for additional context to beginners, try and follow your first dart. throw your first dart (doesnt matter where it lands) but try and throw your 2nd and 3rd dart at the 1st and get the hang of grouping because once you are able to group adequately once you start hitting T20s first dart it will be like clockwork following it and eventually getting all 3 in.

Really good advice mate, for me I found grouping was the best and most effective technique. No matter where you throw your first dart just try to replicate the first dart with the other two. Once your find your range on the treble 20 the other 2 should be 2nd nature.

I've just started playing. I began with trying to keep the darts between 5, 20, and 1. After a couple of days practice that became the norm. I then spent 10 days just focusing on single 20 to keep me straight. On day 10 I put 12 consecutive darts into the single 20 so decided to start aiming for the treble 20. I manged to hit a 180 that same day! I'm now on day 16 and haven't hit another 180 but I've had a couple of 140's, a couple of 125's and several 100's. I also love to hit a good 26 and a good 7!!! 😂 It really does come down to practice as my 99 dart average at the moment has gone from 44 to 48 in just over a week which I'm made up with. Gutted I've only just started playing, wish I'd done it years ago. I'm quite happy to stand at the board for a couple of hours without getting bored doing different challenges. Just need to start working on finishing as my checkout % is disgusting! 😂

Id argue that a miss into T1 or T5 is worse than a miss into S20 since if you aren't throwing straight there's absolutely no chance of hitting 180. Been playing many years and concider myself to be a decent pub player, the advice I always give to new or upcoming players is stop aiming for the T20. Aim half an inch above it. Average will increase and if you miss you usually miss low so lots will drop into the T20 anyway, as you improve just move your aim down a bit until your aim point is the top wire of the T20.

Found slowing right down taking my time really helps and watch darts high lights and watching how they switch between targets

I have seen a tip if you struggle with the third dart mentally just stick in two darts in the t20 and then throw the third over and over. That way your mind gets more used to that "first two in, now don't choke" situation

I hit two 180's in the same night in a pub league when I was starting out, just a fluke night where my darts were hot. Went a good 2.5 years until my next one! But recently they have been flowing well but my scoring game is nowhere near consistent enough yet.

Could work on something like that yeah. 121 is a go to game. There’ll be some YT vids on that. Just have 20 mins a day mate to start with and see where you go. Don’t just aim at t20 tho👍🏻

Aim for bull, whatever number you hit with 1st dart go for that double with 2nd dart, then 3rd dart go for the double in the segment exactly opposite . Good switch up routine and double trainer. Doubles for dow. If you hit the bull 1st dart just keep it there.

im struggling with my throw. My stance is fine nice and squared, my arm speed feels consistent and my darts can sometimes be really accurate however my release is so weird. i hold the dart conventionally but on release i push the dart almost like a flick in slow mo giving it an anti clockwise rotation, its how i naturally threw before i knew anything about darts. does anyone else do this? tried to throw without rotation and they just dont fly true, any help would be good cheers

You do not point at the target so if your throwing for treble 20 you hand will end up pointing much lower than the treble 20 there was a video from Phil Taylor talking about pointing at the target which was widely misunderstood there is a video by Straight to the Point darts on KZbin who explains this in detail. I’ve hit around 50 180s in the last 6 weeks not one of these had me pointing at the treble 20 as a follow thru

I write left handed and throw right handed. How am I supposed to hold a dart like I hold a pen? 😂 many players do not hold their dart like a pen,the advice is throw and hold your darts how it feels natural. I feel telling people to change to an unnatural grip is not great advice….
