I had one in the Philippines fresh off the tree. it smelled worse than the gensan fish market. you could smell it from like 40+ feet away when it was cracked. it tasted also exactly like it smelled. it was horrible. I think they mellow out after a couple days off the tree. not sure but the one I had would've ruined your garage entirely.

The closest thing I can explain it is - Eating a way overripe mango next to a garbage bin. The smell is off putting to what it actually tastes like. Durian ice cream is actually pretty good.

In Thailand they have many food more stinky than durian. They eat like dried fish, flaky fish sauce, shrimp crackers, stinky tofu, and many more. So, compared those stuff to durian. The durian will smell so amazing then😅
