Good video as always Darryl got to love all of the pings. I just started propagating pings as one can never have too many.

KZbin out here working for you. I was watching a different video and they decided to show me this one. Interesting ping mix thats for sure. I dont do the sphagnum at the bottom but I may try it and see what results I get. Great video and thanks for sharing.

Hi Darryl, I'm new to pings, but already love them! I live in the Netherlands and have a different climate to yours (I think). The bottom part of your pot is sphagnum moss. Is there a special reason for that? I have two pings which I top water. Is sphagnum moss better for bottom watering? I want to re-pot them. Everybody seems to have a different approach. Love the channel!

Thank you so much from watching in Netherlands. Glad you came across my channel. For the sphagnum moss, the reason why I use it to layer the bottom of my pots so the water sitting in your tray does not keep the top soil substrate from being very wet. Sphagnum moss retains the water then seeps up to the soil substrate keeping it moist and not wet. Hope that helps.
@ClausCarnivores2 жыл бұрын
nice instructions, did you use dead sphagnum or always/sometimes living moss too?
@mypingtopia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Claus, primarily use dead sphagnum because its just used to hold the sitting water at the bottom of the tray.

@@mypingtopia thanks,I should try that too :)

hi, maxsea and schultz are not sold at my countries and individual can not import them, so i was wondering can i replace them with fertilizer 16-10-12 or 18-18-18+2(MgO) , which one would you recommend, thanks.
@mypingtopia Жыл бұрын
I don't have experience with the fertilizers you list. Sorry, I don't have a recommendation for you.

My greenhouse just started carrying these and they only keep them in water and moss. What are the advantages either way?
@mypingtopia Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Appreciate it. I grow Mexican pinguiculas that like the soil moist not wet. If you grow in just sphagnum moss it may be too wet if you have too much water. That’s why you see a top layer of soil I have for my pings. Advantage you can set the pings in a tray of water and forget about them until the tray dries out then refill. Easy to take care of.

Great video Darryl. Do you pings go into a succulent state during winter in your conditions?
@mypingtopia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping on by. Yes, some pings do. Right now, esseriana, cyclosecta, debratina, tangerine from cal carnivores, aphrodite are in their succulent phase, but one of my laueana is growing crazy splitting into three.

@@mypingtopia Do you water the same in winter and summer ? I expect you office temperature is stable all year.
@mypingtopia2 жыл бұрын
@@petersebborn306 yes, I've been watering pretty consistently throughout the year. Though, I plan to move some of the pings that are dormant into another tray that I will get less water to. Let them dry out a bit more until next year.

I'm new to Pinguicula. Mine arrived today sort of very wet and in bad shape any tips to try and rehab them?
@mypingtopia6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. When I get pings in bad shape, I try to remove the wetness as much as possible. You can mat with a paper towel. Then would pot up like I show in my video with sphagnum moss bottom of pot, the a soil mix of pumice, vermiculite and peat moss. Then put under led lights. If you don’t have led, then a nice bright windowsill. Need that light to help ping bounce back. This is a slow process, but hopefully you’ll see improvement over two weeks. If that is not the case, then your ping may not be salvaged. Best of luck 🤞🏼.

Thought I’d point out because I bought the same stuff that your peat moss says admix which means it has added fertilizer I’m pretty sure. I bought the exact same stuff and nothing liked it and it took me months to notice that it had additives the same brand has a additive free mix with a red label
@mypingtopia Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and letting me know about the fertilizer additive. I really thought I read through the ingredients. Now, I’m going to yeet it after I re-read the fine print.

Can you use pon? New subscriber. 😊
@mypingtopia2 күн бұрын
Thanks for subscribing. Yes, you can use pon. However, it’s the cost of the substrate you would have to be good with. I have a lot of pings so it’s not an option for me.

But for mexicans it is to much peat Mose? Is there a soil tutorial for mexicans?
@mypingtopia Жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by. This is my tutorial for Mexican Pinguiculas. I don’t have any other type. Keep in mind the sphagnum moss below the soil keeps the soil from getting too wet.

@@mypingtopia I was thinking they help making soil more wet, I will try it thanks
