That narrow road up from the dam workers cottages just after the Yorkshire Bridge Inn was one of my Dad's favourites back in the 1960's. He used to have a name for the area after the two cattle grids but it escapes me now, 60 years later. When we were kids we used to go in the car (the car park on the right just after the first cattle grid) and when we were a bit older we would all go on our pushbikes from Sheffield. We lived at the Sheffield end of Ringinglow Road. Later still in the late 60's/early 70's I would go the same route with my mates on our motorbikes. That Fiddlers Elbow (Ringinglow Road) route down to Hathersage and the Millstone was our preferred route from Sheffield via Burbage Bridge although the Foxhouse / Toads Mouth route was favoured if we intended to visit Longshaw or Grindleford / The Maynard or, more usually, wanted to test our motorbikes on the "Flying Mile" which was actually Stony Ridge Road, dead straight and a mile long, and cuts off the corner east of the Fox House pub. I think that, historically, "the surprise" is actually when you are coming from the Fox House direction and you turn the righthand corner after the Toad's Mouth and the vista right across the National Park to Kinder Scout first opens up before you. Thanks for the happy memories. 😊 Richard

What fabulous views! We’ve only fairly recently discovered the Peak District and coming from Yorkshire, I didn’t think anything could rival ‘our’ scenery but……

I think most bikers ride past it heading for snake pass. Never saw one bike on the whole road.

It seems to get busier and busier around the Sheffield side of the peak district, cars parked all over on roads that are already very narrow.

Nothing wrong with Sheffield, just don't want to ride around it! My uncle used to play for Sheffield United. (Sorry if you're a Wednesday fan!)

One of our favourite roads on our Cub journeys. Don't tell too many people about it though and there's a toilet half way round for the elderly! We usually combine this one with a run over to Yonderman via the Barrel Inn road and then on to Longstone Edge which gets my vote for a very close "Best road in the Peak District". Thank you for your excellent videos - keep then coming. Hopefully bump into you one day on our trips out.

There’s some fantastic lanes going off in all directions North of Hathersage. As a lifelong Chesterfield resident myself, for years I though of Sheffield as being an urban sprawl but the areas round Strines and Low Bradfield also have some interesting country lanes and several reservoirs

Just back in from a late afternoon ride , What a ride over Yorkshire Bridge , Bradfield via Cudworth Road ? Ice Creamby the cricket pitch back to Mortimer Road then New Rd to Ringinglow, Hathersage ,Froggat Bridge , Curbar Gap and home in Chesterfield, feel blessed to live so close to such countryside 🤟
