The added plus side of filling them in the garbage can, is that anything “lost” during the filling process, stays right in the can. Less clean up and you keep all the “ excess”.

I almost wonder if adding upside-down command hooks around the edge of the trash can would be useful in holding the net in place for loading. You could just catch the edge of the net on the hooks and not have to worry about it falling into the barrel as you load it. Just a thought, love the concept.

Ive always just put the handles of the can within the hole openings and it kept it from falling in. (Prob does depend on the hole size and handle on the can).

The shires nets are awesome but I still prefer my Smartpak slowfeed hay bags. They have the gator mouth which is easy for loading, Velcro to keep the top sealed, and rings to clip to your hay net tie ring. Much more convenient than having to tie up a hay net

I just started doing a similar thing but to make it even faster and easier I use a rubberized band not the flat kind but the one sort of like cloth and it's more like a tube, and I just have it permanently on the trashcan and roll it up to keep the net in place and roll it down when I finish stuffing the hay in and there's no need to go through tying knots on top of the heavy bag once you have hay in there just hang it ..it stays shut naturally. I always keep the tips of the Haynet rope and knotted up hello I had a feeling you know just had to have it hanging on the side have it there and what can we do how how short how much how many feet shorter is it couple feet OK support smart smart absolutely if you put if you put a couple pipes across and then we could cover it up with sheets of metal in the middle they do OK see you later oh and we get to see what I need the key for the red truck shut to make it faster and simpler. Have been free feeding horses for years and years and they all put on weight in the beginning but when they saw there was always hay around they stopped overeating. Hope you find this edifying! Loved your video keep up the good work. I'm using my husbands KZbin account my name is Karla

Great tip! It was great to see those Shires haynets in real life size, I’ve been meaning to order some of them for a while for a while but struggled to find out exactly what size they are. Now I know! :)

Country Quest Portugal the shires nets are really good but the tie cord is thick and slippery and hard to get a knot to hold in place without slipping down. They work best using the shires hay net tie ring for hanging.

You can put hooks on the outside of the trash can to keep the net from slipping up and back into the can. You really need hooks with the second type of bag. The bags with the welded metal rings are much more durable.

Putting 4 small screw part way into the outside of the rim of the trash can will help with the slipping.

At my old barn we used a small muck bucket. This is such a better idea! 😊
@michelleragan63396 жыл бұрын
I would use a large muck bucket for the smaller net. I used to use hay nets. Now I use the PORTA-GRAZER, so much easier and faster to fill. I use 5 of them for 4 horses. I got so tired of filling the nets. Plus the horses were getting callasis on their nuzzles from the hay nets. I tried the softest ones I could find, still had the problem.

I have to fill 17 hay nets a day at work and honestly this would take me longer but I can see how its easier if you're just doing a few

I hand Knit my own hay nets and because of the material I use, the net stays open for you while filling for easy one handed filling, Literally takes seconds to fill a hay net of mine.

The sections of hay you're grabbing one at a time are called "books" every time the baler compresses it makes another book.

Where I live in Australia we call them biscuits. But a biscuit in the US is more like a scone to us, so wouldn't make sense.🤔
