The hardest thing about NMM for a newb like me is that I don't have that feeling of how to portray light reflecting off metallic surfaces. I just can't visualize it in my head. Videos like this really help. Thank you!
@alexGonzalez-rf5pb3 ай бұрын
if this helps, I remember seeing a tip where you use glossy black paint (Or Primer) on the mini and point a light source where you want it from. Wherever you see the light reflecting is where your focal points should be. Hope this helps!
@JEndymion3 ай бұрын
NMM only makes sense for display pieces. If you are painting an army and moving them around the battle field then the portrayal of light doesn’t look right. Save yourself time and just do TMM for your armies.
@Nozz_9593 ай бұрын
Another eassssy way is to just video your model while primed and hold the light at a few directions. Play the video back and find the highlight angle you like the most and pause it 🎉

Nice process. One of the best I am seen for an easy break down and the theory how to do NMM. You and Lucas are kings for simplifying theory and application, without tricks or endless products! One that would be cool that I rarely see on KZbin is to take this and add some sub surface scatter lighting. Let’s gets us all to competition painters haha

@reosir13 ай бұрын
If u are kind new on this tecnique this Is my personal suggestion after many trial...dont focus on where the light are going to correctly place just focus more on smooth the color right...then with practice u naturally start seeing where the light should go...or at least that worked for me :)
@tilo88123 ай бұрын
@@reosir1yeah get your Point for Sure but i often Paint really rough NMM and think the right Placements and the right colors already selling the effect
@reosir13 ай бұрын
@@tilo8812 if It match for you It means that u have done a good job cause keep in mind that in the end It a matter of how mutch time did u wanna spend on smooth the effect, unless u want to win a Golden demon i think that's if u like what u see its ok, otherwise try to question the light that u place moving it to another angle and see what suit the best...if u have same copy in same pose of minis( that's quite easy to have) try to change the secondary reflex or mabie some angle and see what's the bether ... My advice if u love the tecnique, thing that i personally do, never gonna give u up[cit.] and go on painting :)
@reosir13 ай бұрын
Uh and more important all of that its only my opinion ofc, this video Is really amazing and teach a really good tecnique that im going to try for sure but for example i personally use a different recipe for nmm Gold like i mix ak tenebrous Gray with ak Sahara Yellow covering 80%/90% of black than use Sahara Yellow covering 90% of previous step, then 1:1 Sahara Yellow with Ice Yellow on 90% of previous step and then a little bit of pure White for extra brightness only Just on max reflex point...the contrast with the black for me its more of impact than the Brown but this Is only a matter of personal taste

Hi Emil and Lukas, great tutorial! Why do you prefer now parasite brown instead of scrufolous brown? Is it the colour tone or the coverage?
@squidlybits19853 ай бұрын
Scrofulous brown is much more on the yellow side, and lacks a little bit of that transition between the darkest to the midtone. Parasite brown does it all with one coat. So while we used to love scrofulous brown as one of the colors to use in the mix, after our extensive testing the past two years to find the ultimate colors, we got a much better result from parasite brown!

@squidlybits198527 күн бұрын
@@obi-wankenobi3477 for the gold, it's really difficult to get this tone without sun yellow and parasite brown. You've got colors that get about 70% of the way, but for the gold I wouldn't compromise. The brown you can use rhinox hide though. I can't remember the closest color to sun yellow. Maybe dorn yellow?
