self-conscious of the things I do and say, and that's why oftentimes I stay silent when I think of how what I say can be misinterpreted or just not understood. Kinda sad honestly

At least you understand your weakness. I fall the other way, and it's just as bad. I spend so much time focusing on tiny details that I often don't have time to study the whole. I'm an electrical engineer and in my early years in the 80's I initially had trouble comprehending exactly how electrical charge propagates down a conductor. My class mates were happy to accept that "it just does" but I spent weeks reading as much as I could to understand the sub-atomic nature of electricity. There's nothing sad about you at all mate. Being self-conscious is not such a bad thing, at least you pay attention to how your words and actions affect others. Do you know what's bad though? People who aren't self-conscious, and walk around leaving pain and destruction everywhere they go by virtue of their insufferable nature. I don't know you, but I like the way you think, and that's good enough for me. Peace.

@4:28: It actually does not defy mathematical plausibility. A simple example: 99,9% Of humans can have an above average number of fingers, when 0,1% of them are missing one finger, the average number of fingers is less than 10 (actually 9,99). If you happen to have 10 fingers you are above average and so is almost everybody else. So it is not per se implausible for the vast majority to be above average.

So I work in an auto shop and I’m 20 years old. I often feel like I’m not given proper treatment, so I usually try harder. I recently went to an class for alignments on cars and realized I knew quite a bit more than the average person there, but I didn’t know enough to be “smart” in that field. Since then I’ve taken a step back and I’ve taken every chance to learn.

3 mins in this video, this is why I get obsessed with random things. Cause you don’t even know how deep, keyboards, video games, movies, sports, fishing, paintball, coin collecting, tech decks ect. really go. I loooove going deep into anything. It’s like learning a whole language of a subject in 2 days of google and KZbin then I get on the cusp of when it gets difficult to keep progressing, then I move on. I can’t believe there is a term for this. This has been my whole life. Ive been doing this since I was a kid. Skateboarding tricks got hard, so let’s just learn how the board is constituted, trucks, how it the bearings work , how are they made, why that kind of metal? Why this design, All in all I’m going to be a really cool ass old guy. If I can remember it all.

With the Engineer Assessment statistics there are two things to consider: 1. There needs to be clear definitions or benchmarks to determine what the best engineer actually is. 2. Comparing one company of engineers is not suitable to determine top 5%. They could be the engineering company with only the top 5% of engineers and if they were asked how would rank your self as an engineer, top 5% would be accurate even if 100% answered top 5%.

Can I just say; I don’t use subtitles, but I love that you auto add them. Even through you have a clear understandable nice voice, you have subtitles that can be turned off, but default they come on. I don’t know why I like this, just feels nice and professional. Maybe it’s because it’s different from the rest of KZbin and it stands out.

There is a curriculum bias, if I'm shown a documentary about alien life then told I will be questioned on this this is NOT my thoughts about it. Doing "above average work" for some it just means I did above average work than my own typical work. I often come across incompetency and if you call them out on it, they use the expression "I've been doing this for over 20 years, I know what I'm doing." Imagine being incompetent for over 20 years.

Unfortunately, the European version of history largely out-survived and out-thrived the sanskrit versions. Furthermore, many people, especially flat-earth christian types, will never acknowledge anything that dates the world before 4000 BCE. Edit: Sorry, Rajat. The knowledgeable among us are speaking. They are drowned out by the noise of the misinformed and the pompous on the wall of voices. Some very knowledgeable people, especially new found knowledgeable people, are possessive of their new found information and don't want to share knowledge. Others who are most knowledgeable share openly but then get shut down and accused of all sorts of things rather than supported for being so generous. I have a friend at the dinner table who knows a lot about many things and when you search it up, you realize he does know what he is rambling on about. Bur he is engaging and he listens, he is really preset, that's different than a knows nothing know it all cheeky nitwit. Amazing content thanks always -- humbly yours.

Once I learned of D-K, saw it in action and had time to think about it I came to understand that I had a severe case of it. I do still of course but at least I have a chance to spot it. There was one time, however, in the time when I was far to the left of the D-K curve, I took a pre-employment test for a programming job at a large insurance company. When I was interviewed after the test I was asked how well I thought I did on it. I nailed it. Not quite good enough. I didn't get the job of course. Not sure why they even bothered with the interview.

Omicron is 70x as transmissable as Delta, which was already 2x as transmissible as the original COVID virus. Regular masks had a small impact on spread with the original virus. With Omicron, masks literally do almost nothing (unless it's an N95). The hospitalization rate for Omicron is looking to be 10x LOWER than Delta, and vaccines are looking to be only like 37% effective against Omicron.

Also fun fact. It takes like 1,000 unvaxxed people that need to be banned from a flight to prevent 1 instance of COVID being spread (this was prior to Omicron which is way more infectious)

Before you start calling people “dumb”, please consider this: People can be highly competent and knowledgeable in a certain domain without knowing the associated statistical data. Teachers who grade students, usually have no clue how they really compare to other teachers. They’re more likely familiar with statistical data about students than teachers. For example. Are you smarter than the average KZbin commenter?

A bad takeaway from this would be to think if you are great at something you _must_ not know about it. You can look at a few handful scientists, musicians, visual artists etc, who are the bottom of the bottom when it comes to being loud and obnoxious and they’re aware of how great they are. That one is pretty difficult to see cz it breaks the romanticisation that knowledge and arrogance are _necessarily_ inversely proportional.

I appreciate this video. I often fall prey, probably daily, to this effect. I'm curious if this effect is operating after about 30, maybe with a more progressive phase about age 50-60 years of age when humans enter the cognitive stage of stagnation (not just losing the capacity to learn new subjects, but losing the desire to learn those subjects as well, and whether that loss of desire is what dictates to our respective selves if that capacity to learn remains strong) when we become more rooted to long held beliefs with our supporting opinions clouding any desire to learn more than we believe we need to. I'm not sure if I've posed this question in a way that is easily understood. Forgive me, please? Input regarding this phenom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cheers!🍻

As a gymnastics teacher, I’ve observed this effect my whole teaching career I just couldn’t name it. 50% of children I’ve taught over a 6 year span always think they know more than they really do as soon as they pick up a few skills. Those students will almost always stagnate and even sometimes quit because they (their parents) don’t feel like they are progressing. The parents take them to a different gym, and a couple months later we hear through the grapevine that the kid has quit that gym as well. 25% of kids don’t even care they are there and are just existing. The other 25% are the good ones. The attentive, usually more articulate, observational, comprehensive and just all around better students are at. There’s an even smaller percentage of that good group that is almost the perfect child to teach that is like a robot. I’ve only had one named Abigail. Bless her. Anyway, thank you for the information.
