@@dirtypatwalsh Thanks man I’m excited to get off work and try it out. I have been on a world tour trying out a lot of different brands and keys. I play a lot bends and overblows naturally because I play jazz music. I have been pleased with the playability of kongshengs out of the box so I’m sure this will be a good experience. I really like low tunings like the lee Oskars. I wish there would be a Chinese company providing these super low tunings. Cheers :)

This is a great harmonica. It is a quality built harp, feels good in the hand and mouth. I’ve got one and plan to get some other keys. I believe I paid less than $25.00 for the one I picked up.

Thanks for watching man! Yes indeed it’s a fantastic harp…pretty much all I’ve been using for the past year for playing live. One of my pals here named The Hermit gave it the title of the “rude toned Marine Band” which I think is quite fitting 💯😎👍. And yeah the price beats anything out there.

@@dirtypatwalsh I only have it in an A right now but I really do like it. I’ve got a set of Special 20’s and like them but have been trying sone other manufacturers to see what they are like. The Mars by Kongsheng seems like a decent harp too. The round holes are different but they don’t bother me at all.

@@dirtypatwalsh they are well built too and do have a good sound. I’ve got one of each - Mars, Amazing 20, Solist (aluminum comb) and a TinG. Good quality harps for a a reasonable price - from China? Who would have thought? They are very good at replicating/stealing other companies technologies. I really don’t like buying from them for that reason but I wanted to check out some different models and it’s fairly easy to do when they are so much cheaper.

@markieproductions22 absolutely! It pained me to learn I can no longer afford Marine Band harps but yeah these harps from Japan and China are really offering great instruments at a fraction of the cost. I prefer to buy Hohners but, hey…$35 as opposed to $135 for an instrument I like just as much…well, 😂. I’m gonna have to try a Kongsheng when I’m able😎👍

Yeah…grittier sound as well! I really dig these as I can’t afford Marine Band harps anymore. I’ve been playing the 005 blues models as well and they sound fantastic. I have also been playing the Easttop $10 “Ten Holes” harps as Easttop makes a very playable ten dollar harp. I’m impressed by the Easttop products.

I've got a couple of those harps, and they're OK, but they're no match for Marine Band. I was waiting for Dirty Pat to show me something amazing on that thing, but alas...only noodling. Let her rip, Dirty!

Hey! Thanks for your comment! I agree…I’m a lifelong Marine Band player for thé last 40 years but I’m on a small fixed income and can’t afford $125 for a new harp. Hohner harps cost that now in Canada, but these are great for the money. I will always prefer Marine Band harps tho. I’m no amazing player…I’ve had a great career in music playing harmonica but I’m no whiz kid. I can play but I don’t claim to be anything special. If you want to see my live show I have lots of recent performance videos up where you can see more of what I do solo or with my current hillbilly band 😀. I certainly appreciate your encouragement! I know right? Where’s Paul 🤨lol You haven’t played Easttop cos you live in the motherland of harmonicas Patrik! But I gotta say…I love this harp…it’s by a country mile better than any Chinese diatonic I’ve ever played. Nice and greasy…the Hermit called the tone “rude” which I agree with 100%

They make remarkably good harps from my experience so far (aside from the Brendan Power tunings…power draw and power bender, which are still well made harmonicas, I just can’t figure out how to use them practically lol). They are really inexpensive. I want to get more of these in different keys if I’m ever in a place where I can afford a new set of harps lol. I prefer this to any of my Seydel harps…Marine Band is always my brand but yeah…this is a pretty spicy little tin sandwich!

Yes that Easttop has a different accent voice to your marine bands, both equal just different. Its hard to define in words the subtle difference in tone in technical words so i use 'rude tone' it just sounds more loose and raspberry, more ghetto and gonzo. saloon tone. more drunk, more wet. The marine bands have a certain old world spiritual traditional reverend tone .respectable sincerity and never profane. maybe closer to the heart, more dry. Like the difference between spruce and mahogany topped guitars. Of those special power harps I agree and think its like how some guitar tunings for what they give in one way, take away so much that would normally fall so easy under the fingers to be an impediment more than an assistance. Analysis is for before and after playing, but if you still have to think about what you play with them when playing then thought gets in the way of flow. Good tunings put the notes in such a way where the right ones fall under you fingers or out of your mouth naturally and instinctively without barriers to your intentions. I wish i could find it but i heard once an old blues night jam of various old blues players taking turns to play a slow blues song on guitar and sometimes messing up right. Then the host of the event came on the microphone and said "some of our entertainers are feeling pissed off because they have been fucking up tonight, so please give them a round of applause to make them feel better" LOL
@dirtypatwalsh
@dirtypatwalsh Жыл бұрын
Lol that’s an awesome story Hermit! Yeah I fully agree on the special tuned harps. Too much thought involved in playing, at least for me. I’m sure some folks think that the Power tunings are awesome. And yeah, the more I play this harp, the greasier it feels. If I could buy these at my local shop I’d love that. I’ll have to talk to the owner. My main guitar is plywood but I do have an old cedar top dreadnought I don’t play much anymore but the cedar top is why I bought it as opposed to spruce…the sound is darker and not as bright. I understand that the cover plates of these are made of copper, which is kinda cool and likely adds to the rude tone. One of my guitar slides is a bit of copper pipe and it’s rude as it gets lol. Thanks Hermit!

@@dirtypatwalsh Greasy is a good term for it yeah. My main guitar is a little body Martin LXK2 high pressure laminate sides back and top and stratabond ply neck. Once i got going with it I gave my yamaha cedar or mahogany Dreadnaught away to a charity shop because i knew it was redundant. I still got my cheap laminate but solid top classical guitar but i seldom use it much as the string tension is too light for my heavy handling. Laminate has an under appreciated tone in the acoustic world but is its own tone wood that steps out of old traditions and sounds more appropriate for contemporary acoustic punk and hobo tramp tone. A skateboard with strings.
@dirtypatwalsh
@dirtypatwalsh Жыл бұрын
Totally ! I love the sound of old trashy plywood guitars. I think I keep my old cedar top cos it’s on all my albums with acoustic guitar on them. I’ve played tons of gigs and busked with it for years. It’s pretty smashed up around the sound hole from my more aggressive days as a busker. Lots of sentimental value, plus I’ve not changed the strings on it for like 20-25 years, save the odd high E. I liked to use silk and steel strings on it and still would if I ever change them out lol

@@dirtypatwalsh Laminate is the sound of all the guitars my friends ever had leaning on the wall at their houses, the tone of laminate takes me to those drink all night sofa parties of talking and playing without a care.
