What is your favorite fruit in Streuselkuchen/crumb cake? Also, let me know if you have baked this recipe and how it came out!

Favorite was made with the German style prune plums ... Stanley is the variety we had . No longer able to get that fruit in my area and so ... boo-hoo, not plum crumb cake! ... Gonna try your blueberry version.

Ohhh, by far my favorite is rhubarb. I don’t make it often because I can’t stop eating it. 🥴

Zwetschgen (plums). And then apples. I am an autumn Streuselkuchen person for sure.

Anja, I have made this crumb cake twice now. I made it with apples, walnuts and lots of cinnamon. I was so impressed that something so easy could taste so divine. My husband, who loves anything with streusel couldn't stop raving about it. The second time I made it I wanted to try it with blueberries but he wanted the apple version again. Maybe next time 😊. In the meantime, I'm really enjoying this recipe. Thank you

I love German cakes. 🥰 My mother was German and I’m so glad I watched her bake. She wouldn’t share her recipes with me and they disappeared when she passed away. I secretly took notes when I was young watching her bake. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your wonderful recipes with us. God bless you. ❤️

Looks delicious Anna. You sound like my Mom, she is German and a Military bride. I loved our time spent in Germany with my Oma and Opa and many Aunt and Uncles and cousins. Still remember all the great food too. Keep up the great work. Love your channel!!!

Hallo! I can’t wait to try this ! When I was in Berlin I had this lovely rustic apple “struesel” (I’m not sure it was like pie) and a vanilla custard sauce that was seriously to die for! I would love to see a video for that if you are looking for suggestions 😊 thank you for making such enjoyable videos, I love watching them and hearing about Germany and your life !

I found you a little while ago, and just tried this recipe with plums. Sadly, I lost my grandma's recipe. Ich komme aus Deutschland, wohne aber schon lange in Kanada. This cake turned out amazing! Not quite as crumbly as I had hoped, but that was totally my 'fault'. Super yummy anyway. Thanks for sharing.

That sounds great! You can make the Streusel a bit more crumbly by adding a tad more flour. I am so glad you liked it! Viele Grüße von Anja

Even though I’m watching this a year after you posted it, this came at just the right time. I wanted to make a pie but forgot to buy a pie crust (and didn’t want to go out to get it). This looks like it would be great for my pie

I don't know if it was the gluten-free flour I used, but it didn't have a cake texture. More like a bar. Next time I might bake it in a square pan and cut it into squares. Also I want to try it with regular flour and see the difference.

The strawberries could have made it a bit soggy but the bottom is really more like a short-crust. But yes, keep experimenting and keep us posted 😊 ~ Anja

Can gluten free flour be used? This looks absolutely delicious and I would probably use blueberries also.

I haven't tried it myself but I would imagine that a GF flour would work just as well. If you make it, let me know how it turned out 💛 ~ Anja

I often use spelt flour or Einkorn flour. But you can use any flour you have. If you like a deeper, nuttier flavor, you can even use a whole-grain flour of wheat, spelt, or Einkorn. Bonus if you mill your own grains.😊 ~ Anja

Can you use frozen fruit? Going to try it with frozen cherries. Will add tapioca starch to thicken the liquid

It was delicious with strawberries! I used a gluten free coconut flour blend and I used walnuts because that is what I had. My picky husband loved it.
