So I’ve taken to watching Little House on the Prairie. To see all the clothes and tea pots and everything is a treat and my family has even enjoyed watching along as my children get to see how life used to be different. Anyway, we recently watched an episode from the first season titles “school mom” and I immediately thought of you because Ma Ingalls is seen using an orange shawl and in studying it you can see it has the construction you showed in the video. Lots of fringe as well and she crosses it in front of her body and around the back. It was a treat to see such an obvious knit item. ❤️❤️❤️ made me want to recreate it hence why I looked for your video on it. LOVE that you explained how to get a longer wingspan faster ❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you thank you. I need to catch up on your most recent videos too. ❤️

I don't remember many hand knit items from Little House... but then again I haven't watched it in awhile - now that I knit I think knitted things really jump out at me in movies and tv! 😁

@@NerdyKnitting yeah I haven’t watched through the series yet. Still in season one. And my husband wants to not watch any episode where something bad happens to a baby which unfortunately there are at least three instances. So we will be skipping episodes there. And agreed, stuff jumps out at me whether it’s a knit or crochet item and automatically it’s like hmm I should make that lol. The show Call the Midwife was always fun for that. (Love the time frame) Shows from the UK are great for all that stuff. But yes, that was the first hand knit I had seen so I definitely took notice. And what’s more, the shawl was a vibrant orange. I absolutely love your shawl videos and explanations on shaping. It really helps with understanding the creations which allows us to come up with our own rather than being restricted to a pattern ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you

Love your tutorials!!! I need to make a shawl for a size 3or 4 plus size woman. She wants it to go around her with a longer wing span. Can I start with the shallow, then change to wider wing span ?
@NerdyKnitting2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you could do that or just start working for a longer wingspan right away (something like a double increase at each edge on right side rows or a single increase at each edge on every row).

Just learning and at the end of the shawl. What do you do to finish off the last couple rows to finish up nicely?
@NerdyKnitting Жыл бұрын
If it's Stockinette stitch I might add an edge pattern like Garter or seed stitch. Otherwise I'd just bind off!

Hi, I'm a beggining knitter, and I'm wondering how to set up the shawl if I want to have a nice clean edge, do I need to start with more stiches at the beginning, or should I move the increases more towards the center of the shawl? Thanks for the helpful tutorial btw ^^
@NerdyKnitting7 ай бұрын
You can move the increases in a few stitches if you want an edge on each side.

First off love the videos! I'm playing around with making my own simple shawl and you explanations of deep and shallow is awesome! So my cheeky question for you is, to get something in between the two types would I just do a single increase at the beginning of each row? Lastly I have a hankering for some fringe. I've never made a shawl with fringe before. Do you think the weight of it would keep stockinette from curling? Thanks! Cheers
@NerdyKnitting2 жыл бұрын
Working a single increase at the beginning of every row would be the same as increasing at both edges on the RS row. Instead, you could increase at both edges on every OTHER RS row - that would make a shallower triangle with a longer wingspan. I'm not sure about how fringe would affect Stockinette - I'm leaning towards yes, though. It would certainly help (depending on how 'fringey' you go! 😁 ).

Too fast couldn't see how you knit. So I tried anyway and stead of a triangle I got a arch shape.

@NerdyKnitting4 ай бұрын
Just bind off all the stitches.

Sorry it wasn't helpful. There is a free pattern you can download - perhaps that would help.

Going to fast for beginners and can't see half of what your knitting. Also need to start knitting from beginning instead of halfway through from your starting.
