Nice GDD it helps. I changed it into notepad version. You can just copy this reply: [Game titel] [Game design document] [Type] Platforms: Price: Playtime: Age rating: [Releases] full: beta: demo: prototype: [Pitch] [Mechanics] [Unique selling points] [Story] [Objectives] [Art]

Just at the right time! My current project is growing in size, and I was preparing a git repo, but struggled at how to tackle a GDD

You're better of writing down just a quick GDD and get hands on as fast as possible, some gamedevs spend a week just on writing down their idea before realizing it's not feasible in practice. Good luck! -M

I don't know whether you see or not this comment on an old video but I noticed something and I wanted to share with you. I have watched lots of your recent videos and I don't even realise how deep actually is the Forge Industry, in a mechanic sense. I didn't see anything in your videos, you were usually saying, "if you are interested, go check it out" and it was not enough to excite me. You are making great videos and you are a passionate studio but you are definitely underselling your product. I am telling you these because I hope see much greater success on Songs Of Everjade You are coming up way more strong on your new game but as a humble suggestion, I would say that, show how deep your game actually goes. Don't undersell your work, tell the underlying mechanics, tell how they are integrated with story and all. Love your work, love to see you success!

I would put 1 more section: not about TODO, but even some NOT TODOs, do not loose focus. My example: I want to avoid dialogs in my games even it is kinda fantasy/rpg, to keep pace, keep it more arcade.

Very helpful as always! I usually dislike game dev channels but I really like yours. Most game devs I've seen on youtube don't give advice that actually provides a benefit to me, and like you've said, they feel more like youtubers than actual developers. The information you provide has been a valuable asset for me. Thank you!

Really helpful video! So one question I have is how do you criticize your game pitch? Who should I tell it/ show it to ?
@bitemegames
@bitemegames Жыл бұрын
First pitch it to other gamedevs to get the big issues resolved. Look up some gamedev meetups in your country, go there, and talk to people about your idea. There's usually one at least every month in any of the major cities. Gamedevs are always very open to helping you, and thinking about what's good or bad about your idea. -M

The section you started with seems like the last thing you should do as a creative designer. Start with design in your design document. Keep the business stuff in the business document.

I’m in the videogame industry since 2015 and I’m completely against the one pagers. The issue with the GDDs is that the current production model is that the guy who writes the expected behavior is not the same guy that makes the development. The GDD should be the core of the project, a place were gds, devs and qas VERIFY that the game and the document are the same thing, and that thing is what the team wants. I understand that your point: if no one cares about the GDD is better and faster having a one pager to ignore rather than a 60 pages outdated document made by someone many months before the beginning of the production.

When looking at indies, you often have 1-3 people at most working on a single game, in which case by your reasoning it should be alright no? As with such a small team, everyone has to be involved into the actual bringing to life of the idea? -M
@JuanSagua
@JuanSagua Жыл бұрын
@@bitemegames Yes! In a smaller team it’s even more important. Assume that you have no documentation and your 3 people team develops and launches a game that generates a monthly revenue of ~$1500. Not enough to maintain the company, but not bad for a 1st title. You should develop another game while maintaining that first one. That means hiring someone to be aware of the game, make a good enough onboarding and be as close as possible all the time, because without good documentation it would be a mess. In addition, the smaller the team the higher the risk of messing everything up if someone receives a job offer and leaves or someone just leaves for personal reason. Having a good documentation is like having a good insurance

Theres a lot to unpack in this lol So basically, you couldn't download the template so you want him to delete his video if he doesn't fix the link for you? Just because a link may not work doesn't mean the video is suddenly unhelpful, nor does it mean he owes you a new link to have his video stay up. That's quite arrogant of you honestly. You're demanding that he replace a link that didn't work for you specifically (though others mention it working for them) else he should completely delete his video for your sake, taking it away from others who may find the content helpful. And on top of that, you're demanding these things as if he owes you personally and that you own and control his channel and the videos on it. By telling him to delete a video because you aren't satisfied you're literally placing yourself in a position of power over his own channel you have no involvement with in the first place. He has no obligation to do as you say, and you have no right to demand it from him. Like seriously dude, don't be pretentious and humble yourself a bit. No one owes you anything, and you don't get to tell them what to do.
